25th April, 2003. Taurus.
Height:
6’4”
Build:
Muscular and athletic.
Wand:
This is an ideal all-purpose wand, one of the best possible choices – powerful, precise and manageable at the same time. it indicates the owner’s high abilities in magic as well as his inner personal strength. Especially good for higher Transfiguration and for the building of complex structures or objects, as well as for works dealing with will-domination. Points to possible success in Alchemy. Can be used in dark practices, though not for direct destruction.
New wand has been gotten:
Birch with phoenix feather core. 10 and-a-quarter inches.
Clear, definite and light. Very good for charms and for healing purposes. Suits well for transfiguration, especially in renewing various things or creating a new structure instead of the lost one. Can successfully dispel evil curses, but is less suitable for direct combat. Extremely good for spells dealing with light.
Patronus:
An Ocelot. This species of wild cat looks like a cross between a large house cat and a Jaguar. Preferring to be solitary, they will sometimes allow other Ocelots into their territories to socialise. This is a lot like Rickie and how he deals with people.
Laughing and sharing a smoke with his fellow soldiers whilst sitting in the snow of the battlefield.
Boggart:
The grim. On the battle field he stalks you constantly. Always lurks in the shadows of trenches, foxholes and hospitals waiting for men to take their last breaths and no matter how hard Rickie tried it still claimed its victims. Basically Rickie fears death for himself and others.
Dementor:
The screams of all the men Rickie ever treated on the battlefield but couldn’t save.
Amortentia:
Antiseptic, that ‘fresh’ water smell, kitten fur.
Nickname(s):
Rick.
Clothing Style:
Rickie isn’t really fussy when it comes to what he wears. If it’s cold he’ll wear a jumper, if it’s warm he won’t. Doesn’t matter to him what the jumper looks like, he’ll wear it. The same applies to trousers, shoes and any other article of clothing. Though he does have some self-respect. He won’t wear clashing colours or anything that went out of style a long time ago. Is a big fan of jeans.
[/ul] the inner workings
His cat, good company and distraction. Muck is like a human anyway.
Being around people, they distract him from delving too far into his thoughts.
Peanut Butter, Rickie loves the stuff, verging on obsession.
Women, though he’s even more awkward around them than his brother.
Hogsmeade, since he was a student he’s always liked the village.
Saving people, gives him a sense of accomplishment.
Jeans, comfy.
Kids, they’re awesome, he’d love to have some one day.
The cold, it’s so much more manageable than the heat.
Snow, it’s nice when you’re rugged up just to sit out in it for awhile. In the snow is the only time Rickie can almost bear to be alone with his thoughts.
Cigarettes, uses them to relax instead of alcohol.
Card games, another good way to wind down and relax.
Dislikes:
His Memories, from his parents’ and best mate’s death to war and his brother he hates to get lost in them. He fears he’ll never be able to resurface.
Owls, just not a fan, never was.
Marmite, it’s gross and it makes him feel sick.
Alcohol, although he hates his memories he doesn’t drink to escape them.
His brother Adrian, controlling asshole thought he could tell Rickie how to live his life just because he was older.
Water, especially rain, he hates being wet; it’s a health risk more than anything.
Sharks, another reason he avoids water, blame Jaws.
Loud noises especially cracks and bangs, they make him jump and remind him of being in the middle of a battle.
Jokes about war or death, he takes them too literally.
People who want to fix him, he’s not broken.
Being asked about his past, never, ever will Rickie talk about it. Ever.
Quirks and Habits:
- Always looks over his shoulder once every 10 minutes when walking.
- Pauses in the middle of sentences.
- Says ‘the bees knees’ a lot.
- Tends to jump at his own shadow.
- Can sleep anywhere, anyway.
- Rubs a hand over his face when stressed.
- Runs a hand through his hair when bored.
Mirror of Erised:
The man he used to be, someone normal.
In Depth Personality:
NOTE: Suffers from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Can be highly unstable and even dangerous if near a trigger.
- Accepts authority, loyal, devoted – At heart Rickie has always been a soldier, dutifully accepting orders from his parents, teachers and other superiors (but never his brother). He his loyal to those who he deems have deserved it. Loyalty is something you have to work to get with Rickie, you don’t just get it by default if you’re blood.
- Ambitious, motivated – No matter what it takes, Rickie Connery finishes what he starts and gets what he wants. He’s not afraid to lie or manipulate to get it or something done.
- Caring – He cares about saving human lives, not trivial things like a non-existent family.
- Courageous – Not afraid to place himself in the line of fire but won’t take any unnecessary risks.
- Decisive – Once he’s made a decision Rickie will not change his mind about it under any circumstance. He is also quick and very precise with his decision making and the choices he does make tend to be the right ones.
- Open-minded, tolerant – Rickie doesn’t care who or what you are as long as you’re easy to talk to and be around.
- Distant, cold, aloof – Although he’s in a room with people, Rickie’s mind is a long way away. He doesn’t really know how to show affection and comes across a lot like he’s ignoring people when they talk to him.
- Closed, guarded, secretive – Rickie won’t talk about his past to anyone, at all. He doesn’t reveal what he’s thinking and keeps his emotions in check and guarded.
- Short Tempered – Piss him off you’ll know about it quickly. Another family trait.
- Has no trust in life – After seeing good people die for seemingly no reason, it’s hard to have faith and trust in life when it all seems pointless and random.
- Malicious – Unlike his brother, when he loses his temper it doesn’t just stop at yelling. Depending on how much someone gets to him he’ll make it his personal goal to make life hell for them for a little while, until he’s satisfied they’ve received adequate retribution.
- Suffers from a minor case of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder - is jumpy, quiet, certain things trigger flashbacks, has trouble sleeping and when he does sleep it mainly consists of nightmares. A lot of the time the disorder impedes his social skills and makes him inredibly hard to deal with.
Self Image:
Before going to war Rickie was happy with himself on the verge of being cocky. He liked the way he looked, the way he dressed, his personality and the way he dealt with problems and conflict. He was comfortable in his skin and very sure of himself.
Since returning from battle things have started to change in his mind. When he looks in the mirror he sees what he used to be. Young and innocent in the world. Now he’s a little less full of himself after seeing the closest thing to hell on earth.
To the Outward Eye:
Sociable but quiet. Rickie likes to surround himself with people but once they start hanging around him he only speaks when spoken to and tends to stare off into the distance a lot. He can also come off as moody and standoffish at times.
Social Status:
Tries to have as many friends as he can but somehow manages to isolate himself from others. Rickie has no one but himself to blame for it. He’s friendly when he wants to be but tends to withdraw from the world, only speaking when spoken to, only going somewhere except the pub when invited, etcetera.
Skills:
Can patch up wounds non-magically, even if he does a rough job it can still be enough to save someone’s life. Is good at cards and is skilled with his hands.

Pets:
Muck the mixed kitten. Barely 8 weeks old, Muck already thinks he rules the roost. Courageous, the kitten will often chase or attack things twice his size. He can often be seen escaping wherever Rickie lives to run up and down the street chasing birds, bugs, people, dogs, cars, people on brooms, you name it Muck will chase it.
He is also a very crafty cat, no matter what Rickie does to try and prevent his escape he’ll still manage to get out somehow. The kitten also has a thing about collars and has managed to wriggle out of every single one Rickie has put around his neck to date.
Although cheeky, crafty and demanding, Muck is a very affectionate cat, especially when he wants something. There’s nothing more the cat likes to do than curl up in Rickie’s lap. Can also often be found snoozing in one of Rickie’s jacket pockets while the man’s out and about.
Pensieve:
Like Adrian, Rickie was also born to Heather and David Connery but two years after Adrian. Growing up the younger sibling meant he was often babied by his mother and pushed more by his father, not that he minded. Attention was attention to him. It was ok when he got it from his parents but Adrian got the idea in his head that since Rickie was the younger sibling it was his job to protect him and fight his battles.
Over the years it continued and Rickie got sicker and sicker of it. Adrian was always looking over his shoulder and protecting him from non-existent threats. At least when Adrian started Hogwarts, he got a reprieve from it for two years and he thought once he got to school things would be different. They weren’t. From day one at Hogwarts Adrian was as protective as ever.
Life at Hogwarts was unremarkable but was more bearable once Adrian left. Things were thrown into turmoil when Heather and David were killed in a car accident. Adrian, of course started to get even worse than he was before their parents’ death. The older sibling had gotten it into his head that Rickie needed a replacement parental figure. He even told Rickie how to live his life, tried to push him into working at the Ministry.
By that time Rickie had had enough. He moved out of home and joined the army. It was the opposite of what Adrian had wanted for him. He couldn’t be there to protect and to fight his battles anymore. Finally Rickie felt like he was his own person. Before he could begin to fight he was somehow named the medic of his company, which meant that he was never going to fire a weapon outside of training.
At first he thought he’d been sidelined out of real duty but being a medic was more than he thought it would be. On his tour of duty it was his job to stay safe until he was needed. Once he heard the call it was all action. He was the one who had to patch up the wounded in whatever condition -–unless they were dead—for the doctors behind the lines. He saw the horrors they didn’t show on the news or at recruitment centres. Seeing people torn and shot up had a huge impact on Rickie. So much so when his company returned home on leave he split, never wanting to treat another wounded man again.
He made his way to Hogsmeade, the only safe place he could think of, picking Muck up on the way. He knew full well that Adrian was in the area but his brother wasn’t about to keep him out of one of his favourite places.
Friendless, jobless and in hiding from muggle military police, he’s taken to staying in the Three Broomsticks and haunting the bar.

Rickie Connery sighed looking down at the glass of water before him. If he’d known he shared a love of water with Adrian he probably would have picked up a bottle of whiskey and downed it just to say he wasn’t like his brother. Over the past few days the man had grown tired of people asking him about his surname when he told it to them. Instead of admitting he was indeed related to Adrian Connery, he’d taken to saying it was just a coincidence.
The last thing he wanted was for word to get back to Adrian. He wasn’t in Hogsmeade for some tear jerker reunion with his long estranged big brother. Looking up from the drink he noticed the girl behind the bar and smiled at her. As long as she didn’t come over and start talking to him he’d be fine.
She smiled back and Rickie began to grow self conscious. Maybe she could see the scars on his neck? Blushing slightly, the man pulled up his collar and downed the rest of his water. Growing more and more agitated Rickie lifted himself from his barstool and made his way outside for a smoke.
The cold of winter reached his very core and he couldn’t help but shiver slightly. He was a little disappointed to see rain had washed away recent snowfalls but just as he lit up his cigarette, white flakes began to fall from the sky. Looking up into the sky and the twirling, tumbling flakes, for the first time in months Rickie Connery smiled.
