Kris wandered into the Room of Requirement like he did regularly on nights he didn't have to work. It was a place he had discovered just a few hours after working his first night at the club. He had been pacing up and down the hallway, crying and wishing there was a place he could go to rest for the night, without his classmates immediately knowing something was up.
Then this room had appeared, though it was different now than it had been that night. Before it had looked like his bedroom back home. A soft bed that he could fall onto and his favorite childhood toy to bury his face into. Now it was looking rather like an intimate muggle cinema, with a drinks and snacks machine in the corner and a big screen. There were red plushy seats that he sank into gratefully, waiting for his companion.
He had been meeting up with Louis regularly, watching movies and just enjoying each others company. There was something about this room that always made him feel comfortable. There was something about Louis that always made him feel comfortable. Even though, with the new year, he had realized that Louis was aging. He was no longer the little kid he had grown used to, the small boy that seemed so innocent and accepted him for who he was.

It was almost eight o'clock and the outside side was rapidly darkening. Louis Weasley hurried along the seventh floor corridor towards the Room of Requirement, his footsteps echoing in the empty corridor. Darkness made him nervous, even when it was outside and mostly kept at bay by the torches that lined the walls inside Hogwarts Castle. It was September and the days were gradually getting shorter, the night closing in on the day. It also meant it would be cold soon, and already there was an icy nip in the air.
Still spending some time alone with his best friend was worth being out and around this late. Louis had never experience the things muggles called 'films' until he had met Kris, and he loved the time they spent together watching them. The truth was though he would probably have been happy doing just about anything with Kris. The other boy had a way of putting him at ease, and he had missed him badly all through the summer holidays.
He reached the blank space of wall opposite an enormous tapestry depicting Barnabas the Barmy attempting to train trolls for the ballet, and quickly walked past three times, concentrating hard on what he needed the room to become. On his third time a door popped out of existence in the wall and he opened it and stepped inside.

Kris had spent the summer near Hogwarts, after convincing his mom that he really couldn't give up his job. She had ruffled his hair and told him she was proud of her honest, hard-working son. Said son had only mumbled and turned away. It wasn't like he really had a choice here. If he didn't work during holidays he would lose his job, and he really couldn't do that. He needed the money, not just for his mom, but for his books and other Hogwarts supplies.
...And for a little silver something that was in his pocket right now. Some might say it's ridiculous to buy your best friend a ring, and perhaps Kris was in some alternate universe right now, because he wasn't shy or uncomfortable about it in the slightest. It just made sense to give Louis something that would make him smile. Something that made the Hufflepuff happy and feel special.
Because he was special. Very special. So special that Kris could never find the words to tell him. So special that he fidgeted in his seat the moment the door opened because he was afraid that he would somehow manage to ruin things between him and the one person he could always trust to stick by him. But it didn't stop him from looking up and smiling, a soft "Hey" escaping from slightly parted lips.

Louis smiled when he saw that his friend was already there waiting for him. "Hey." He replied, pushing a few strands of his silvery blond hair out of his eyes so he could see Kris properly. "Am I late?" There was a little guilt in his tone as he asked the question. He had a habit of forgetting things, like what time he was supposed to arrive at places. It did seem like Kris had been there a while.
He shut the door behind him and walked over to Kris, taking a seat beside him. His companion didn't seem cross with him, so he supposed he couldn't have been that late. Of course, he has a hard time imagining Kris being cross with anyone. He just wasn't that sort of person, and that was another reason why Louis liked him. Volatile people always alarmed him.
"What are we going to watch?" He asked, nodding to the dark screen in front of them. He always let Kris choose, since he had no idea about muggle films. He always liked the ones about swords and sorcery though, even if muggles had a pretty funny idea of what magic was. Romances also appealed to him, since he truly was a romantic at heart. Of course he was convinced he would spend his life watching other peoples romances... no one would ever see him as special in that way.

Louis wasn't really late, it was more that Kris had been...early? He liked being there on time, familiarizing himself with the room even though it was always the same. It made him feel happy to be on his own for a while. But it was even better when Louis was around, because Louis liked watching stupid Muggle movies with him. He liked being in a room and not having to fill every second with meaningless chatter.
"I was thinking we watch Music and Lyrics?" He was a fan of Drew Barrymore, ever since he'd watched her on ET. She had something cooky and strange about her that he could relate to, and he loved watching most of her movies. Hugh Grant wasn't bad to look at either, though he was definitely aging lately.

Louis hadn't heard of the film Kris mentioned, but then he never had heard of any of them. Still Kris had good taste. He smiled, sitting cross-legged in his chair and nodding. "Sure that sounds fine to me. What's it about?" He asked.
He was kind of hungry, since he'd skipped dinner to catch up on the homeworks he had due. Otherwise he wouldn't have been able to meet with Kris at all. He couldn't stand the thought of any more of his teachers being angry with him, it had only been a week since term had started and already he was in trouble.
He would have to get his head out of the clouds and try much harder if he didn't want to disappoint his parents. He knew he could do better in some of his subjects that he was currently doing, and he hated doing less than his best work.

Kris smiled as he settled down next to him, handing him a chocolate chip muffin. He loved food, loved bringing his friend little treats and snacks for the movie. Watching a Muggle movie wasn't complete without popcorn or drinks. Besides, all the calories that he inhaled would be gone by just dancing onstage and dodging hands in the club afterwards. "It's about this pop star from the eighties. He's writing a song for this new it-girl, Cora Corman."
He still had the ring in his pocket, and twirled it around his finger. It wouldn't do just to thrust it at him, but he didn't want to make too big a deal of it either. "I...got you something." Kris blushed slightly, ducking his head a little. "It's not something big, or anything, but I saw it and well...Yea."

Louis was lost in his worries about his school work, but when Kris handed him the muffin he blinked and looked at him. "Thank you." He said with a smile. Usually he preferred healthy food, but Grandma Molly always said there was nothing wrong with a treat now and then.
"I...got you something. It's not something big, or anything, but I saw it and well...Yea."
"You got me something?" Louis repeated, a little blankly. "Oh but, it's not my birthday for another month." Normally surprises made him nervous, but not where Kris was concerned. Still he wondered if today was special for some reason and if he'd been supposed to buy Kris a present too.
"What is it?" The Hufflepuff couldn't help but be curious. Kris has never given him a present before, outside of the usual birthday and Christmas presents. And could the older boy be blushing?

Kristian wondered about the slightly far-away look and the thought wrinkles on Louis's forehead, thinking that maybe there was something the other wasn't telling him. Louis knew that Kris would always be there, right? Or well, he would after this. "It's not, but well, I kinda missed you this summer and..." They had written to each other, like they always had, so owls had been flying to and from Kris's house pretty much every day.
"I thought that maybe you'd like something to remind you of me, when I'm not around?" Wow, this sounded a whole lot more serious than he'd intended. Kristian bit his lip again, a nervous habit, before he took the ring out of his pocket and held up his hand, palm up and the ring shining in the soft light.

"It's not, but well, I kinda missed you this summer and... I thought that maybe you'd like something to remind you of me, when I'm not around?"
Louis opened his mouth to say that he had missed Kris too and that he always thought of the Ravenclaw when he was not around. It was turn, no matter where he was Kris was never far from his thoughts. Then Kris held up his hand and Louis found he didn't know what to say anymore. There was a small silver ring glimmering in the center of his palm, and Louis felt his heart skip a beat.
"For me?" Was all he managed to say even though it was pretty obvious that it was. He felt tears well up in his eyes and did his best to blink them back. He was always crying it seemed, and he was sure people found it annoying. But these were happy tears. The gift touched him in a way he didn't understand, and while this new feeling for strange, and just a little scary, he couldn't help but feel that it was good.
