Surprised at the hug, Jake only had time to react and lean into Ashley for a moment before he was gone. Take that little comfort Jake slowly eased out of feeling awkward and nervous completely. Ash had that effect sometimes, he could make Jake nervous and not know what to do or say..then other times he could make those feelings go away. Jake liked that about him.
The blush was up on his cheeks before he could stop it. God.. had he really just blushed at that? Jake scratched his cheek trying to be nonchalant about it, and hoping Ashley couldn't see the color on his face in the weird lighting from the room. "That wouldn't be too horrible, I guess" he joked glancing at Ash and smiling slightly. A smile that reached his eyes so it wasn't one to be thought of as if he was faking being comfortable.
His smile widened a bit at Ash started playing with his necklace. Was that a nervous habit of some sort, like how Jake tended to play with his bracelet when he was really nervous or just bored. It could be either of those or just something to do. He didn't verbally respond that time, but he heard the question in the comment and that gave him one more thing to be thinking about before sleep came that night.

"That wouldn't be too horrible, I guess"
Ashley couldn’t help it, he laughed at that, bumping into Jake’s shoulder with his own, but rather than moving away again, he lingered close to the other. ”Gee thanks” His voice sounded playfully sarcastic. He was in a good mood, happy to be around Jake, who made him comfortable in his own skin. Sure, he could take offense to it, but he was pretty sure the Ravenclaw hadn’t meant it quite as bad as it could sound. Okay, so he hadn’t fully responded the way Ash had been hoping, but he supposed that he was aiming for the stars a bit. A nice thing to do, but not really realistic.
”That’s what I’m good for then, increasing your ego” His brown eyes were sparkling as he looked at Jake, feeling the urge to lean in and kiss him just once. He almost did, but at the last second he redirected his aim and pressed soft lips to the other boys jaw. ”There then. I at least deserve a finders fee, don’t I? Before you get out of the closet and go chase all the pretty boys Hogwarts has to offer.” He’d help him grow comfortable in his own skin, it was a promise inbetween the teasing. It didn’t matter if Jake didn’t think of him like that. Ash still wanted the Ravenclaw to be able to look at himself in the mirror and not play pretend all the time.
”I swear...sometimes it’s like Hogwarts has more gay kids than straight ones. No wonder all the Slytherin bitches look increasingly fuglier. They’re just pissed off cause no one is interested in getting into their knickers anymore.” It helped, teasing him and joking around. Ash was hoping that Jake would see there was nothing wrong with being gay.

Jake started chuckling with Ash laughed because it was awkwardly funny. He probably could have thought of a better way to joke about it but didn't before. "It could be worse.. I could have gone Eew!" he said, making the ew sound a bit girly just to continue the good mood between them.
"Well, my ego.." he started replying before he realized that Ash's face was getting closer to his. Beginning to panic just slightly he almost turned his head away but Ashley beat him to it by changing his own course. Jake's eyes got big for a moment, completely surprised that Ash had just kissed him. His skin was tingling a little where the kiss was and Jake had to stop his hand from reaching up and touching that spot with his finger tips. He looked down at the water quickly again, shifting a little in his seat uncomfortably before he relaxed and leaned back against the side of the pool again. Very slowly a little sheepish, but happy grin spread over his face and he looked over at Ash and laughed softly at his comment about a finders fee. "Some finders fee..I've probably got five o-clock shadow and stubble" he said softly, finding it amusing that Ash was that bold in the first place.
Shaking his head a little at the joke about all the gay students he kept smiling. "The Slytherin girls have always been ugly. It's their manners" He was glad that Ash moved on after the kiss to joke some more, if he hadn't then Jake probably would have wanted to get away fast.

Ash was happy that Jake seemed to take things so well. It was a little awkward, yes, but nothing that either of them seemed incapable of dealing with. The Hufflepuff was glad that the older male didn’t try and get away from him as much as possible. ”Stubble looks good on you” He whispered softly, as if he was sharing a very important secret. Then he laughed again, leaning against the side of the pool. ”Of course, I have to say that, or you’ll leave me here...and I don’t think wrinkly is the best look for me.”
Yes, he was trying the best he could to make Jake comfortable again, having noticed how he tensed up and shifted in his seat. The last thing Ash wanted was for the other to be hesitant about touching him – after all, if he wanted to get out of the pool, dried off and dressed, he definitely needed some help. Not that he seriously thought that the Ravenclaw would bolt and leave him here, he still wanted to make sure that the boy was comfortable with the touches they shared.
”But I got my finders fee now, so don’t worry...the fag won’t jump on you” It was like coloured people were allowed to call themselves nigger, queers were allowed to make stupid fag jokes. Ash just wished that Jake wouldn’t be so uptight about possibly being gay. Regardless of whether or not he was attracted to him, he just wanted the other to grow comfortable in his own skin. If he wasn’t so sure Jake would take it the wrong way, he would have told him exactly what he liked about the older Ravenclaw.

The blush had mostly faded from Jake's face but with Ash whispering a bout how stubble looked on him, it came back and he just nudged Ash's shoulder with his own. "Nah, I wouldn't leave you here even if you tried to jump me" he said honestly. He wouldn't leave a friend hanging over something stupid, not that acting on an attraction was really stupid, but still Jake wasn't one to leave someone in need. "But I agree.. wrinkly doesn't look good on anyone" he shifted a little in his seat to be turned more towards Ash, pulling a leg up to curl it under him as he faced Ash.
He glanced around the room for a moment just to see the time, he'd forgotten the whole reason why he'd come up here in the first place. Try and figure out his thoughts on Ashley then go back to his dorm room to finish that essay due in a couple of days. It seemed like the essay would have to wait yet another day. Jake actually didn't mind that he was side tracked tonight, it wasn't anything he expected but from how things had been going in the last five minutes between him and the younger male, Jake doubted that things would stay the same from now on. Everything was going to change.. even if he was apprehensive about the change, it felt like it would be a good one.
"I could take you if you jumped me. I didn't get fit from just lounging around in front of the tube" he said, flexing his muscles quickly before laughing at himself. Jake didn't think how the first part of his sentence could be taken a number of ways. When he finally spotted the clock and saw the time he sighed, it was getting late. "We probably should get out of here soon.. it's almost curfew" he said, sad that their time was now limited.

"I could take you if you jumped me. I didn't get fit from just lounging around in front of the tube"
Ashley couldn’t help it. He giggled again, leaning forward and resting his head against Jake’s shoulder for a moment, forehead pressing against warm, wet skin. ”You can make innocent comments sound so dirty” He inhaled quietly, letting the boys scent fill him with contentment and a soft, fuzzy feeling in his stomach. Then, sitting up straight, his face fell as the boy mentioned the time. He really didn’t feel like going anywhere that included separating for the night.
”Is it stupid that I don’t want to go?” Ash glanced up at the Ravenclaw, playing with the water, creating little ripples as he moved through the warm liquid. Almost all the bubbles had gone, but they were both still semi-clothed, so it wasn’t anything too bad. The Hufflepuff couldn’t help but think how they would have to dry off, how he would need help and feel embarrassed now that the other knew how he really felt with every small touch. He just hoped that, despite of what Jake had said, he wouldn’t feel uncomfortable.
Part of him wanted to ask whether or not they’d meet up again soon, but he didn’t want to lay a claim on someone who just wanted to be his friend. Though he had a tendency to get clingy sometimes, he really disliked it when others tried to control his life. It was why the blonde bit his lip, forcing that question back down his throat and just giving the other a smile instead.

Jake glanced down at Ash's face when he leaned his head against Jake's shoulder "Don't mean to.." he murmured, but kept the smile on his face. It did sound dirty after Jake thought about it, hence why he didn't get embarrassed over it this time. Wish Ash's hair obscuring Ashley's face Jake didn't even think about how it'd look when he reached up and pushed the blond's bangs off to the side, his wet fingers brushing against Ash's still dry skin.
He sighed a little "No, it's not stupid. I don't exactly want to leave either.." he said truthfully. He was enjoying this time alone with Ash and being comfortable; more importantly, he was feeling more comfortable with the possibility of himself being gay. Watching Ash's fingers in the water, Jake's own hand started to make little ripples, before splashing playfully at Ash to try and lighten the mood.
"We don't have to go just yet.." he murmured, he hadn't brought up the time to damper their moods or hint that he wanted to go, because he didn't. He just brought it up merely as an observation. He'd rarely stayed out after curfew unless he was feeling spontaneous or something. He'd only been caught twice, and he figured if they were caught tonight for being out after curfew, he hoped that he could serve detention with Ash. He glanced over at Ashley's face again, tilting his head when it looked like the other boy had something he wanted to say but instead bit his lip and smiled. "What were you going to say?" he asked, giving him a little nudge with his shoulder.

He shivered a little when Jake brushed the blonde strands from his cheek, glancing up at the boy and wishing he never had to move again. The Ravenclaw made him feel safe and liked, something he hadn’t felt for a while. So yea, maybe falling in love with him was stupid, Ashley honestly couldn’t care too much at this point. He liked feeling this way. The butterflies, the nervousness, that laughter that kept bubbling up whenever the older male looked at him a certain way...it was something he never wanted to stop feeling.
When he was splashed, he couldn’t help but smile, pouting a little as he flicked some of the water back towards Jake. ”We should do this again sometime...I haven’t had a bath this much fun in a long time.” The blonde stayed quiet for a moment, his voice softer when he added ”I haven’t had this much fun in anything in a long time”. It was true. Spending time with Jake was simple. There were hardly any complicated conversations, even the whole are-you-gay thing had blown over pretty quickly.
”I was just...wondering if we can hang out again soon” The boy realized how it sounded and bit his lip, a slight flush starting to creep up. ”Not like a date or anything, just...I like spending time with you. If you’re up for it.” His smile was a little shy, coffee coloured eyes warm as they gazed at the other. Hopefully Jake would understand what he meant and not feel awkward about it.

Jake watched Ash's face for a moment, thinking that he could almost read the thoughts running through that blond head of his. Jake was having more fun with anyone than he had in ages. He also was starting to feel close to someone again, something he missed dearly. Just being around Ashley made Jake feel like he really belonged and that he was wanted. Ash's bright smile helped a whole lot too, making Jake's stomach twist pleasantly at the half little grin he usually got in greeting. Ash's happy personality was pretty addicting too, with Jake thinking the world was a pretty crap place with the Hufflepuff things felt and looked a little brighter.
Chuckling softly when he was splashed in return he nodded slightly, catching Ash's gaze before replying softly ”I haven't either.” Jake was glad he'd found Ashley and they became friends. He could even call him his best friend, since he knew more about Jake than almost everyone. Especially the fact that Jake was adopted, and now Ash knew his biological father's name.
Jake smiled warmly back at Ashley when he got a little flushed from asking to hang out again. He almost chuckled when he quickly added about it not being a date, but held it in, just so he didn't think Jake was laughing at him. He nodded again after a moment, ”Yeah..I think we should. I'm up for it as long as you are” The question to spend more time with Ash was bouncing around Jake's brain, and he was relieved that Ash had asked it first. Jake would have found him sooner or later to hang out again either way, but this made things a little easier.

Ash grinned again when Jake said he would like to hang out with him again. It was a smile that lit up his face, that literally told everyone why Callie always called him Sparkles. He leaned into Jake for a moment, humming something under his breath. He felt content with being here, even if his upper half was starting to get a little cold.
”Would you mind helping me cross the bath for a bit? I can swim once I’m in the right position, it’s just getting there that’s difficult” He had quite a bit of strength in his upper body, so he’d be able to swim to the opposite end, where another few steps would lead them out of the water. It wouldn’t work if he had to swim a lot longer than that, but it was just a little distance, and he really wanted to feel weightless for those few moments.
”Then, I think” He continued, sighing ”that we should probably get our clothes and head back to the dorms. It is nearing curfew and I don’t want to get you in trouble.” As much as he liked the thought of spending more time with the Ravenclaw, the fact that he had said he’d like to hang out more often meant that their time didn’t have to be so limited after all. It meant that curfew was just like the break in a movie theater...a time for them to get some rest, do other things that life demanded of them.
