Hooray for sleep after a long day’s work. After finally chasing out the drunks and shutting the pub for the night Ed was heading for bed. Quietly he crept through his room, being careful not to wake the girl and Labrador already asleep there. It wasn’t long before he’d changed from his clothes into his pyjamas and was climbing in next to Cassie. He kissed her softly on the forehead before settling himself down, sighing in relief at being off his feet for another day. Almost at once he was asleep, dreaming of all sorts of weird things.
In one dream there was a persistent knocking that just got louder and louder. God damn it someone was at his door and ridiculous o’clock in the morning. A voice soon accompanied the knocking, a voice that sounded very much like Vivian’s. With an undignified snort, Ed blearily opened his eyes, rolled out of bed and blundered through the gloom of his apartment to the door. ”What is it? Wait someone’s in trouble?” at the mention of trouble the Australian was instantly awake aside from the huge yawn that he could feel coming on.
He stifled it and ran downstairs to the main bar only to see, well, no one. He did see that a bottle of liquor was missing from the line against the bar wall and he heard a strange laughing sound coming from behind the bar itself. ”What the?” the man grumbled, going to investigate. The girl he found on the floor with the bottle of missing alcohol made him gawk for a moment in surprise. Ed also recognised her; he’d seen her in the Hog’s Head a few times. ”Uhh are you okay? Viv tells me you were in some kind of trouble. I’m going to help you by taking away that bottle and sobering you up a little,” he said gently, pulling out his wand ready to perform a sobering charm.

I'll tell you something,I am a wolf but I like to wear sheep's clothing............ Rolled onto her side, her free hand rubbing her butt to soothe the pain from where she’d fallen, Fin never saw nor heard Edward step behind the bar. All she knew was that the alcohol was safe… and she was on the floor. It was comfy down here, really comfy, apart from the dull throb that came from her left butt cheek. That was proof she needed more cushioning there.
At the sound of the Australian accent echoing through the air, Fin rolled onto her back, a frown etched on her features before it morphed into a drunkenly sloppy grin at the sight of the gorgeous land lord. ~Uhh are you okay?~ God bless Viv, that pasty skinned, goodie two shoes, butter wouldn’t melt in her mouth girl. She had brought her here and got Ed to take care of her. She really should do this again, and again…… and again.
She was all ready to tell him she was all the better for him being here, when three words sunk in. Three words that sent a cold chill down her spine and transformed the smile on her face into an expression of disgust. ~sobering you up~ Fin’s favourite catchphrase came to mind at his offer. Screw. That. Cradling the bottle closer to her, Fin scooted backwards with a force and speed that could only be got by a drunk who was so hammered they couldn’t feel the pain it caused their muscles. “No…” She fixed him with a heated glare, what was it with people and what she did to herself. Was it his problem? No. “Mmm not in trouble… Mm drunk. And ifIwanted to sub… suber up… no…”
In her head it made perfect sense, she wasn’t in trouble, she was just drunk and had passed out. And if she’d wanted to sober up, why would she have drank? So thanks, but no thanks. Sober meant feeling and feeling was bad. She had just wanted a night away from everything, from school, from the work she had to do. She raised her arm, extending her hand out, palm outstretched in front of Edward, as though it would protect her from his spell... it might not, but she knew someone who might and she was not above getting her, "VIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIV!" ............[/blockquote]

The few anxious seconds that Vivian waited for Ed to arrive felt at least a thousand times longer. When he finally opened the door she felt a pang of relief as well as guilt. Oh good, so everything would be okay now. Fin would get fixed up and could go back to school and everything would be fine. But at the same time, he had very obviously just been dragged out of bed after another long day dealing with idiot drunks just to deal with another idiot drunk – no offence to Fin.
Vivian nodded when he repeated her question and followed him down the stairs at a safe distance. She was in no particular hurry to go back down there again. A dull thud from downstairs though made her speed up to check out what had just happened. Vivian sucked in a breath at the realisation that Fin wasn’t where she’d left her.
Ohmigosh! Where had she gone!
“She was right there!” Vivian exclaimed, pointing pathetically at the table where Fin had been last seen. Oh great. If they couldn’t find the girl now, Viv was just going to look like an idiot for calling Ed down for nothing.
Oh well, maybe it wasn’t as bad as all that. They could find her and then just... How much trouble could a drunk really get into when unsupervised for a few moments?
... Okay, bad question.
A giggle from behind the bar quickly answered the mystery. Vivian breathed a sigh in relief. Okay, so Fin hasn’t gotten far and Ed was on the scene. Good. She continued following the bartender as he made his way to the source of the noise while making a point to keep out of his way. Oh well. She was glad it was about to be over, but at the same time she was half glad that something had happened to break up the monotony of the night. Being by yourself for hours was hardly entertaining.
Crudmuffins. Why did she always have to speak think too soon? Edward's words seemed to put the fear of God into Fin and in the next second the girl was scurrying away and shrieking at the top of her lungs. The noise had Vivian cringing and almost shoving her fingers in her ears.
Ow! Supernatural hearing!
“Okay! Okay!” she replied hurriedly, walking over to Ed and lightly grabbing his arm. Or, what she assumed was lightly. Her perception of her own strength was severely off at the best of times. “Maybe ve could just let her sleep it off or somesing? Do you haff another room?” she proposed with a worried look at Fin. Honestly, she had no idea what she was supposed to do to help the girl.

When one was still groggy and tired from being woken up from a restful sleep one’s patience tended to wear thin pretty quickly. This is exactly what Ed was like and his patience was most certainly wearing out fast with both Finlay and Vivian. The man just wanted to go to bed but instead he now had to deal with a drunken teenager who looked as though the idea of being sobered up was scarier than death itself. ”This is for your own good, you’ll thank me in the morning,” the Australian sighed, readying his wand. He’d heard the begging and the drunken rambling before; sobering up was the best way to fix that.
Just before he could cast the spell he felt someone grip solidly onto his arm. ”Okay, okay I won’t just let go of my arm Viv. Please,” the man replied sharply to the vampire who was now by his side. As much as he loved the girl her supernatural grip hurt at times. ”There are no rooms, this is peak tourist season. The only alternative I can think of is either your room or the basement. I think you can sort it out from here, I’m tired and just want to go back to bed,” Ed said exasperatedly, subtly moving back towards the stair case. ”Oh, and please take the alcohol off her. If she drinks anymore she has to pay for it.”

This girl said they'd known each other in Hogwarts, fine, as long as she kept Ed from casting that spell they were best friends and boy was she glad to see her now. The words coming from the pair took a moment longer to register than normal. Who the hell did he think he was? Who was he to tell her how she'd feel in the morning? Damn adults, thought they knew best. Did he really think she would have got in this state if she didn't want to be?
They were blabbering about rooms now, basements and something else. Fin kept her eyes focussed on Ed, meanie that he was. She used to think he was cool, how wrong she was. As he moved off, Fin watched him like a hawk, a hawk who'd downed far too much... so it wasn't that great. She crawled onto her hands and knees, using all her energy to kneel up so she could peer over the bar at him, her bloodshot eyes seeing him stood by the stairs. "You didn't tell me he was a such a dick..." She aimed at Viv, her eyes flashing to the vampire for a moment, "He's mean, like really mean. And not at all hot."
Just to spite what he had said, she dramatically raised the bottle to her lips, knocked back a few mouthfuls and poked her tongue out at him. She turned her attention to Viv, "You said he'd be cool..." |

Sometimes.”
Now what was she supposed to do? All she’d done was try and help someone, but now Ed looked pissed with her and she didn’t know what to do about Fin and arrgh this was all her fault! Again. What had she done wrong? But she couldn’t have left Fin in the street either!
She wanted Scotty. He always knew what to do when there was trouble and now that he was away, Vivian was feeling far more lost than usual.
Fin defiantly started knocking back more of the bottle. She could always just go in there and snatch it off her, but that would just make things worse wouldn’t it? She didn’t want Fin to get angry at her because then there’d be nothing to stop her running outside again. And, subconsciously, Vivian really didn’t want to be disliked.
... Looked like Fin’s bottle of rum was coming out of her salary then. Oh bother. What had she gone and gotten herself into?
“Everysing vill be okay,” Vivan assured, desperately searching her mind for any idea of what she could possibly do with Fin next. There were no more rooms at the Hog, and there was no way she was going to let Fin be forced to sleep in the basement. Even if she could afford to pay for a room at the Three Broomsticks everyone there already knew that Fin was a student so they couldn’t get away with that idea.
That just left... her room.
It wasn’t like she needed it at night, Vivian guessed. But then, Fin was rather drunk. Vomit on the carpet wasn’t a thrilling idea. It wasn’t as though the girl had anywhere else to go though, was it?
“I sink I haff a place for you to sleep,” Vivian proposed nervously, gesturing at the staircase Ed had just disappeared up. “Vant to haff a look?”

Though her reasons were far different from Vivian's. How sordidly twisted this all was. Fin knew of Viv from school, but she had no idea she was the girlfriend of her best friend... the same best friend she was infatuated with. Same, Viv had no idea Fin was her beloved Scotty's best friend. It was all so messed up.
Fin sniffed gently, she didn't like this. She didn't want to stay here but she didn't want to go back to the school either. If she went back to school, she could get caught, but if she stayed here, there was every chance that Ed would sneak up and sober her up. If only she hadn't passed out in the street, she'd be tangled in some guy's sheets, forgetting everything that was bugging her. From what she could remember, he had been pretty alright looking. She could have had fun tonight, and this wasn't even close to fun. And now she was about to cry, she was about to be weak and cry.
Dragging herself to her feet, Fin rummaged in her back pocket, pulling out a note and laying it on the table. It was the last of the money she had brought out tonight and it would more than cover what she had drank. Placing the bottle down on the bar, she wiped at her eyes, and cleared her vision as she looked away. Viv wouldn't see her cry. She wouldn't let it happen. I sink I haff a place for you to sleep Fin's eyes followed Viv's gaze to the stairs. She was still being so nice to her, and Fin knew she really didn't deserve it. With another sniffled sob, Fin nodded her head at her question. She wanted to sleep now. She just wanted to dive into that dark chasm of unconsciousness and forget about it all.
Following Viv, Fin was completely different now. Meek and solemn, she supported herself by keeping a hand on the wall as they climbed the stairs. Once in Viv's room, Fin silently pulled her shoes off, her trousers and her top before climbing beneath the sheets. She wasn't shy of her body, though she was bordering on being too skinny, but she wasn't sleeping in wet clothes. Her head hit the pillow and she sniffled again, "Thanks... Viv..." It was broken with a yawn, before the darkness claimed her. |
