Auggie's stuff, check. Presents, check. Fin sat at the table of her apartment in Salem, eyes flicking between the list she'd made and the mountain of things piled up on the luggage trolley she'd acquired to make it easier. For a birthday party/visit to the family, she was taking a lot, but that was part of the fun when she had a child. Things seemed to multiply... but it was nothing compared to a few months back when August had been a baby. Back then, Fin had gained muscles from lugging his changing bag and toys around. It had been too long since she'd been home, but school had been stressful, being a mother and having to catch up on work she'd missed, try and pass her N.E.W.T.s with some sort of respectable grade. She had a few she was going to retake, but now she was ready for a holiday, head home, spend time with her family. She'd changed so much, her -son- had changed her so much. She'd taken to being a mother much better than she had expected, but the maternal instinct was horrendously strong in her family apparently. She'd managed to stay clean... relatively so anyway. She only drank occasionally now and she smoked, but no one was perfect, and every day was still a struggle. Getting away from everything had been the key though, being somewhere completely new with no memories, no familiar places. God bless the Witness Protection. Annabella had slotted into Salem Academy so well, August was kept out of sight and no one knew about her past. It was bliss. Finally admitting that it didn't matter how many times she went over the list, there would still be something she'd forgotten no matter what, Finlay pulled on her jacket and called to August. The young child came running out of his room, toy train in hand as Fin grabbed his padded coat, scarf, hat and gloves from the chair beside her. Dom had written recently, told her the weather in Hogsmeade hadn't been all that great, so she would be prepared for that at least, making sure they'd stay warm. Wrapping her son up more than the present she'd bought her dad, she smiled at his excited expression, "Looking forward to seeing Nanny and Gramps? Big Granny too?" The youngster nodded and bounced, causing Fin to chuckle at him, "Okay then! Let's go!" Throwing a hat on her own head, followed by a scarf, Fin held her hand out for her son to hold. Taking grip of the trolley, Fin placed Auggie's hands on the bar, letting him step on her bar and have a mini ride. Meandering through her open planned place, Fin reached the fireplace and took a deep breath, she was going home. No more Annabella for a while, she could be Fin again. It was brilliant and terrifying at the same time. Taking a handful of the powder, Fin reminded her son to hold tight, pinning him between her and the trolley. Tossing the powder into the roaring fire, Fin pronounced her home address precisely and pushed them into the flames. ------------------ Moments later, Fin and Auggie tumbled into the spare room of her parents' home in Hogsmeade. The first thing to assault her was the smell, so familiar and soothing. It ignited her own excitement, forgetting her fears for a moment as she scooped August into her arms and went racing downstairs towards the main lounge, "Mum! Dad!? We're here!!" It really had been ages since she'd seen them, not since she'd gone into hiding. |
