She raised her head and met his eyes with her own, darker blue ones. She stared at him for a few moments before her face broke into a large grin. The boy's presence and touch had an amazing effect on her, comforting her raging nerves and quietening her inner doubts, and she did indeed love it. Merlin knows what she'd be like if she didn't have someone like Ryan to calm her on the rare occasions that she had a mood like this.
Feeling happier now, Acia shook her head at his words.
"You're anything but stupid." She assured him, "If all guys are stupid, then you can't be a guy. You're a wonderful person, Ryan."
She gave him another large, affectionate smile. Then, feeling quite out of character, she leant forward and kissed him on the cheek, then rested her head on his shoulder.
"I'm deadly serious, by the way. You seriously are lovely. More than you give yourself credit for." She paused, only for a second, before concluding her little speech with "I'm glad I made friends with you. It could possibly be the best choice I've made so far."

Ryan smiled as she leaned in and kissed his cheek, wrapping arms around her and cuddling close. He could be quite affectionate, he just usually tried to hold himself back and not make things uncomfortable or something that they weren’t supposed to be. But he felt safe with Acia. She was a sweet person, someone who managed to cheer him up without it being a whole big sexual thing. In fact, if anyone proposed something sexual to Acia, he’d most likely send a hex in the direction of their groin.
”So are you. I’m glad we’re friends.” He hoped that Dominique or anyone else didn’t think there was something more to them. It would feel wrong somehow to even think about that. He knew that people would most likely assume they were a couple, maybe even try to warn Acia about his reputation. He also knew that she wouldn’t care too much. She knew all about his crazy antics, about almost every person he had been with. She also knew why he did it, why he couldn’t help himself sometimes. It was as close to understanding as anyone could come. He hoped that Dominique would exhibit the same patience that his friend had, if he ever worked up the courage to tell her about everything.

Sitting up straight, Acia clapped her hands together and laughed slightly. The girl's moods would often take turns like this - they'd take a nosedive and make her feel scared, nervous and self-conscious for a while, then quickly return to her typical chipper self. Now she'd recovered from her emotional blip, she started to focus on her friend once again. She beamed brightly at the Slytherin and held his hand in both of hers, trying to assure him that she'd be there for him, no matter what.
Her own problems now pushed to the back of her mind, she began to think of ways to distract her friend from his current predicament. She swayed from side to side, trying to trigger her creativity to come up with something. Unfortunately, that part of her brain seemed to have frost bite, and the best sentence she could come up with was "So... Have you got any plans for today?"
She mentally kicked herself. Surely, she could've thought of something better or more interesting than that? It was times like this that she wished she had more of a way with words... or an ounce of charisma, at least. However, she knew that her mind wouldn't come up with anything better, and she also knew that Ryan wouldn't really care. So she gave him a small smile to apologise for her clumsy sentences, and left her question at that.

Ryan smiled back at her, squeezing her hand softly and enjoying how content and relaxed he could be around Acia. She generally made him feel better, no matter what happened or what kind of trouble he was in. Whenever she was around, she would listen, instead of judge. God, she would make an awesome girlfriend to someone some day. Though he sincerely hoped that she would slap any cheating bastard that dared to take her for granted.
Tucking a strand of hair behind her ear, he tried to think of things to do. It was cold out, but it promised to be a bright, sunny day. Perhaps they could go and take a walk into the forest. Did vampires come out during the day? He couldn’t help but wonder...the forest was dark even as the sun rose into the sky. He didn’t really feel like putting her in danger. But Hogsmeade was predictable and boring and he didn’t feel like spending his day surrounded by other people anyway. ”I could draw you” He offered, smiling. It was about time she started noticing how beautiful she was.

Acia blinked at Ryan a couple of times, with a slightly confused look on her face. Surely, the boy must be joking. Why would he want to draw her? The thought baffled her so much that in the end, she decided he was indeed joking and laughed politely.
"Really, Ry, why would you want to mess your sketch book up like that?" She joked along, following her half-serious question with another hearty laugh. Honestly, of all the beautiful people in Hogwarts that he could choose to draw, why would he seriously pick her? It sounded crazy to her, which is why she was so sure he was just fooling about.
Perhaps some people may have taken offence to this jest, but Acia knew that it wasn't meant in a spiteful way, and she definitely knew he wasn't calling her ugly or anything like that. Though it seemed a bit of an odd thing to joke about, she merely assumed that Ryan's sense of humour was just a little off today, and she brushed it off.
"No, seriously, what do you want to do today?" She returned to her original question with a smile.

He couldn’t help laughing when she looked so confused, then started laughing. He had been serious about it though, and the moment she mentioned messing up his sketchbook, he shook his head forcefully. ”No, I mean it. I want to draw you. Please?” He gave her his best puppy look before looking at her with an artists eye. Tongue stuck between his teeth, Ryan reached out and messed up her hair a little, casting a lock in front of her eyes.
”Like this. I want to draw you like this. Then everyone will see how beautiful you are.” Not can be. Are. Because no matter how she looked, Acia was beautiful. In tears, all smiles, her hair tied up neatly or tousled by the wind. She was a gorgeous girl and it was about time people started to notice. Though he knew that when guys took a fancy to her, he’d be overly protective, almost like a big brother would be.
”It’s about time. Or I could just draw it and give it to you as a Christmas present...keeps me safe from throwing myself into the masses of shoppers...you know how much I hate that.” He didn’t really, he just never knew what to buy for people. Growing up in a home where you got everything your heart desired had left him with a need to buy presents that meant something. Presents that people genuinely loved but didn’t want to ask for.

Acia looked up at Ryan, surprise clear in her eyes, and ruffled up a part of her already messy hair. Possibly the most shocking thing for her was that she could tell he was being completely sincere. Not polite, or kind, or charming. Everything he was saying was pure honesty, and made her feel incredibly happy, albeit still a little nervous.
”Are...Are you sure?” She said sheepishly, biting her lip and looking at him with big, blue eyes. Again, another stupid question. It was quite clear that he was indeed certain about this, and wouldn’t change his mind. ”I don’t... Don’t really mind. You can draw me... If you want to, of course...”
She rocked herself backwards to rearrange her position from kneeling to sitting. She crossed her legs, and quietly started picking bits of leaves off of her legs. In her mind, she thought over what she could get for him for Christmas. She’d fully formulated an idea, which she personally thought was a great gift, before she glanced back up at Ryan.
“You know you don’t have to get me a Christmas present by the way, don’t you?” She smiled at him. ”Having you as a friend is a good enough gift for me.”

”I do” Ryan answered, assuring her that yes, he had been serious about drawing her. He just waved her comment about presents away, knowing that she would never get what she deserved if she kept telling people not to give her gifts. He for one knew that no matter how much he bought, she’d never get exactly what she deserved to have for sticking by him. Still, he’d try.
”Do you want to do it now? Or somewhere else? Maybe it’s a little cold?” She looked beautiful though. The scenery complimented her face, a soft blush tinting her cheeks from the cold. This was the way he wanted to draw her. Not all perfect and made up like so many girls that walked around the castle. She was real this way. He liked to be able to draw emotion into a sketch, trying to make it as alive as he could without turning it into a real wizarding picture.
”I need to talk to Dominique, by the way. She deserves more than she’s getting from me. I need to fix that somehow.” He barely ever mentioned her, which was an indication of how important she had been lately. ”Why can’t I be normal, Acia? Why can’t I just fall in love with her like I’m supposed to?”

"We can, if you want." She beamed at Ryan and shrugged her shoulders slightly. "I'm not that affected by cold... Snow's the main problem for me..."
It was true. She'd happily go out in a summer dress and leggings in cold temperatures, but as soon as snow even threatened to fall, that was it for her. She'd bundle herself up as if she was scared of catching pneumonia. For some reason, she’d only realise that it was indeed cold once it began to snow or rain. Otherwise, she was oblivious to it. For all she knew, it could be a perfectly fine summers day.
”I need to talk to Dominique, by the way.”
Acia raised her head at these words and listened intently to what he said. When he declared that Dominique deserved better, she considered arguing back that Ryan could be everything she deserved with just a bit more effort, or that the girl so obviously adored him so much that just being with him would be all that she wanted, but she knew how fruitless that cause would be. Instead, she just sighed slightly and nodded her head as a sign of understanding. When he asked her why he couldn’t be normal, she shook her head violently.
”It’s not you.” She said, sounding sure of herself. ”I don’t mean to say it’s her fault. That’s not what I’m saying. I mean...”
She paused and messed her hair up again, whilst carefully considering her next sentence. With Acia, words didn’t tend to come out in a coherent manner, and she often found herself having to concentrate on piecing her words together before she actually said them. A lengthy process sometimes, but at least she didn’t often blurt out anything harmful or that shouldn’t be said.
”What I meant was, love’s never normal.” She said at last with a gentle smile. ”Even I know that. You can be sure that it’ll screw up sometimes, because that’s what humans do. It’s just unfortunate that it’s decided to be a right headache for you...”

Ryan took out his sketchbook when she gave him the okay, sharpening his pencils with a muggle device – it always seemed to work out much better for him than trying to sharpen them by magic – and watching the little pieces be scattered by the wind. Flipping to an empty page in his book, he took in her words without commenting on them at first. Just like she needed time to find the right words, he needed time to process them and formulate the proper reply.
”I want to be good, you know?” He glanced up at her, an artists look this time, with little to none of the horrible feelings that had been hiding in his blue eyes for so long. It was why he loved drawing. With every line committed to paper, he worried less about the predicament he was in. It was like it faded into the background for a while. ”I want to be a proper boyfriend and treat her the way she deserves. I really want to try...when I’m with her. It’s just that I’m not with her very often. She’s got her own life and mine...tends to get me in trouble.”
He really wanted to be faithful to her, but when she wasn’t around, he couldn’t help but wonder about so many things. Life in general, was one. Was he going to graduate school with the kind of marks that would make his parents proud? Would he be forced into an education when all he really wanted was to draw? Would he be living the life his father expected him to, have the proper wife and the lovely little children that would carry on the Robins name? He was the only one left with that name.
But he didn’t want children. What if they ended up being like him? What if it was genetic somehow and his kids would end up feeling the same loneliness he did, every day of their existance? What if they would blame him for bringing them into this life? It would be selfish. Yes, part of him wanted kids, wanted that unconditional love only those related by blood could give you. But it wouldn’t be fair to ask them to suffer through a life he hadn’t wanted for himself in the first place.
Ryan sighed, committing Acia’s lovely face to paper. A few lines at first, hesitant strokes on a clean surface, until very, very slowly, it started to form a face. He had planned to do a quick sketch first, but only proper drawing made him relax, and he soon began to immerse himself in it, taking the time to get every line just right.
