Ashley let out a small whiny noise as Jake mentioned getting up at six in the morning. He lifted his head for a moment, looking hopeful like a little child would. ”PM?” He knew that the words would hardly be enough to convince the other, and for a second he resented the fact that his friend had to be a Ravenclaw, though he hardly meant any of it.
”Six is fine...” The boy sighed dramatically, burying his face in the Ravenclaws shirt again, feeling the urge to mumble profanities under his breath, though what came out was another one of those whines. He knew that he was either being sickeningly cute or just pathetic, but hoped that the other male was opting for the first.
It was nice that he could be himself, the boy that loved being a regular sixteen-year-old, without all the added drama because of his past. Sure, sometimes he felt sad, sometimes he didn’t know what to do, what his future would end up looking like. But he was still Ashley O’Neill, the boy who had always had a love for life, who never wanted anything but to smile and make others happy. The brunette brought that boy back out of his shell, and he couldn’t love him more for it.

He laughed softly at the whine, rubbing a hand over Ash's shoulders when he buried his face into his shirt again. Usually people who acted like kids annoyed him somewhat, but the way Ash did it just made him look adorable. "It doesn't have to be six..what time do you want it to be?" he asked unable to help a grin that stayed on his face. He just figured six so they would be downstairs for breakfast before classes but maybe Ashley had no intention of attending breakfast the following morning?
He started to reset his watch for seven, "Is five better for you?" he asked trying not to laugh. He was generally an early riser, he couldn't help it since his parents had them all up no later than 6:05am on the dot every morning. Every time Jake slept late(from exhaustion or forcing himself to stay in bed longer) he either felt naughty or guilty, more of the first though since his father wouldn't like it. It secretly pleased him to know that he was disobeying an order from Colonel Masello.
It made Jake's heart swell with some happy emotion whenever Ashley gave him glimpses of him looking a bit more vulnerable. He guessed it was how the boy always was before the horrible accident that took his parents and he was being a bit selfish in hoping he'd brought that out in the other but would never actually say it incase it wasn't true. His hand slid up Ash's back to tangle his fingers gently in the hair that was resting on the back of his neck, running his fingers through it slowly loving how soft it felt. He pressed a kiss to the crown of his head, he just realized that he kept giving little kisses like that and it felt completely natural, which just made Jake fall a little harder for the boy snuggled against him.

"It doesn’t have to be six..what time do you want it to be? Is five better for you?"
The blonde scoffed, though he was too tired to really look up at him again. Dropping his head dejectedly onto the others shoulder, he held back a purr at the soft fingers in his hair, mumbling something incoherent and unflattering under his breath. He had never been much of a morning person, and the idea of getting up in less than four hours was nothing short of pure agony. It was hard enough for him to focus and produce good spellwork in class on a normal day, let alone when he had barely slept.
”Can’t we skip class?” Ash sounded almost hopeful, though he let out a longdrawn sigh as he finished his words. Somehow he doubted that the Ravenclaw would be up for that, however, the thought of convincing him was almost as amusing as it was arousing. ”Spend the night here...talking, cuddling...then sleeping in until everyone is in class and we can do whatever we want for an entire day. I’m sure the room would keep us entertained.” There was a hint of laughter and something else in his voice. He longed for that, just a little more personal time with Jake.

Laughing a little as he heard the un-amused mutterings from the Hufflepuff. The mutters might be a tad pissy but they were endearing never the less. Jake set his watch for a later time but then ran his hand down Ash's back. He liked mornings most of the time, well, mainly they didn't bother him but he didn't like getting up at the crack of dawn either.
"Can't we skip class?"
He smiled warmly at Ashley, knowing he probably could skip a day. He just never had, it was a little exciting to think about possibly skipping out on classes. But what if the teachers thought something was wrong and owled his parents? That wouldn't be a good thing 'Hi dad, yeah I skipped classes to hang out with my boyfriend' ...wait, boyfriend? Well, technically Ash wasn't his boyfriend..yet. He still needed to ask him officially and Christmas and New Years couldn't come quick enough.
His hand found Ash's again and he squeezed his hand "It might.. but I don't think we should skip class because of it.." he said softly, leaning his head against the blonde's. Having only a few hours of sleep wouldn't be fun for either of them, and what was that in his voice? Did Ash want to skip class for other reasons? That thought made a shiver run down Jake's spine. More alone time with Ash would be great..the Ravenclaw knew he'd probably be occupied with thinking about Ashley tomorrow if they went to class anyway so perhaps he'd just suck it up and skip one or two classes. "What about skipping the morning classes?" he murmured looking at Ash looking a little apprehensive but excited too.

When Jake mentioned that the room’s many uses wouldn’t be a good enough reason to skip class, Ashley pouted. He was definitely not in the mood to spend his entire day without seeing Jake. It was bad enough that he was the oldest in his year, that he was learning things he knew he had been able to do before the accident, but going through all these agonizing classes without seeing the guy he fancied...well that was just pure torture. Luckily though, it seemed that Jake was reconsidering.
"What about skipping the morning classes?"
He positively beamed, leaning in and kissing the Ravenclaw a little more forceful than he’d intended. The words that slipped out were definitely not planned and made him blush the moment he registered exactly what he’d been saying. ”I love you!” Oh. My. God. That was...Well, to be honest, he didn’t even want to think of how that sounded to the older male. Sure, the brunette knew that he cared about him, but it was a long way from that to love, and Ashley didn’t even know whether or not he loved him. He suspected that he might, maybe, in the future, possibly. But now? Now he just felt very uncomfortable.

He was slightly nervous about actually skipping class, but really didn't want to go and spend the entire time thinking about his night with Ash. That's what would happen anyway, he'd probably just stare off into space or at his desk and think. Think about exactly what was going to happen with them and hope for the best it'd play out with minimal drama. Then Ash kissed him and he laughed a little, returning it and he continued laughing after it. He was glad that Ash liked his idea.
”I love you!”
That snapped him out of the amusement of the moment and his laughter trailed off, looking at Ash a little surprised. It freaked him out a little but after a few moments of silence he nudged Ash "Well that's kind of like a thank you, so I'll take it" he teased, just brushing it off. It was too soon to even think about loving each other, right? They'd only really known each other for about a month. Love doesn't happen that quickly does it? Jake.. shut up and stop thinking about it.. okay was his thoughts. No need to read into those three words and take them seriously because Jake would need to leave and brood on them or feel obligated to say them back when he wasn't sure if he felt that way. Those words were hard to come by in his house but for Jake he'd never said them to anyone but family and even that was automatic because it's family.

Ashley was still blushing, his heart almost stopping when Jake looked at him, a mixture of surprise and fear in his eyes. He tried so hard not to look, to pretend that nothing had happened, that a soft sound passed his lips the moment the other mentioned it being a sort of thank you. He nodded, relieved, though he still felt a little awkward about having said it. He didn’t mean it like that, and he wanted, no, needed the older boy to know.
”I don’t...I didn’t...I mean” God, this was hard. Ash bit his lip again, a small spot appearing there as he fought down the nerves and the blush. He needed to make sure that his...whatever he was didn’t freak out about those three little words. It was too big. Too much. The only boy he had said it to and meant it was Noah. Yeah, he loved his friends, but it was different. It wasn’t so....demanding.
Taking another deep breath, he looked at Jake, then back to his fingers that seemed to want to cling to the others hand. ”It wasn’t meant like that. You’re a really great guy, but I don’t say those words easily. Not seriously anyway. I mean...uhm...If I meant them, you’d know.” It was the best he could do, the blonde still fidgeting a little, hoping that he wasn’t disappointing him now.

Jake knew it wasn't intentional.. but Ash being so adamant about it was starting to make him feel pretty shitty. Looking away he nodded "I got it Ash.. you didn't mean it" he said a bit more forcefully than he intended. He couldn't take it anymore. After all the sweet words now he was acting like he didn't mean a damn one. He hoped to God or Merlin or whoever, that he DID mean at least one of those nice things.
He kissed Ash's cheek quickly, feigning sleepiness and he detangled himself from Ash to get up so he could change into his pajamas that were laid out there. "Better get some sleep.." he said glancing back over at him as he quickly changed "Need any help getting changed?" he asked, willing to but he was starting to somewhat curl into himself mentally, putting up some walls emotional wise.
That was why he wouldn't.. couldn't let himself get so close so quickly. It just screwed him over and he hated how this looked like it might turn into another one of those situations. He really didn't know what Ash was thinking now.

The words were dismissive, and Ashley bit back a reply, knowing that anything he could possibly come up with would be unlikely to make things better at present time. He had meant all those sweet words, and the feeling that Jake might be doubting them made his heart ache. It made him feel...sad. Tired. Wondering if it even mattered, because the other pulled away from him fairly quickly after that. As if he’d suddenly realized what they were doing.
Was that it? Was Jake starting to pull back because it all somehow seemed to get too intense? Ash couldn’t help but wonder whether or not it was him or something else. Would he be the same with someone less complicated? Someone who didn’t need around the clock help?
The blonde looked away when the Ravenclaw changed into his pajamas, dangling his hand off the bed to grasp his own pair. Now Jake could barely look at him. Great. Their night had seemed to go so well..Jake had been so sweet and wonderful...and now it felt like he was backing out. To be honest, Ashley could hardly blame him. It was that knowledge that hurt even worse.
”I’m fine” Two could play that game. The Hufflepuff had gotten pretty good at that whole dismissive act, ever since he changed schools and became the next interesting thing around Hogwarts. He’d make himself feel fine, or fake it until it became a natural thing. That’s what he was good at. He didn’t have to wear his heart on his sleeve with everyone after all.
Changing into his pajamas was difficult, but he managed, jaw set tight as he wormed himself into deep blue sweats, a stubborn crease wrinkling his forehead. He was probably being a little immature, but the way the brunette had brushed him off was far from grown up himself. Throwing himself onto his side – back facing Jake – he muttered something similar to ‘goodnight’ under his breath, closing his eyes and wishing that sleep would take him quickly.
