There was no logical reason for Seth to be doing this. Ever.
Cypress fucking Brown had dared him to do it. That was the only reason he was there, the only reason his school robes lay on the side of the Black Lake. The only reason he had climbed in the lake with nothing on. Because a guy he hated told him to.
Well if Cy was going to throw himself off the Astronomy Tower, this was worth it. Besides he hardly had to stay in for more than a minute. Time scale had hardly been in the deal at all. Nor was anybody there to judge if he'd done it. But he would know. And he'd live his life knowing that Cypress Brown could not beat him. That, in itself, was worth it. Even if the asshole didn't believe he'd done it.
Seth had slipped into the freezing water, wincing at the very temperature of it. His glasses nearly falling off his face. It was late, it was dark, and it was bloody freezing. Why couldn't he have just done it during the heat of the day? Not that existed any more. Raising his currently dry hand to his face, he pushed his glasses back onto the bridge of his nose. He hated them as an invention, but he couldn't wear his contacts all the time. That would murder his eyes even more. Deciding he was better off without them in teh water, he threw them towards his clothes and went blindly on into the water.
Finally allowing his entire body under the water, he ran his fingers threw his hair. What else did he have to lose. He was already butt naked in the water. He'd done what Cy had told him to. Now he was going back to the warmth of the Hufflepuff Common Room.
Making his way gingerly over to the side, he looked around before running over the last of the edge. Hands covering himslef to give him the decency he craved, and grabbing at his towel when he reached his belongings.
"Bloody hell it's cold!

Abe was stuck with patrolling the grounds again. Much to his annoyance Samantha Port had organised an Astronomy lesson to coincide with her turn to do the grounds circuit and surprisingly enough his name had been the one signed up to replace her by the simple expedient of being the last into the Staff Room when they were making the decision. It was so unfair! He was sure Samantha had done it on purpose too. Like seeing Mars cross Venus in the sky was actually something the students need to map. It would just be one indistinguishable dot passing over a second indistinguishable dot.
He trudged along, pace slow and his hands shoved deep into his pockets to stave of the cold. It was almost time for curfew and so it was his job round up the last stragglers left outside and usher them back to their common rooms. Not that he could understand why anybody would want to be outside now, it was bitterly cold where as inside there were fireplaces and hot coffee. Two things Abe considered essential to his happiness and wellbeing. He was nearing the lake now, the surface looked black and almost glassy, reflecting the dusky sky almost perfectly.
Abe frowned as he spotted a pale figure rising from the water. For a moment he thought it was one of the murpeople, then he remembered they didn't have legs and he blinked hard, peering through the gloom to get a better look. Was that a student?!" Abe hurried over, looking rather perplexed. Really the pupils of Hogwarts never seemed to stop surprising him with what mad stunts they'd pull. He'd thought he'd seen it all when he was at school, but they were getting more inventive and reckless every year. Only the other day Iris Langdon had turned up to breakfast in her underwear.
As he got closer he recognised the student that had decided to go skinny dipping in the lake. "Seth?" Abe blurted, eyebrows shooting up in surprise. "What on earth do you think you're doing?" He asked, more curious than really angry. Seth Hevulen was the last person he'd expected to see taking a swim in the Black Lake. Then the reality of the situation hit him and Abe let out a kind of strangled choking sound. Towel or no, students were not supposed to be naked in front of their professors. "You're nak... Why?" He cut himself off before he could stutter even more and swiftly turned his back on the boy. "Could you put some clothing on please?"

Seth swore quietly to himself, rolling his eyes before turning around, still in his towel to see his Head of House. "Fuck, fuck, FUCK!"[/b] revolved around in his head again and again, clenching his towel tighter around his waist. "Professor?" he barely managed to make audible, his usually quiet voice betraying its own natural volume somewhat more. He cleared his throat slightly before feeling his entire body go bright red. At least, that's what it felt like.
"Hi," he managed before grabbing at the pile of clothes at his feet, grabbing his school shirt and trying his hardest to pull it over his wet arms, and failing miserably. "I'm just doing a care, sir, I'm gunna, uh," he paused finally managing to one handedly get his shirt on and do up a fleeting number of buttons. It was quite impossible, "I'll, uh," he cleared his throat, "I'll get dressed now,"[/b] he said grabbing at his boxers.
Things would be so much easier if he could see. So he fumbled around for his glasses, he knew he'd thrown them their some where. Oh that was embarrassing. At least he'd have back up now when it came to proving to Brown that he'd done it. "Sorry, uh," he fumbled around for his glasses once more, coming across the cool metal of the frames and slamming them onto his face with force. Now he could see properly he pulled his boxers on straight before dropping his towel to put on his trousers.
"Okay, you can turn back around now," he said with as much courage as he could muster, picking his over robe off the floor and swinging it around his shoulder. At least he was warmer now.

Abe wasn't really sure if Seth had turned red with embarrassment or the cold. Either way the solution was to turn his back so that his student could get dressed as quickly possible, that and it had the bonus of not catching a glimpse of Hevulen Junior. He fixed his eyes on point in the middle-distance, peering through the gloom to focus on the slope of one of the many lawns surrounding Hogwarts. With a wince he tried not to listen to the suspicious rustling sound of fabric and picture what was happening, merlin help him he'd need an obliviate charm if he started imagining his Hufflepuffs naked.
"A dare?" Abe asked, unable to suppress a small sigh, Hogwarts students were always doing stupid, insane stuff. Of course it was rather hypocritical of him as he'd been just as bad when he was at school, although by his sixth year he'd matured considerably. He really had thought Seth was more sensible than this, getting drawn into a game of dares especially when they seemed to be so extreme. "Seth," He pinched at the bridge of his nose unsure how to handle this. "You didn't have to do this you know. Especially when it involved personal risk.
"You could have been eaten by any number of magical creatures, the merpeople are very territorial you know. Not to mention the possible hypothermia." He broke off from his lecture about the various hazards of swimming in the lake as Seth told him he could turn around. Thankfully, and really not all that surprisingly, the Hufflepuff was dressed now, but he was also shivering and he looked a little blue around the lips. "Did you not think to dry off before getting dressed?" Abe asked, so much for being authoritative. Pulling out his wand he muttered a quick drying spell and conjured up a mug of hot chocolate and a chocolate crunchy cake (he happened to know Idris had a soft spot for the sweet drink, thanks to his handy ghost spy, and he would thank Fly for the cake later).

Seth had managed to roughly pull his clothes on, and despite still being more wet than dry, they were keeping him warmer than he otherwise would have been. It was the most uncomfortable he had ever been, down to both the situation and the fact his school shirt clung to him in all he wrong places, he just wanted to itch, and pull the fabric away from him. "It was fun whilst it lasted," he mumbled to stop his teeth from chattering too much against the cold. Pulling his cloak around him more.
This was the last time he participated in dares. Ever. He wasn't even going to ask a truth. He knew that would only end up in his eternal embarrassment too.
"To be honest sir, dressing was my main priority," he said, a small smile on his lips before an involuntary shiver caused the smile to go from his face in an instant. He grinned once the Professor had dried him, a cup of cocoa appear ing his hands acting as an instant heater to his ever cooling appendages. And food?
Weren't the Professors meant to be punishing them for doing dares? Not rewarding them? He dranksome of the warm liquid quickly, his gullet warming, sending that sensation through his entire body, making it warmer than it had appear to be before. Seth liked that feeling, "Thank you Professor."
