Christmas his year was going to suck. Instead of spending it at home with her family and opening presents by the log fire in the morning followed by a Christmas dinner fit for a king. Crap Christmas television in the evening and a trip to her uncle’s house for a party to finish the night. This year Amelia Pace wasn’t going to have that. Oh no. She got to spend the holiday in the school, all because of her canine affliction.
It wasn’t the first time she’d had to do it in the last four years, but that still didn’t make it better. It was bad enough that she was god knows how many miles from home most of the year, but to spend the special holidays that far away from them as well? That really sucked.
What made today worse than the rest was the full moon factor that the night brought with it. Pain, discomfort and a nigh in a lovely cell in the corner of Adrian Connery’s office. There was one upside and that was Connery. He always tried his best to make her feel better about it all. Especially after Dacian had attacked her. There was no ‘I told you to be careful’, or ‘don’t do it again’ she was free to learn from her mistakes on her own accord. He always tried to make her comfortable, and they had their jokes. Hell, half the school believed that they were busy doing questionable things once a month. That was Connery’s fault, being shirtless and at the door.
Amelia had spent her day mooching around. She’d woken up eaten far too much toast for breakfast before reading her book by the fire in the common room. Which she had done for an hour before she started to feel decidedly hungry again. Bordom eating was probably not a good idea but what else did she have to go? Slamming her book down on the coffee table in front of her she took off in a fast walk down towards the cellars and the kitchens.
You didn’t spend seven years in one place and never learn how to get into the kitchens.
Running her finger delicately over the pear, the tapestry opened. A flurry of house-elves looking in her direction before bursting into life. A small house elf came up to her with a tray full of chocolate crispy cakes which she gladly accepted. Others gave her bread and chocolate frogs and other Christmas treats. After five minus of this and a sash of food to last her until at least next Christmas she left and headed back up for the common room.
Sunset was coming around quickly, winter months had I ever so slightly harder to hide the wolf. Disappearing quicker from meals to cage herself in an office for the night. No wonder people were talking, but to tell them the truth would ruin everything.
Slouching down the first floor corridor, Amelia sighed to herself. Checking the dirt under her nails for lack of anything else to do. Ignoring formality with the last of people around, once she reached Connery’s office door she knocked lightly before pushing the door open.
She saw him sat at his desk, sketching something or other. Her usual vial of god-awful liquid sitting on his desk. ”We really should stop meeting like this,” she said, for the sake of any other students that made have been in the vicinity to hear her. Walking towards his desk she flopped stressfully down into the chair in from of his desk grabbing the potion of her way down , ”Oh the bane of my existence,” she smiled at the bottle, opening it and swallowing it all down in one, the gross taste causing her to distort her face in disgust.
”How’s you holiday, Adi? ‘Cause quite frankly, mine sucks,” she complained passing the vial between her fingers and hands.

Adrian Connery sat idly at his desk trying in vain to forget it was almost Christmas. When he was younger Christmas meant his family getting together around their small fireplace on Christmas eve to chatter excitedly about the next day. He would be there beside his mother’s lap, whispering all about Santa and presents to his younger brother. Adrian’s father would laugh, knowing full well his son didn’t believe in Father Christmas anymore and that he was just keeping it up for Rickie’s sake.
With a sigh the man knew those days were long gone. Both parents were dead and the brothers would have nothing to do with each other. To distract himself, Adrian picked up a pencil and began to sketch Aussie, his owl. The Australian barn owl, sensing what the man was doing, fluffed up his feathers and tried to look as proud as possible.
For a long time the drawing worked, it wasn’t until the light in the office started to fade that Adrian looked up. The moon was just becoming visible through the window. It was that moon that was keeping Amelia Pace here over the holidays. As if on cue, the girl knocked at his door and let herself in. “Evening,” was all he could reply to her, chucking slightly. The disproval of the potion was nothing new and all the man did was laugh. “You know you love it,” he snerked.
For a moment, the drawing lay forgotten as Adrian lifted himself up from his chair to get something from a cupboard behind Ame. As he reached past her he couldn’t help but look at her, their eyes meeting for a brief second, and he smiled. He’d almost forgotten she’d been attacked by Dacian and wondered how her hands were healing. Slowly he took the bitten one to investigate the bite, satisfied that it was healing nicely.

Amelia couldn’t help but grin up at her senior, ”Not it,” she said with a joking suggestive giggle, raising and lowering eyebrows and smirking. She leant back and made herself comfortable in her chair, the unsettling feeling in her stomach that came with the potion territory. It didn’t help the sick feeling she already had.
She found herself watching her head of house as he stood up, walking past her, drawing level with her he looked back at her and smiled. As if infectious, she smiled up at him from her seat. Breaking eye-contact momentarily to look him up and down, catching his eye contact again afterwards.
Seeing his hands movement in her peripheral, she broke eye contact again to see where it was headed. Feeling and seeing it take her wounded hand, she smiled sadly, the memory of the night still something that haunted her in her nightmares, ”All better,” she said a scar predominant between her thumb and forefinger. It had hurt like a bitch at the time, but she was lucky. He could have killed her, instead opting to keep her as a constant supply of drug, not that she ever planned on going into the village after dark ever again.
”Scotty’s been awesome,” she stated, showing her other hand that had heeled better than the other, the cuts not being as bad in the first place, ”He never asks questions. Just does it,” she said fondly. Looking back up at Connery, small smile on her features. As well as her family, Amelia missed her friends. This time of month they were usually so kind, not knowing why she disappeared or why she’d come back so pale, they jus dealt with it. This month she wouldn’t have that. She’d leave Connery next morning feeling like shit and have to deal with it on her own.
Once school finished though, she imagined that she would have to get used to dealing with the entire situation on her own. No Connery, no potions master making her up a vial every month. Thinking about it made her ever-more grateful that she had it now.

The mention of Scotty made Adrian frown in thought. The boy who had used to frequent his office had all but disappeared after what happened to Vivian. There were no jokes or pranks, no fireworks going off randomly and no missing suits of armour. It was sad to see him in the halls too, he never smiled anymore, his face was drawn and his skin was pale. If Adrian didn’t know any better he’d say the boy looked more vampiric than Vivian.
“Scott’s good like that,” he agreed quietly, Scott Kovac was more like his father than any other of his siblings. Slowly the man smiled again and turned away. His mind was now once again on Vivian and the Hog’s Head. It often wandered there and he chuckled again. Every time he thought about what Edward had done to Dacian he couldn’t help but laugh. It wasn’t like the vampire was the innocent victim either, the man had seen how he pushed Ed and thoroughly agreed that the creature had deserved it.
His mind elsewhere, Adrian removed his coat and conjured a mattress and bedding for himself. He couldn’t help but wonder how Silas was doing in his research and almost sent a note with Aussie but decided against it. He pushed the man enough.
“So, how’s James these days?” he asked offhandedly, trying to make conversation.

Amelia could help but think about how much shit everybody had been through in recent weeks. First Viv had been attacked, Scott just pulling away from everybody, going quite, not himself. Then Amelia had been labelled Vampire Drug and held against a wall for her blood, causing James to get annoyed with her because she’d bailed on their meeting, ”Yeah, he is,” she agreed, shifting in her seat to look over at the cage that haunted her on the days she spent away from it.
Amelia couldn’t help but smile slightly when Connery took off his trademark coat. It made her somewhat privileged – considering she doubted not many people saw him out of his protective blanket. She’d seen him in a lot less than it as well. And that certainly was a sight she’d never mind seeing again. No wonder the rumours spread, jealous, the lot of them.
”You tell me,” she answered, shifted her weight so she was leaning on one of the arms of the chair, ”He doesn’t really understand why I’m always looking to Scott. When I’m ill, or in need of anything medical. He jumps to conclusions, I dunno,” she shrugged. In all honesty she hadn’t seen as much of her so-called boyfriend since she’d been attacked. He hadn’t taken being stood up lightly and didn’t understand how a ‘small’ cut that wasn’t worth his worrying about was a good enough excuse.
”I’m getting kinda fed up of the jealousy. It’s not like about to run off with his best mate,” though given half a chance if you’d asked her if she could go back in time and chose between the boys again, she probably would have changed her mind, ”He means a lot to me, but he drives me insane,” she added as an after thought.
Standing up and shuffling her way over to her cage as she spoke she leant against the top looking into her ‘home’ for the night, ”Don’t think it helps that everybody thinks I’m sleeping with you,” she turned her gaze back to the professor and smiled. They were always joking with each other, becoming good friends over the times that she’d been to him on the full moon, it was only a matter of time before people thought as much. Amelia was just shocked that it had taken as long as it had. She could have minded about their ‘mistake’ more if had been any other teacher. But there were worse people to be having an affair with than Adrian Connery.

For a moment the man thought over what Ame had said. Scott Kovac was an incredibly gifted healer, some thought he was even better than the school nurse and went to him instead. As the Head of Gryffindor house Adrian should have reprimanded Scott and his little healing business, after all under the table medications and wound dressings was hardly a legal practice. But the man didn’t have the heart to. Scott enjoyed fixing people and it puzzled him why the boy insisted he wanted to be an Auror. If he did indeed become one, the department would make him a field medic instantly.
“James is a boy, we do get jealous a lot,” the man laughed. So Ame’s and James’ relationship was on the rocks. A small part of him couldn’t help but rejoice a little and that confused him. Shrugging it off as a normal reaction, Adrian snorted as Amelia’s comment of them sleeping together reached his ears. “Would it make you more comfortable with the rumours if we did sleep together?” Adrian joked as he tugged at his tie. Adding to the joke, he winked at her with a sly smile plastered on his face. Now it had been mentioned he couldn’t help but think about it.
It would be awesome, but so wrong. Adrian shook his head, not liking where his train of thought was going. To distract himself he began to stroke Aussie’s chest, causing the owl to hoot quietly in pleasure.

Boy or not, it was a pain in the arse to have to watch every word she said just because Potter might get jealous. It was ridiculous that she’d have to lie about going to see the nurse just because it made him feel like the better man. At the end of the day, Scott didn’t question why she didn’t want to see the nurse and why simple potions and things refused to work for her system. He just accepted her as an oddball and carried on.
”Are you now?” she replied, laughing softly. She was only winding him up, that’s how they were. But he didn’t have use an interesting word choice. ‘We’ rather than ‘they’, granted he was only six years older than the majority of their year but that didn’t make him a boy and it sure as hell didn’t make him a student.
Amelia couldn’t help but laugh at what he said, not being able to help herself from watching him loosen his tie and smile at her. There was a lot of that. And there were jokes, and there was taking said joke a little too far, and thereafter taking it way to far. There were on the second step already, what would it hurt to go the whole hog? ”Yeah,” she answered truthfully, gaining his attention from his bird by reaching out the few foot that separated them and taking his tie in her hands.
She took a step forward, the proximity of the pair was so far past questionable. Running her hands up the silk she grabbed the knot and pulled, loosening the fabric from around his neck and allowing it to pull away in her hands. Gaining his eye contact she dropped the offending item to the floor, ”Much better,” she remarked, holding his gaze for what felt like a minute before she moved again.
This was a massive mistake. So wrong on so many levels, but right now she didn’t care. She pulled on the bottom of his crumpled shirt, attempting to flatten out the creases, before her gaze went from his eyes to his lips and straight back again. So very wrong. But if the rumours were true she’d not be lying when she sarcastically made come backs to the idiots that had believed the lies. She pushed herself up onto the balls of her feet, eye shutting, as she pressed her lips to his.
Pulling back and dropping after a few long seconds, ”I’m sorry,” she exclaimed, not moving any further from him, ”I shouldn’t have don-“ she tried to continue but stopped herself in her tracks. All she could do was look at him.

Adrian watched Amelia Pace take off his tie, eyes wide. Moral alarms bells were starting to ring in his head but he did nothing. He was too shocked to move let alone voice that fact that the way she looked at him was wrong. The only thing he could do was stand blushing and looking shocked. Of course he couldn’t lie and say he didn’t like it though. Some attention that wouldn’t end up him having any broken bones, just the loss of his job and a court case if someone found out.
Just as he was about to tell her to stop the man felt her lips on his, what was life without risks? Adrian’s breath hitched and his body screamed as she pulled away. In his mind the alarm bells were ringing but were being drowned out by the want of more. “It’s ok,” he whispered, cupping her cheek. Without thinking, he bridged the gap between them and kissed her again. There was no denying it, Adrian was easy. One kiss and he’d lost all control and ignored all the morally wrong aspects.
All thoughts of how wrong, inappropriate and stupid this whole situation was were pushed from the man’s mind. Instead there was nothing but Ame and his lips on hers.

Amelia had no idea where any of this was coming from. She had a boyfriend, grant a grumpy, jealous ridden boyfriend, but a boyfriend all eh same. One that would most likely squish Connery to a bloody mess if he found out about this. Hell, most people would. Not many people would be able to see the reason behind a teacher kissing a student, regardless of who instigated it. Amelia wasn’t going to be the one to lose everything if his move was ever found out.
Before she could reply again his lips were back on hers, she wasn’t about to deny it. She tried hard to think about the moral implications of their actions, but she couldn’t seem to think straight about anything. Kissing her rather attractive teacher and on the verge of a full moon, it made it incredibly difficult for Amelia to think about anything much. Apart from-
Shit! she thought to herself. Full moon! she inwardly complained. Life was not fair. Christmas was destined to suck and when it was just getting better. Taking her arms from around his neck, she pressed one final kiss to his lips she pulled away reluctantly, ”We can’t do this,” she admitted, shaking her head, ”Not now,” she finished, indicating out the window, ”Not unless you wanna join me every month in my cage?”

Adrian was disappointed when Amelia pulled back from the kiss but also a little relieved, but mostly disappointed. He pouted slightly but knew she was right. The full moon made things even more complicated than they already were. She’d said not now so did that mean this would happen again? A lot of him hoped so. He was guilty to admit to himself that he’d enjoyed it more than a little.
Adrian’s heart was still beating at an outrageous pace and he watched her move even further back, resisting the urge to pull her closer again. He couldn’t help but laugh shakily at her comment about the cage. “No thanks, I’ll be right,” he didn’t want to say ‘we’ll pick up where we left off,’ because he wanted to. He was being reckless and stupid, a bad habit he’d always had. Hopefully she wanted to pick it up though.
A shiver of anticipation and excitement made its way up his spine. For some reason his heart wouldn’t slow down and he had to sit down to distract himself from Ame. It was all too tempting to disregard the full moon and he couldn’t help but stare at her for a moment.
