Height: 5’9”
Build: Wiry with strong if not prominent muscles. Poll dancing will do that for you.
Wand: 10 inches, oak, unicorn hair. Surprisingly good for hexes and other attack spells, though not so good for defence or anything delicate.
Patronus: Maned wolf. Solitary, yet symbiotic. All he needs to think of is his family. The good half of it.
Boggart: Jaiden’s boggart varies depending on his mental state. When he’s feeling pretty content in himself, it appears as rats, mice, and any other hideous rodent his brain can conjure up. He really, really hates rodents. They just squick him out. When he’s less secure in himself, it appears as various members of his family. His mum or aunt in pain, physical or emotional, dieing or dead, while the rest of his family laugh, or thrive, or don’t even notice.
Dementor: Jay has a whole host of bad memories that’d flash before his eyes if he encountered a dementor, but by fare the strongest and most painful ones are of his early child hood and his gradual realisation that his family wasn’t what he thought it was
Amortentia: Cinnamon, shoe polish and fabric softener
Nicknames: Jay, Fletch, JJ at work.
Clothing Style: Jay’s clothing style varies wildly depending on the situation you find him in; When he’s at Scores, he’ll be wearing something provocative and easily removed, and he wont be wearing it for long. If he’s at Nym’s his clothing style is fairly subdued, mainly consisting of cargo pants or jeans and a vest top or t-shirt, although sometimes, if he gets bored, he’ll paint tribal markings over whatever exposed bits of skin he can find. It helps customers feel they’re in an authentic house of voodoo, as well. When he’s actually being himself, Jay’s clothing style is on the camp side of causal. He’s a fan of hats, carved and gloves, and isn’t afraid to accessorise to the max.

Pensieve: Jaiden was born into what appeared, in the eyes of a new born child, to be a perfectly happy family. His parents, Elsie and Ferdinand, were never anything but caring, and having an older sister to play with/torment is always a valuable commodity for a growing child. For the first few years of his life, Jaiden grew up a happy child, chasing his drawings around the page with his crayon trying to colour them in, covering various household items in spellotape, dreaming of being everything from an auror or an astronaut.
It was only when Jay got to about 5 years old that things really started going wrong. His parents started arguing more, Angelika started making snide comments - or as snide as a 10 year old can be - and Jay gradually came to the realisation that his family wasn’t as happy as he’d once thought it was. Where as before he’d liked both his parents pretty much equally, he began growing closer to his mother, seeing his father, rightly or wrongly, as being the cause of the discord.
Things came to a head when Jaiden was seven. His father walked out, taking Angelika with him, and his mother was left distraught. But it didn’t end there. Ferdinand was prepared to fight for everything he believed himself entitled to - the house, care of the children, even trying to take a share in the business Elsie was only just setting up. The entire process all but destroyed her, leaving her all but penniless and without anywhere to live.
It was then that they moved in with Jay’s aunt Clementine. Jaiden had only met Tina a few times that he could remember - she had been a large part of his life when he was younger, but as things had started breaking down between his parents Ferdinand had all but bared her from the house. Elsie and Clementine were the daughters of an American witch and wizard who’d moved to England when they’d got married. While Elsie adapted to more mainstream wizarding culture, Clementine, as well as her parents, stayed steeped in the magical practices they had kept in America. Namely voodoo.
Jaiden was fascinated by it. Perhaps part of him knew how much his father would dislike his involvement in it, but it was mainly to do with how alive it felt. He’d grown up surrounded by magic, sure, but he’d never been a part of it, it had just been something that happened in the world around him. Voodoo, however, was entirely different. There was something so earthy, so real about it and it spoke to him in a way charms never would.
For the next few years, this didn’t pose a problem. Although Elsie had moved onto conventional wizarding practices, she was open minded about the whole thing, and didn’t mind in the slightest that Jay was taking an interest in and, in some cases, joining in with Tina’s voodoo spell work. Plus, Else had to spend a fair bit of time away from the two of them - trying to sort out her own house and re-launch her business, things that were vital if she ever wanted to stand on her own to feet again, so for the few years before he started Hogwarts, Jay was brought up by his aunt and surrounded by magic he actually liked.
All that changed when he actually started at the wizarding school. Not only was voodoo not a part of the curriculum, the entire practice was frowned on by both students and teachers alike. Although he’d never been particularly outgoing, Jaiden was always perfectly amiable and as kind as he could be, but the stigma of being the schools Voodoo Boy seemed to put most people off him. He did however make a firm friend in fellow class mate Holly Alderbury, who was one of the few people able to see past what everyone else thought of him.
The first few years at Hogwarts were tough on Jaiden. Angelika was still there, 5 years above him, and did all she could do stop other people finding out they were related, something his father seemed happy to help her with. School work was hard, especially things that required a wand, and even though Holly, who was incredibly bright, always did her best to help him, he never managed to get above an Acceptable in any of his subjects.
Things only really started to rearrange themselves in his OWL year. At first it looked like it was heading for the better - he and Holly had started dating over the summer, he’d developed a winder friendship network, and everything had seemed that little bit brighter since Angelika had graduated. Unfortunately, this new streak of bright sides didn’t last very long. It all started with an advertisement for a dancer-cum-waiter at one of the less reputable local clubs - nothing too seedy, he’d keep his clothes on, but the very idea of it sent shivers up Jaiden’s spine, and he knew he was going to apply. He could do with the money - it wasn’t like his mum could afford to give him pocket money - and it would feel so much like sticking two fingers up at his father, who was appearing more and more often in the Daily Prophet as he climbed his way up the Ministry.
Jay and several other people were hired. It was only part time, two or three nights a week, but if his grades had been bad before, they suffered even more without the extra time Holly was putting into tutoring him. She got suspicious about where he was going and offended that he seemed to be rejecting her help. She felt he was holding her back - after all, she had her own grades to worry about, and, in her words, she actually stood a chance of passing. Not willing to divulge where he spent his evenings and feeling more and more distant from the person he’d known when he’d first started at Hogwarts, Jay did nothing as their relationship fell apart.
The next few years passed in a faintly surreal blur. His job was getting lewder by the week, although he had gradually ceased to care. He didn’t feel embarrassed or uncomfortable with it - in fact he enjoyed it far more than he did his time at school. He became even more detached from the few friends he had left, and by the time he got to his NEWTs his grades were even worse than they had been at OWL level. With very few qualifications and a steady, if part time job, there weren’t all that many options for Jay. He took more hours at the club, by then being able to aparate from home to work.
It was around that time that he met Richard. Richard, was cool, confident, sexy, and the fact that hung around in seedy clubs was completely incidental. He also happened to be 15 years Jay’s senior, but that was incidental, too. The point was, Jaiden was smitten. He’d had very little experience with love - what he and Holly had had was more companionate, and though he loved his mum, aunt and grandparents, it wasn’t really the same. His relationship with Richard was intense and fast paced and everything a good, stable relationship shouldn’t be. It wasn’t long before they moved in together and Jay quit his job in favour of being kept by Richard, who clearly had more money than sense.
The cracks started showing about four months after he moved in, but they managed to struggle on together for a year and a half before things came to a fairly cataclysmic end. They’d both spent weeks screaming and shouting at each other on and off, punctuated by periods of ignoring each other and childishness from Jay’s end of things. Richard would point that out, telling him he was too immature, that he was acting like a kid. Jaiden would tell Richard that he was a kid, that he was young, and Richard used to like that, so what the fuck had changed. Jay was clingy and Richard was uncaring and the whole thing ended up with Jaiden back at his mum’s house sobbing uncontrollably into her shoulder.
It took Jay all of a week to pull himself together. His life and been sliding down hill for years, and it was about time it started going his way again. It was actually his aunt Tina that suggested he take a trip, spend some time enjoying himself, discovering things before he launched himself straight back into life. His Grandpa Cosmo had moved back to the states to work years before, he and his wife Augustina using floo powder to continue their relationship even though they’d both retired by then. Everyone chipped in to help finance the trip, despite Jay’s protests, and he started off staying with Cosmo for a few weeks, learning about voodoo practices, before setting off abound the southern States, South America and Africa.
When Jaiden returned, he was 23, and a changed man, as if the time he’d spent away had repaired all the years of emotional damage. Or patched it up, at least. He was more determined than ever to pursue a life he actually wanted, not what other people wanted for him. After a lot of searching he came across Nym’s House of Voodoo, only a shop in itself, but run by Kayla Nym, a woman who was know for her prowess in the art. Once he’d sensed the opportunity, Jaiden wasn’t going to let it slip away. He owled her, asking for an apprenticeship, and was delighted when she said she’d give him a provisional one, if he came down to London to work along side her in the shop.
Of course, part time work in an voodoo shop didn’t provide nearly enough income for Jay to live on, especially not in London, which was how he ended up working in Scores. It was something he could do, and his previous experience all but guaranteed him a job. So for the last three years Jaiden’s been living in London, working his jobs, and life has been enjoyable but uneventful.

Mirror of Erised: Jay’s deepest desire is that voodoo could be accepted into mainstream wizarding society. He wishes he could study it properly, instead of just bits here and there when he isn’t busy working two jobs. He doesn’t hate his work as a stripper - if it was really that bad, he’d just give it up - but he does wish he didn’t have to do it on top of his other job. He enjoys the dance and the athletic aspect of it, but its tiring, and the people can be a lot of hassle
In Depth Personality:
Sarcastic: Jaiden’s first line of defence is to respond to everything with sarcasm. It gets thicker if he doesn’t like you, but even his friend are subjected to a fair about of it. Unfortunately he’s in a line of work where is really not a good idea to say yes when you mean no.
Pragmatic: Jay’s very good at keeping his head in a crisis and generally managed to work out the best way to resolve any sticky situations, be it a friend who’s spilt coffee down eher dress for that evening, or something a bit more serious.
Kind: Its not difficult to inspire kindness in Jaiden. He’s always generous with his time and aid, be it for friends, or people he hardly knows. He lives by the principle “do as you would be done by”, and if he was struggling up to his door with an armful of shopping, he’d like to think that someone would help him out. However, when people start harassing him, it doesn’t take long for the sarcasm to roll out, andhe has very little time for people who don’t repay kindness in kind.
Versatile: If Jay takes a knock, to his ego, self esteem, anything, he tends to spring right back up. Some things hurt more than others, but for the most part, he doesn’t let what other people think bother him.
Secretive: It’s not intentional, but Jaiden doesn’t tend to let other people learn too much about him. He’s not one for spilling his guts when he feel sad, or getting over excited about things that really matter. He’ll quite easily squeal about shoes, but if something really hurt him, you could spend hours around him and never notice.
Sociable: Jay tends to feed off the energy of a group - if other people are upbeat and excited, he will be, too. He’s not so good at spending time with people one on one, not if he doesn’t know them well, and its hard for him to maintain a good mood if he’s not around people in some capacity
