Those tears were a symbol of Tobias Steele's weakness. Sure, he was an intolerable asshole sometimes, but he often cried so easily if something really got to him. Joshua Callaghan.. he really got to him. By now, as those tears silently fell and Toby cried into Josh's chest, the older Gryffindor's shirt had to be getting a little damp in that particular spot. It wasn't a hard cry though, and Toby was really thankful for that.
As he felt Josh's lips on the top of his head, Toby shifted his weight a bit, long and untied back platinum blond locks shifting messily across his shoulders. He turned his head, placing his ear flat upon Josh's chest so that he could hear the other's heart beat. Toby let out a long, slow exhale, willing his own heart beat to slow down if applicable. It didn't seem to be working too much though, because he could still feel it beating obnoxiously.
What was going on? That's what Josh had asked only a few minutes prior, and Toby had simply responded with an 'I don't know'. He bit down onto his lip softly, brushing the tears from his eyes as he stared off into the distance. What did he want? Toby knew that it couldn't be just friendship anymore.. not after they'd been so sexual with each other. Josh wasn't the kind of person that could just sleep with someone and be so casual about it, Toby knew this much. Especially not someone he was in love with.
Even though Toby couldn't say that he loved Josh in that way, he knew that he loved Josh as a person despite what they'd been through. Toby just couldn't hate him like he could hate others.. and if they were going to salvage anything, they both needed to step out of their comfort zones. He knew that he had to try.. Lifting his head up, he looked at Josh, face a bit flushed from his tears. "Do you.. want to be with me, Josh?"

Joshua had stared off in the distance, not really seeing anything as Toby cried into his shirt. His own thoughts were troubling him, thoughts of what they were and where this would lead, questions that he couldn’t answer. Questions that Tobias hadn’t managed to answer either. He found that though he really wanted to know, he couldn’t bring himself to asking anything further at this point in time.
When Toby shifted his weight and looked at him, all Josh wanted was to wipe away those tears and never make him cry again. Instead he gently brushed over the boys flushed cheek, looking at him with warm brown eyes. He had never been able to truly hide everything, not even when they were fighting and he was doing all he could not to show his true feelings. At this point, he found that he didn’t want to either. If they couldn’t talk about this, the least he could do was show how he really felt.
"Do you.. want to be with me, Josh?"
The older Gryffindor frowned for a moment, pondering on how to answer that question. He wasn’t completely sure what his friend had meant. Was it a ‘do you want to or not?’ question or was he actually offering to be something more than they had been. Biting down on his bottom lip, he stayed silent for a minute or two, battling out something in his head. ”I do. If you...I mean...Yeah.” Regardless of how the question was meant, the answer was yes.

Toby could have guessed what Josh's answer was going to be, but when he heard it straight from those lips, it sent an odd sort of shiver down his spine. He swallowed gently, pushing his blond hair away from his eyes in a hasty and fruitless manner. It just moved right back in front of his face. He thought for a moment, mulling this over inside of his cloudy mind. A part of him wanted to be with Josh. But he was nervous, undeniably so, it shone through his pale features. If they tried to date, and it didn't work, would it ruin what they've only just barely managed to patch yet again?
After a few moments of silence, Toby lifted his salt glistened lips to place a gentle kiss on Josh's mouth. It was a leap of faith. Toby would have to, for once, close his eyes and leap out into the unknown if they ever wanted anything to be sorted out. Most importantly, he wanted to stop being so confused. He wanted to figure out exactly how he felt about Joshua Callaghan.
"Then we're together." He spoke softly. The usual smart ass grin, the cocky demeanor.. it was gone. Completely. "I've never been in a relationship before.." He thought about, for a moment, what people would think about this whole rape scandal and then the two coming out as a couple. It would be ultimate disaster.

Josh waited. Patiently, even though his heart was beating furiously in his chest. He knew that Toby’s head must be filled with thoughts (he would have added ‘for once’ if they had been in any other situation) and doubts and didn’t want to make him feel rushed or forced to come to a decision. When the other leaned in, pressing a salty kiss to his lips, he responded slowly, giving the younger boy ample opportunity to move away or do something else.
It was almost like handling a petrified animal, Joshua mused, a small smile playing around his lips. It increased when Toby softly stated that they were an item now, and softened when he added that he had never done this kind of thing before. He swallowed something thick that had been stuck in his throat, trembling fingers reaching out to rub the others cheek. ”It’s going to be tricky” He answered in nothing more than a whisper, not exactly sure why they were talking so softly, but feeling that it was right somehow. ”We’ll take it easy yea? There’s just one thing that really matters to me...and that’s being friends again. As long as we have that...then we’ll see what happens.”
He wasn’t going to ask for anything, mostly because he knew his friend. Toby was a fire cracker and they were equally close to getting into a huge fight as they were to getting closer. The only thing that mattered to Josh was the fact that the younger male had promised to do something about the rape story. It was the one promise that he would hold him to, if only to make things more easier on them as a couple. He’d stand by Toby once the truth was out, no matter what people thought.
