Teenage years usually came with some sort of drama but this was ridiculous. Bullying was common practise in schools and taking part or being subjected to it was part of the daily in and outs of school life, but there was a serious difference between a juvenile little “yo Mama” gag and an accused rape case. Rape, aside from being horrendous and unfair to be trivialised, was also a legal matter and severely punishable by law. No one could press charges on Toby’s behalf and Diana found herself seriously hoping he wasn’t that vindictive.
”Told me that I shouldn’t talk to him, that I’d already stolen something sacred.”
”I see. So that completely rules out talking to him then,” Diana sighed and looked down as though to examine her clasped hands. Still, Toby? He had a bit of a mean streak when provoked but Diana hadn’t seen much of him to give her the impression he could deliberately go out and plan to ruin someone’s life in this fashion. It was very, well, un-Gryffindor. ”I think you were right the second time. Chances are he decided to run with the story as it spread and didn’t care how hard you got hit on the way. Has he talked about pressing charges or anything?” she asked, looking up seriously.

Joshua ran fingers through his hair, listening to her calm and quiet words. There was something about her that made him feel better, which he supposed had to do with the way she knew things without him having to say a single word. It was a good feeling, to be believed by someone. Sure, there was Marian and she'd shout the truth to the entire world, but who would believe a single Hufflepuff girl? No, if he had any chance of making it through this relatively unharmed it would mean having to have some teachers at his side.
"Pressing charges? No Professor." Josh's voice sounded soft, his thoughts suddenly racing. He'd thought that the worst could be getting expelled from Hogwarts, but Professor Addair was right. If Toby decided to press charges...he could very well end up in prison. "I never thought that he would do something like that. I can't talk to him though. I tried and he just played the victim. I don't know what to do ma'am." He looked up at her, hoping and praying that she would find some way to help him out. Sure, he could go to Headmistress McGonagall, but would that really help? Unless he dragged Toby with him, and he was pretty damn sure that would never happen.

||OoC|| Illu is back, baby! Shortness can be shrugged off on Dead muse of Dead. Hey, at least I tried? || McGonagall would still need to be told, Diana thought as though suddenly floating in on Joshua’s own brainwave. Better she hear the events right from Joshua’s mouth than the garbled version of events from someone else - or worse, that darn paper - that could just degenerate the situation. It was the McGonagall’s school now after all and if anyone had a right to know, it was her, assuming she wasn’t already mysteriously on top of things. Otherwise it would be quite confusing when complaints started filing in once Toby told his- ... wait.
”Has Toby told his parents yet? Or any other adult who might try and take things into their own hands?” Diana suddenly asked as the thought struck her. Parents who thought something terrible had happened to their kids could be, well, overzealous in ensuring vengeance to say the least, and she didn’t know anything about Toby’s parents to make an informed guess. It would be even more awkward if that’s how they found out he was gay. Yeesh.

Josh stared at her for a moment when she asked whether or not Toby had told anyone. Not as far as he’d heard, but he wasn’t really in on the workings of the younger Gryffindors mind, was he? It was very well possible that some students had told their parents, but he doubted that Tobias would bring the rumor up in conversation, unless he had suddenly decided to out himself. As far as Josh was aware, the boy still hadn’t mentioned his extra-curriculur activities to his extremely religious mother. He doubted that he would either. Not over something that he knew wasn’t rape.
”I don’t know, Professor. His mother...she’s got her own thoughts about gay people. I doubt he would risk losing her by admitting something like this. She’d grill him for the truth.” Now of course Rhys could have mentioned something, but he knew that the Ravenclaw was totally crazy about his brother and would never do something to hurt him on purpose.
She was right in assuming that McGonagall needed to be told, but what she didn’t know was that he couldn’t. It would be...too embarrassing. Too weird. Most of all, he didn’t want her to think that he was covering for himself, creating an alibi before he was even asked about the whole thing. ”Would you...I mean...You know the truth, right? Could you tell the Headmistress? She’d believe you.” It was almost a desperate plea, brown eyes looking up at her with hope.

“I see.” Well, that seemed to have all the bases covered. Josh, it seemed, would be safe from any outside retribution although the emotional scarring and rumours floating around the school would certainly make his life hell until was disproven or something else came around for the students to talk about. Although, honestly, it couldn’t be said the antics of some of the staff were any more mature, particularly between one Idris Argall and Abraham Grey.
”Of course I could tell her for you,” Diana reassured in what she hoped was a soothing tone of voice. It was probably best. Josh looked like he would dissolve right back into sobs if he was forced to tell anyone again and she would much rather save him from the trauma. For a moment she considered asking him if he’d like a few days off classes before thinking against it. He’d rejected all her other suggestions which would mean he might think students would take an absense as a sure sign of his guilt. ”Don’t worry about it.” Yeah, well, all well and good to say that when she was the bystander.
They lingered around for another few minutes talking until Diana felt satisfied that Josh would be able to walk outside her office a lot calmer than how he’d walked in. Long after he’d left Diana was still pacing back and forth for a while trying to pre-plan what she was going to say to McGonagall. She’d had plenty of disagreements over Divination with the headmistress but this was different. Nothing decent was coming so mind, so, deciding to bite the bullet, she finally left her office some minutes after Josh left in order to see McGonagall. ||OoC|| *Beats self* It took like, 9 years, but we’re done! ||
