”You know what I mean? You guys were always hanging out and then I’m feeling like I’m stealing Jasper from you and I don’t want that.”
Rhys winced visibly at that, at the fact that Gale had pretty much put his thoughts into words and thrown them into the conversation like that. He rubbed at his face, toying with his hair for a moment. ”He wouldn’t allow you to steal him if he didn’t want to be stolen” The Ravenclaw answered softly, looking away at Jaspers unmade bed. Could he really do this? Could he forget about how intimate they’d been and just be Jaspers friend?
Gale was right in thinking that there was more than friendship, and at the same time he was so wrong. There had never been any sexual tension – at least not that he was aware of – and they had never even kissed, so to state that they were more than actual friends wasn’t in the least bit correct. However, to Rhys, Jasper had always meant more. He’d been the world, that one person that he could trust in everything. The one person that he never expected to leave.
Shrugging one shoulder, Rhys glanced at Gale around, leaning back as well to create a little more distance between them. Even in knowing that the other was a nice guy, it didn’t make things any easier. ”I probably expected too much.” People always left. Jasper had just managed to stick around longer than most had.

Seeing Rhys wince made Gale feel that much worse, apparently what he said was exactly what he was feeling like. He wasn’t sure what to say now in response, looking down at his sketchbook and folding down a bent corner, trying to smooth it back into its original place. The person that left Gale to be with their boyfriend was Gale’s best friend back from. It killed him to think about how close they were and then they just.. weren’t. Being the one to cause someone else that pain really wasn’t sitting well with the Hufflepuff.
He also had no idea how to fix it because he couldn’t fix his own similar problem. He watched Rhys lean back away from him wishing that Jasper might pop in at some moment because he skipped out of class early. He could probably help Rhys understand if he was willing to talk to his dorm-mate.
”I probably expected too much.”
”You shouldn’t have to say that about your friends..” he mumbled, getting a little down about the subject and he wasn’t too sure what else to say on the matter without making it worse, if he hadn’t already. He really wanted to go see Jasper now, both to be in a better mood and to see about prodding him in the right direction.

Rhys shrugged again when Gale mentioned he shouldn’t have to say those things about a friend. He was right, he shouldn’t have to, but he was. Getting to his feet, he realized he was still toying with his hair and stopped fidgeting, glancing at the Hufflepuff boy who was still sitting on Jaspers bed. Maybe things really did happen for a reason. As long as Gale made Jasper happy...well that was the main thing, wasn’t it? That his best friend, the one he loved more than anything, was happy.
It hurt, but he’d deal, wouldn’t he? Maybe it was time that he did talk to Jasper. Not right now though. Not when he still felt so vulnerable. No, right now he’d go back to his own bed, spend the afternoon there. He knew very well that he’d probably end up cutting, but it was at least an outlet. This talk with Gale...it just made him remember why he shouldn’t be around so much. Maybe it was time that he found other friends, that he wasn’t so dependent on Jasper anymore. Rhys wasn’t quite sure whether or not his best friend would understand, but that really wasn’t the issue here.
”Yea, you know what? I’m just...gonna go now. No offense, but I really don’t want to discuss this anymore.” Rhys tried to give Gale somewhat of a smile, though it faltered a little as he had to blink away the tears. Swallowing, he gave the Hufflepuff a small nod. ”I would say that I hope you two are happy, but I wouldn’t mean it. Not completely at least. So just...treat him right.” With that, he opened the door and left the room.

When the Ravenclaw said he didn't want to talk anymore, Gale opened his mouth to protest. Talking at least got people thinking and hopefully they acted on them..as long as the thoughts weren't bad ones then Gale would be happy with that result. "Rhys, wait.." he got up when the other did, watching him head for the door.
So just...treat him right
Once Rhys was at the door, Gale wanted to stop him but he didn't move. What good was there to force someone to sit and listen when they could easily tune your voice out. Watching him go, Gale sank back down onto the bed and sighed loudly. Sitting there for a little while more he decided that he might hint to Jasper about his friends, but he wouldn't bring up Rhys specifically, and he'd do his best not to mistreat Jasper. He didn't think he would be able to but if the time came for something like that, Gale would rather not be the one hurting someone he liked as much as he liked Jasper. He picked up his sketchbook and headed out the door, glancing around the common room for any sign of Rhys before leaving to head back to his own dorm.
