Feeling tired from the Ball, Steph was having trouble focussing on the board. She felt she could get away with it though, seen as how Potions was her best lesson. She couldn't help but feel her eyes droop when she was supposed to be looking at the board. However, she felt fairly confident that when it came to making the potion her brain should kick into some kind of fear.
But her tiredness wasn't the only thing affecting her concentration levels. Charlie was too. No matter how hard she tried to push him to the back of her mind (so she could get him out in a lesson she didn't care about) he kept forcing his way forward. Not that she minded much, it was just a little distracting when she was trying to show Hogwarts that she was of use in some lessons. If only she had enough self control to keep Charlie aside until Transfiguration, which she had next.
She sighed as she, once again, tried to re-focuss her eyes on the board. All around her people were taking copies of the board;s instructions, something which she felt she should be doing. With no great sense of hurry, Steph took her quill out of its ink pot and started to copy down the notes. She wrote in her best handwriting, finding that something had finally distracted her. Only problem was that it distracted her to the point where she had no idea what she was meant to do, and her teacher had finished lecturing. All around her, the rest of the class seemed to be doing things.
Turning to the person who sat next to her, Steph asked (as quietly as she could), "Ur... What are we doing?" She tried not to sound too annoying, Steph was fairly sure quite a few people in this class disliked her for her casual approach to learning and still being amazing at the subject. "I must have zoned out or something. Sorry." She stuck an apology on there, just in case.

When Hazel had arrived in class just in time, she glanced around for a seat, and took the empty seat next to a Gryffindor girl she didn’t really know. Hazel never had any problems sitting where there was an empty seat however, and she quickly settled in. She glanced over the board, and listened to what the professor was telling her. Well this lesson didn’t seem too bad. This was not one of her better classes, but she was still passing. She jotted down her notes, re-reading them as she went to make sure it made sense.
"Ur... What are we doing?"
Hazel blinked, and it took her a moment to realize that her table mate was talking to her. She turned to the girl, offering her a brief smile before tilting her quill towards the board. “Copy down the notes, and ingredient list, and then try and create the potion.” She replied hoping that would answer the girls’ question.
"I must have zoned out or something. Sorry."
“No worries, it happens.” Hazel assured her. She finished jotting down the notes, and quickly went over them just to make sure. “This always takes me so long.” She muttered. She had been known to overlook and ingredient or too in the past, and cause a huge mess. She had been advised to start re-reading all her notes to make sure that she had all the material she needed.

Luck was on Steph's side, the brunette next to her seemed to be fair nice. And she'd been paying attention. Steph snuck a quick look at the notes she'd been jotting down throughout the lesson and compared them to her scrawl. And by scrawl she meant the title. She hadn't really written down that much. "Cheers." She said, whilst attempting to scribble down everything she should have written in a few seconds. It was next to illegable when she'd finished, though her handwriting wasn't particularly neat at the best of times. Only when she really tried hard did it become readable.
The ingredient list she had on her parchement was one she knew well, and Steph gave an inner sigh of relief. At least it wouldn't be something too taxing. This was one of the repeat lessons, because in the last few times there'd been a few explosions causing a loss of eyebrows. Steph's, of course, had been perfect first time - but not everyone had the same natural flair she did for Potions. Not even she knew where it came from, she just hoped it wouldn't go!
"Tell me about it!" Steph said with a smile. "Worth it though, the ball last night was brilliant." She almost distracted herself again with thoughts of the ball and Charlie, but her new found awareness of her table buddy pulled her out before she got in too deep. Steph watched her go over her notes with a somewhat cynical look on her face, having to concentrate in this lesson always flummouxed her a little. "What always takes so long?"
While she talked and waited for an answer, Steph gathered what she needed for the potion, barely even looking at it. It was no wonder people in this lesson often despised her, considering she barely even bothered sometimes. Though, having said that, she did put more effort in Potions that most other lessons - despite how easy that was, for she put no effort in the other lessons - because she wanted to do well in the lesson. Looking at her neighbour, an idea hit her. "Do you want some help?" The amount of concentration on her face when looking at that list indicated soem sort of problem.

Hazel groaned silently when she realized which potion this was. She had managed to almost get it the last time, and managed to escape with her eyebrows intact. Her tablemate had not been so lucky. She went over the list one more time and made sure she could actually read her notes. The last thing she needed was to lose her eyebrows, or blow something up. She wasn’t skilled enough to draw on eyebrows until some grew back, and lord knows she would either walk around all day with frizzed out hair, or manage to wrestle it back into an awkward looking pony tail.
"Tell me about it! Worth it though, the ball last night was brilliant."
“Yes it certainly was.” Hazel agreed. She hadn’t stayed in one place for to long during the ball. She floated around meeting up with plenty of different people. She hadn’t gone with a date, and she had actually preferred it that way, she wasn’t tied down to any one particular person.
"What always takes so long?"
Hazel looked up startled before realizing she must have said it out loud and loud enough for the other girl to hear. “Just..checking and rechecking. This isn’t my best class is all. I would like to avoid a major catastrophe if at all possible.” Once she was certain she had the list down, she gathered the ingredients, being supremely careful to get the right items. When her tablemate asked if she wanted some help Hazel glanced back over at her.
“I’m not sure yet…maybe.” She admitted. “I’m Hazel by the way.” She said when she realized she had never given the girl her name.

Looking round the slight state of unease on her classmates' faces, Steph silently pondered how many the nurse would be seeing later just begging for their eyebrows back. She tried so hard not to laugh when she saw those bald brows, but sometimes Steph just couldn't contain it. She vowed to behave this lesson, maybe even let her tiredness wash completely over (once she was finished of course, Steph rather liked her eyebrows) so she'd be too spaced out to even notice. It sounded like a plan - she History, or whatever it was called, next and she could just fall asleep.
Steph didn't have a date for the ball either, but had spent most of the night with Charlie. She met up with Ame and the other members of the team a couple times, but it really had been a Charlie fest. And a dance fest, Steph's feet ached still. That may have been from dancing in heels though. Whenever she did, Steph always found some new found respect for her Ma who danced just as well in heels as she did flats, and never had aching feet the next day. It was amazing!
"Checking and re-checking?" The concept confused Steph a little. She never checked and re-checked notes in the lessons she wasn't good at (maybe because there were no notes) because she just didn't care about them. But then again, the worst that can happen in the lessons she despised was a huge book falling on your feet. It was a little different in Potions. "Fair enough. But, maybe you should worry less. Then you won't be so tense, so if there is a catastrophe it's easier to duck. The more worried you are the more likely you are to blow something up." It was true, Steph had seen it happen many a time.
Steph raised an eyebrow at her table mate. [/b]"If you're not sure, I think you need help."[/b] She said with a slight giggle. Steph's general rule of thumb was, if there was any doubt then you needed help or to not do something (depending on the situation). "I'm Steph." She said in reply to Hazel giving her name, with a friendly smile. The girl quickly turned to her potion to add a couple ingredients and give it a stir before turning back to Hazel to help her if she wanted it.

Hazel, who had never really been one for dressing up, had agreed to wear a dress, but refused to wear the heels that her mother had sent to her. Instead she wore some basic flats that looked nice. She had wanted to wear some sneakers, but thought better of it at the last moment. She had an overall good time, but she had no idea what to do with the dress now. It was currently folded very neatly and carefully in her trunk. Her attention was brought back to the other girl when she spoke.
"Checking and re-checking? Fair enough. But, maybe you should worry less. Then you won't be so tense, so if there is a catastrophe it's easier to duck. The more worried you are the more likely you are to blow something up."
“Oh, I’ve never actually blown anything up.” Hazel assured the other girl with a grin; she had made it through all her potions classes with all her hair and body parts intact. “I just want to do well in the class, and figure the more cautious you are, the better it’ll go.” Not everyone had a flair for potions, as she well knew, but she figured she would do the best she could, she hoped to get a good grade in this class.
"If you're not sure, I think you need help.”
“Nah, you only need help once you admit defeat.” Hazel responded with a laugh.“Unless I feel I’m in immediate danger of loosing my eyebrows, I think I’ll be ok.” She grinned.“Nice to meet you Steph.” She tacked on when the other girl introduced herself. She began to carefully assemble her potion. She hadn’t done to terribly with this one the first time; she didn’t think she would do too terribly the second time around.
((Don't worry about it, If you haven't seen my thread in the absence thread, I've been sick, so I'll be kinda slow))

Dressing up was somewhat of a not-so-guilty pleasure for Steph. She loved any opportunity to dress up - what was life if you didn't get to look spiffing every now and then? Plus, it made her look prettier. And that was always a good thing. Steph liked to feel and look pretty. It was good for the self esteem and such; and (for lacking of a better word) nice. And heels just made things all the better because you could be pretty and tall! Steph found it hard to see the aversion to heel. Yes they were hard to walk in, and they made your feet hurt like buggery... Ok, so she could see the aversion, but pain is beauty - or something to that effect.
Steph chuckled. "That's good to hear. Didn't fancy becoming eyebrow-less at someone else's hand." She was joking, of course (well, not really, that would be horridious!), as to not make her table mate feel uncomfortable. She considered the other girl's words for a moment before shrugging. She'd never had to be that cautious because Potions came naturally to her. But it seemed fair enough, which she said. "Fair enough." The wanting to do well was an attitude Steph really should adopt for other lessons, but she just really didn't care enough.
Once again, Steph laughed. She liked this girl, Hazel. She was funny, and knew how to send herself up. People that took themselves too seriously were horrendous to be around. Steph was always willing to be laughed at, she was usually the main contender! "Well, I'm here if you admit defeat." Steph stirred her potion a little, and yawned. Repeat lessons were a bore. She was tempted to add something to another's potion to make it explode or give the student green skin or something. Maybe if Hazel got to a point where she could leave her potion she would join in? Who knows. Right now, all Steph could do for entertainment was mentally mock those around her. (An actual guilty pleasure.)
((ooc - *promises to get better with replies* Sometimes it's business, most of the time it's tired/laziness >.<))

Hazel was to low maintenance to care much about getting dressed up or make up. As it was the only make up she wore was the light pink lip gloss she wore on a daily basis. Not to say that Hazel didn’t have her girly quirks, she loved pink and wore it as often as possible and her heart necklace that she rarely took off. Other than that however, Hazel was not often known for her girly tendencies. She could more likely be found in the middle of a sports game than fiddling with her appearance.
"That's good to hear. Didn't fancy becoming eyebrow-less at someone else's hand."
Hazel grinned before shaking her head slightly. “I saw one girl who lost her eyebrows, her friends were able to patch her up fairly well, and it was almost un noticeable. I myself, I’m sure would just walk around eyebrow-less since I have no idea how to draw them on…or it would just be really obviously drawn on.” She took a few minutes to begin her potion. She hadn’t done particularly badly on their first go round on this lesson; she didn’t think she would have an incident this time around either.
"Well, I'm here if you admit defeat."
“Thank you.” Hazel said with a grin before glancing around. “Are we repeating this lesson because of the great eyebrow disaster?” She asked, deciding that would be a good name for it. Just a few people lost them really; she didn’t see what the big fuss was about. She knew once she got the potion underway and it was going well, she’d probably end up bored. This unfortunately was one of those lessons she could not afford to slack off in though, she wasn’t doing as well in Potions as she wanted to be doing.
{OOC-Don't worry about it. I know what it's like to be busy and rather uninspired}

Low maintenance was the last thing Steph would be described as. She really was anything but. Everything was a drama, everything had to sparkle and everything had to somehow involve her. Which was reflected in the way she dressed, though possibly not so much when in her uniform. She did, however, often sneak more necklaces than she was allowed - and of course she had the dark eyeshadow with a hint of glitter. The glitter was very important. And so much more interesting than sport! Steph was fair shallow when it came down to it.
"I would not trust anyone else with my eyebrows!" Steph scoffed. She was vain as well as shallow. "Never draw on eyebrows!" Steph was almost horrified by the idea. She'd never even think to draw them on. "It's too easy to make yourself look like a hooker. Especially if you have no idea how to do it." Steph would rather risk a spell to bring them back than draw on eyebrows. Though, she would have to make sure she didn't lose hair from elsewhere - that would be worse than looking like a hooker. Steph had an image to maintain - it was harder work than it looked. The girl was verging on OCD with the way she handled her appearance. 'Perfectionist' had often been thrown about when talking to her Ma.
Steph nodded - happy with her random act of generosity for the day. She laughed, also happy to see that her table buddy had a sense of humour. So many lessons were made worse by the fact that she was sat with boring students. "Well yes." Thinking back to their previous lesson it was hard to remember how many eyebrows had been lost - the hysteria that ensued afterwards made it seem a little worse than it had been. Everyone was fussing because of the ball - 'Oh they won't be back before the ball!' and more along that vain. Steph had laughed. Cruel she knew, but it was funny!
But now there was no source of entertainment for her - it seemed everyone was being extra cautious. Steph sighed, not even looking at her potion. It was fine, she knew exactly what to do and she didn't need to poke it for another ten minutes at least. "Say," Steph turned to Hazel, "want to cause some mayhem?"
