Kris looked at Louis, who looked at the ring. He looked pleased in a way, and also...was he crying? Kristian was worried, didn't know what to make of it, but he just held his breath and waited for his friend to speak. When he did, it was just two little words, but they made him smile and nod a little.
"Yeah. I passed this shop and they had all kind of friendship rings, and...see the engraving?" There was a little engraving in what the Shopkeeper had told him was Elvish, after the Lord of the Rings movies. Kristian loved those movies and hadn't been able to resist. "It says: One ring to find a friend, and forever entwine their lives. So I thought of you and how I kinda always...want you in my life?" He blushed again slightly.

Louis looked at the ring again, wiping his tears away with the back of his hand. Lord of the Rings was his very favourite novel, a treasured tenth birthday gift from his Auntie Hermione. He had lost count of the number of times he'd read it over the years, he'd even named his bunny rabbit Frodo after the hobbit who carried the one ring.
Of course even if he hadn't have loved the series so much, the gift would still have been special. The words of the engraving was simply beautiful. Louis couldn't help but wonder how much it had cost though. He knew Kris wasn't exactly rich, and he worried a little about what the other boy had given up to buy this for him.
"Thank you so much, Kristian." He said softly, putting all the feeling of his heart into the words. "I wish I had something to give you in return though." He leant forwards and kissed the other boy gently on the cheek, a blush coming to his own skin as he did so.

It hadn't cost him too much, then again when it came to Louis Weasley, nothing was ever too much. He had worked two extra nights to save up the money to buy him a friendship ring. "It's okay. I'll just be happy when I see you wearing it." Kristian blushed a little as well when Louis leaned in to kiss his cheek.
Instead of responding to it, he simply pressed the button on the remote, starting the movie. Pulling his legs to his chest, he took up a pillow to wrap his arms around, making himself comfortable on the couch. He was genuinely happy that Louis liked his present. It had taken him a while to find the perfect gift, and when he saw the ring that reminded him of Lord of the Rings, he hadn't been able to resist.

Louis kept glancing down at the ring on his finger the whole way through the movie, moving his hand so it caught the light from the screen. He wanted to do something for Kris, something that would make him feel as good inside as the gift had made him feel. The problem was he just didn't know how. He would ask Dominique about it later, she always gave him good advice.
He settled back and tried to concentrate on the movie, though it was hard when he felt so sleepy. He shifted in his seat and laid his head against Kris's shoulder, watching the screen through half shut eyes. It felt good to rest his head there, safe. The thought that he would sleep much better at night if Kris could sleep next to him crossed his mind. It made him blush, though he didn't know why.
On screen, the hero of the story swept the heroine into a romantic kiss. For some reason, Louis couldn't help but imagine what it would feel like to be kissed like that. What it would feel like if Kris kissed him like that. Shame filled him, Kris was his friend, he shouldn't have been thinking of him that way! His cheeks burning, he sat up, covering his face with his hands.

It felt nice to have Louis so close, Kris noticed as the younger teen put his head onto his shoulder. It made a nice, warm, fuzzy feeling spread through his stomach and it even put a smile on his slightly surprised face. He wondered if he was allowed to hug the blonde to him and decided not to, focusing his attention on the screen instead.
He watched Hugh Grant kiss Drew Barrymore and smiled. He liked happy scenes and could only imagine what it would be like to kiss someone. He had had lips pressed against his mouth by his boss, but that couldn't possibly be all of it, for how could something so insignificant inspire songs and such happiness in people?
Tilting his head slightly, he looked at Louis and the way the younger boy suddenly blushed a little. Kristian thought on this for a moment. Perhaps Louis had kissed someone? Maybe he would know the answer then. "Have you...Did you...ever...?"

Louis blinked at the question, peeking out through his fingers at Kris. At first he didn't understand what he meant, then it hit him and he blushed a darker shade of red. "Have I ever k-kissed anyone?" He asked, stuttering over the word. He wondered who Kris thought he could have kissed, after all it wasn't as if people were lining up to fall in love with him. He shook his head quickly.
"No. I haven't." He moved his hands away from his face, twisting his ring around nervously. Why had Kris asked him? The other boy was older, and much smarter than Louis was. He was sure he must have kissed lots of people. Though now he came to wonder about it, in all the years he'd known Kris he'd never seen him have a girlfriend. Or a boyfriend for that matter.
After a moments hesitation he managed to ask. "H-have... Have you?" He looked away after he said it, embarrassment making it impossible to look Kris in the eye. He hoped the other boy wouldn't think he was rude, but then he had brought the subject up.

For some reason, Kris was both surprised and slightly relieved at the answer. He didn't know why it had mattered so much, why he had felt like he couldn't breathe and like something was about to explode inside of him, but he knew that if the answer had been any different, he would have been upset. Which was ridiculous and quite honestly, a little scary.
He flushed when Louis asked the same question to him, almost feeling the urge to hide his face in the pillow he was currently clinging to. What would his friend say if he admitted he had never been kissed? He was older, his birthday was in a few days, wasn't it rather pathetic for a near seventeen-year-old to never have kissed anyone?
And then his brain went and told him that technically he had, if you counted the harsh and intoxicated kisses his boss sometimes gave him. It made him hesitate for a moment, but Kristian shook his head. "No" As an after thought, he added: "People aren't exactly lining up to be around me, let alone kiss me." And he had never found someone he wanted to kiss.
...Except for his best friend.

Louis wasn't exactly sure what to say in reply, so he kept quiet, ducking his head and hugging himself protectively. Suddenly he didn't feel so secure anymore. His face felt hot and his stomach was full of millions of wiggling worms. He looked up at Kris from under his long lashes, then looked away again quickly.
He'd always thought Kris was rather handsome, but for some reason he'd never noticed before just how intense his green eyes were. He wanted Kris to kiss him he realised, wanted it so so badly. He felt sure that if he did then all this confusion and these strange feelings would go away. Then things would be normal again.
He stepped closer to his friend, soft lips parting as he tried to think how he could ask. His heart was beating loudly in his ears, drowning out the sound still coming from the theatre screen. "D-do you want to kiss me, Kris?" He heard himself ask, his voice seeming to come from very far away.

Kris had been vaguely thinking about how it would be to kiss Louis, whether or not it'd be any different to the kisses given to him by his boss. He figured it would be, since the Hufflepuff was his friend and he'd be kind. He'd be sweet and wouldn't force it on him. It would be left at that, wouldn't it? Or was there something more to it?
He felt a little queasy in his stomach when Louis looked at him, lips slightly parted. His eyes focused on them for a moment, before he looked away again and blushed. He was nervous, for some odd reason. And that was before the other had even asked THE question.
"D-do you want to kiss me, Kris?"
Kristian forgot to breathe for a moment. His heart went on this wild rhythm which was unlike anything he'd ever felt before. Warmth spread through his body like wildfire and he wondered if he was getting ill or if this was normal. It wasn't unpleasant like being sick was. Furrowing his brow, he contemplated whether Louis had meant it as a question or an invitation. "I..." It was hard for him to make a decision on this, so he ducked his head and mumbled. "I...I would if you would."

Louis nodded a little at Kris's words, feeling his cheeks burning as he did. It wasn't logical, but he needed Kris to kiss him. He needed it like he needed to sleep when he was tired, or needed to drink when he was thirsty. "I need you to." He said softly, looking up into Kris's green eyes once more. "Please?"
After he'd said it he found he couldn't look at his friend any longer. So he shut his eyes and waited. That was people did in the movies, wasn't it? Shut their eyes? But maybe Kris didn't want to kiss him at all, maybe he would just be sitting here with his eyes shut looking like an idiot. He opened his eyes a tiny bit, peeking at Kris through his lashes and trying to figure out what the other boy was feeling.
