- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Being behind on homework was no fun and sitting in the library trying to finish all of it was even worst, but that was what Chantal had to do to maintain and get her O's and E's in class, if she liked it or not. In this case, she had to like it. Homework was not one of her favorite things to do in her free time, well, it was usually all she had to do in her free time. No one ever invited her to do things and she rarely went to anything. It was a surprise that she was still popular with her friends.
Chantal propped her elbow on the table and laid her chin on her hand as her eyes glanced down at the paper in front of her. With quill in hand, she continued to write about charms that she already knew a lot about. The ink wrote neat letters on the paper and when she finished her last sentence, she ended it with a period, which looked more like a splatter. Chantal made a frustrated face and shook her head, laying the paper aside and retrieving another.
She had never had so many papers to do and she intended to write to her parents sometime today, but the lookout for the evening seemed foggy with homework. Was it possible to just make words appear on the paper? Chantal had heard of such things, but the only she knew of was more like an exchange, like when she forgot some homework for a class in the dorm and when she was outside the class she 'exchanged' the papers. If only she had done all of this work earlier. A tutor would be good right now.

Something Ravenclaws seemed to always adore about the library was the musty smell of books. However, Starke Diggory was no Ravenclaw, and he did not enjoy the smell. In fact, he could hardly even smell it at all. He could detect a slight difference, but his nose failed him so much that he could not really smell much at all. Maybe it was a good thing. He was not sure he would enjoy the smell of deteriorating books.
Browsing the books for inspiration on his Charms paper he had due, Starke’s eyes skimmed the titles lazily. His mind was hardly on books at the moment, and he wondered if he should be bothering. But the girl on his mind probably would have encouraged him to push on until the paper was complete. Though he highly doubted he would bring it up with her, something in him wanted to please her, even on a subconscious level.
His eyes were far above his head, as he walked out of the row of books. It was in passing that his gaze glanced over Chantal. She was a fellow housemate, though a year behind him. He normally would have let her go on her way. They had really exchanged little more than smiles of recognition, because of their house placement, but she looked particularly overwhelmed this time around. And he really did not think he would be able to concentrate any time soon in the silence. “How you doing, Chantal?” He asked with a sympathetic smile, resting his palm on the little bit of exposed table opposite her.

Chantal began to slowly write on the fresh parchment when a familiar face greeted her. “How you doing, Chantal?” Her icy green eyes glanced up to see it was her house mate, Starke Diggory. Laying down her quill, she looked up away from the paper and gave a small smile that was surprising not forced. "I'm good," she replied, "just writing a letter to my parents."
She moved the paper aside just a little bit, making room for her to gently lay her arm down. As she did so, she looked at her pile of papers, "and I'm attempting to catch up on all of my late homework," she added. Her voice hinted that she definitely was not thrilled about it, but it had to be done.
"How are you?" she asked, focusing back on him and not the dreaded work. Thank goodness he showed up. Chantal thought she might have fallen asleep in a hour or so. she needed something to keep her up and lively as if she wasn't all the time.

[Sorry to ignore you. I just wanted to finish that thread with Hailey.]
Starke watched her intently, a strange sensation coming over him. It wasn’t the first time that it had happened around her. In fact, it was one of the reasons he had always smiled so brightly at her any time she had passed in the halls. It was strange, because it never led to him being infatuated with her. But he always seemed drawn to her when she was in sight. Though, he did not know her well enough to know what accounted for it.
“Parents. Merlin’s beard, I haven’t written to mine in forever,” He said, as though suddenly realizing that that was something he needed to add to his list of things to do as well. He glanced over her papers on the table, not really picking up anything in particular. “I’m in here for homework too, but I guess I don’t have as much as you.” He said in a highly pleasant tone. “Wish I could help.” He said, conveying clearly that he was hardly tutoring quality. Though he did have his subjects that he excelled in.

( It's okay! )
"I havn't gotten to write my parents either," Chantal said, "and I have a lot of screaming letters to prove it!" She grinned widely as she thought about the letters she had recieved from her parents that questioned why she hadn't written to them. She honestly thought they were embarassing so she simply did not answer them. But she felt bad now and that was her only reason for writing to them.
She glanced over at the papers once more, "I don't think anyone has as much homework as me." She looked back at him as he said he wished he could help. "It's quite alright. I can manage, somehow. I think I'll quit actually. It is all mainly from herbology and everyone knows how much I hate that class."

While Starke got pleanty of trouble from his mum and da -- okay, really just his mum, he had never gotten a howler about it. At least, that’s what he presumed she was getting when she mentioned screaming letters. He himself had never gotten one, but he had seen a few people unfortunately get them right out in public. They were horrid… and annoying at that.
The papers before her were the proof of her statement about having so much homework. He would have been overwhelmed into quitting as well; so he wasn’t about to hold it against her. They weren’t Ravenclaws after all. While Starke did not know Chantal hated Herbology, he was not surprised. While he was passively concerned about the environment, he was not really into plants. “Then why keep taking it? You want to be a Healer, or something?” Starke had entertained the idea himself when he was young, but he was not very good at Herbology or Potions, two necessities which his skills in wand work would not be able to make up for.
