Casey stretched and yawned at the Gryffindor table, making a totally over-dramatic show of how tired he was. Mornings were not Casey’s time of day, and if he had it his way, he’d still be in bed by mid afternoon. He had Charms, first, as well, which didn’t make the prospect of getting out of bed any more appealing, but some how he had managed it and now he was sat at the table for breakfast next to Jemma, who was rabbiting on about her new boyfriend, Mark, a 6th year Hufflepuff, who, from What Casey could gather, was as boring as hell.
However, there were people in Hufflepuff who were much more interesting, and as Casey flicked his eyes over in the direction that Jemma was staring, he saw one of them, and started grinning “Hey Jemma,” He said, cutting her off mid-flow “Let’s go over there and see him, yeah?” And he was up and out of his seat before she’d had a chance to agree.
Grinning, Casey bounded over to where Kai was sitting [which was thankfully only a little way down from Mark, so he could get away with his pretence. “Hi Kai!” He said cheerfully, plonking himself down on the bench next to the older boy “Wow, that rhymes” He smiled, not feeling the slightest bit foolish at his sudden revelation, and swiped one of the fried potatoes off Kai’s plate. A thought suddenly popped into Casey’s mind as he chomped on the potato, and he turned his eyes back to Kai, another grin on his face “Hey, do you fancy going for a walk? I’ve got a free first, and there isn’t any homework I need to do, so I thought it might be nice.” Hopefully, he’d get away with that one.

Kai had slept pretty well last night, and for some reason when he woke up this morning he was feeling ravenously hungry. After having gotten dressed a bit sloppier than usual because he was in a rush to get downstairs, Kai came into the Great Hall and deliberately had positioned himself at the Hufflepuff table so that he was facing the Gryffindors. He wasn't trying to give off any kind of creepy stalker vibe or anything, but he was hoping to catch a glance at Casey this morning before he had to head off to class.
Kai popped a piece of ham into his mouth as he half heartedly listened to his house mates around him chattering about random things he really didn't care about. Of course, being the gentleman that he was, Kai smiled and nodded here and there. His eyes trailed across the Gryffindor table but he didn't see Casey. Biting his lip softly, Kai wondered what Fred would think if he knew that Kai was being this pathetically smitten.
He was pulled out of his thoughts quickly by a familiar voice that was followed by a plop on the bench next to him. Instantly his face lit up and a wide smile spread across his face. He didn't even mind when Casey pointed out that 'Hi Kai' rhymed. Most of the time, that really bothered him because he got it a lot more than he would like to. "Hey, Case!" Watching as Casey stole one of his potatoes, Kai popped one of them into his mouth. The grin on Casey's face kept a smile on Kai's. "A walk..? Well, I actually am supposed to be in potions in 20 minutes.." His voice was a bit apprehensive, showing that Kai was on the edge.
He really wanted to spend more time with Casey, but Kai rarely ever skipped a class. He had already gotten detention for being late when he'd met Casey in the armoury. "I don't want to get another detention.. I had to help scrape ten year old goop off the back of the potions closet by hand." Kai scrunched up his nose, making a face. "Very unpleasant. It smelled like onions." Though he knew that if Casey were to just plead a bit, he would probably give in.

Casey was absolutely delighted that Kai was smiling back at him so widely. With any luck, that would mean a walk was definitely on the agenda. And he didn’t even mind when Casey stole one of his potatoes, or didn’t comment on it, at least, so the Gryffindor took that as signal to go in and make a grab at another. But the apprehensive edge to Kai’s voice when he repeated Casey’s suggestion wasn’t exactly encouraging, and a slight pout formed on his lips. “Professor Snyder won’t mind if you’re a few minutes late” he said, knowing full well she would “Tell her you had to do something really important. It‘d be true” he grinned, unable to keep up any kind of puppy-dog pretence.
When Kai started backing up his arguments with logical reasons, though, Casey knew it was time for drastic action “Pleaaaaase?” He wheedled, sliding closer to Kai on the bench, and only just stopping short of fluttering his eyelashes “Come ooooon, it’ll be fun, promise” His arguments were a lit less rationally sound than Kai’s were, but that didn’t dissuade him “Plus” He added, a thought popping into his mind “If you scraped ten year old goop of the cabinets last time, it wont be there this time. No scraping, see?” He beamed, half at his infallible reasoning, and half in attempt to convince Kai of his argument. He just hoped at last one of his tactics would work.

Kai sat there patiently as Casey continued to attempt to convince him to skip his next class. The Gryffindor's logic was flawed severely, but Kai couldn't help but grin as he listened. He had to give Casey props for trying anyways. It really was rather cute, and the way that Casey was really pushing to spend time with Kai was enough all on it's own to make the idea of skipping seem rather welcoming. The Gryffindor was so cute that Kai almost wanted to just kiss him right here in the hall where everyone could see, but he instead he settled for not even attempting to hide the wide smile that danced upon his face.
"Are you going to make it worth my while?" He elbowed Casey gently with a bit of a teasing air in his voice. He really normally would not willingly accept a detention for another student, but Casey was just so.. different. He was something special, and Kai really just wanted to do nothing more than smile everytime he thought about the Gryffindor. Taking another bite of his potatoes, Kai paused for a moment as if arguing with himself internally. "No scraping, but I am sure professor would come up with something as equally horrifying."

Kai’s grin was infectious, and Casey found that his cheeks were actually starting to hurt from how much he was smiling, but he still couldn’t stop himself. He really did enjoy being around Kai, and not just for the fact his plate was plentiful in fried potatoes, which Casey quickly grabbed another of. He’d never thought he’d value maturity in a friendship, but that really was something he liked in Kai. Maybe it wasn’t maturity, but at only 15, that’s how Casey saw it - the way he was kind of reserved, cautious, thinking about things before acting.
Of course, that did cause problems when Casey was trying to get him to skip classes, but at Kai’s next comment hem felt his grin spread wider, if that was possible. Triumph at last! “Totally” He replied, not quite naïve enough to miss the implication of Kai’s words, but not thinking too much of it. Plus, he wasn’t going to complain if he got to kiss Kai again - in fact, the idea was quite appealing. He took kais hand and laced his fingers in with the older boys, before practically dragging him off the bench. “The nice things we’re going to do are gunna be like, ten times nicer than any of the nasty stuff she can think of could be nasty” He babbled, not even attempting to make what he was trying to say into some semblance of sense. He was pretty sure he’d won.

Kai's blue eyes widened as Casey grabbed him and yanked him off the bench. A small squeal escaped from his lips with the effort to keep himself balanced on his feet while somehow managing to keep ahold of Casey's hand. After a few moments when he felt it was alright to move without fear of toppling over, Kai reached over with his free hand and snatched a few more potatoes from his plate. He popped them into his mouth, glancing down at Casey with a small smile. The younger Gryffindor was so full of life sometimes and Kai absolutely loved it.
"You drive a hard bargain." Kai sighed defeatedly, squeezing Casey's hand lightly. "I just know that once I hear what my detention in going to be that I am going to regret this later." Kai was bluffing at the last part. He wouldn't like his detention at all, but he would never regret spending time with Casey as long as the attention he was getting from the Gryffindor was positive rather than negative. Who knows, perhaps while they were on their class skipping escapade Kai could finally muster up some sort of courage to actually ask Casey where they stood with each other.
Running his free hand through his freshly dyed honey brown locks, Kai took one last glance down at his plate. He took one last potato, popped it into his mouth, and completely ignored the Hufflepuffs around them staring at the fact that his hand was locked with a younger Gryffindor's. Kai knew he'd get asked about it later, but he really didn't care.

Casey was impatient as Kai lingered at the table, regaining his balance and grabbing a last handful of potatoes. He tugged instinctively at the boys hand, rubbing his thumb encouragingly over the fingers that were clasped his his own. Casey never had been any good at patience, and with the promise of a now charms-free morning to spend with the oh-so-gorgeous Kai Durant just around the corner, he was worse than ever.
As soon as Kai looked vaguely ready to go, Casey was off, all but running across the great hall, as if they were escaping some terrible prison, which, in Casey’s mind, Charms lessons actually were. “No one regrets skipping class to spend time with me” He said, the smile on his face evident in his voice as he almost literally did skip out into the entrance hall. In all honesty, he didn’t cut class that much, and more often than not it was only Jemma who was cutting with him, but for some reason, being around Kai made his bravado come out in full force.
Casey shivered slightly as he stepped out into the cold morning air. There was still a little mist spread low over the grounds, and he could feel it seeping through his clothes. He only had a grey cardigan thrown on over his shirt - it had been warm in the Gryffindor boy’s dormitories, and it wasn’t as if his jail brake had been premeditated. Still, he was there with Kai now, he wasn’t about to waste time going back in to get his cloak. Plus, his outfit looked good, even if it was only slightly-modified school uniform.
His hand was still holding onto Kai’s as he set off down the stone steps outside the castle, the frost-covered grass crunching slightly under his feet “Aww, the grounds look so pretty” He said absently, as he looked pout towards the black lake, before tuning to smile up at Kai. “And so do you!” He added, slightly taken aback - in the light, he could see that Kai’s hair was a different colour to the one it was last time he’d seen it “Did you dye your hair? It looks really nice!” He reached up with his free hand to run his fingers through Kai’s hair, making walking quite difficult - but that didn’t matter. Now they were out of the school, they could take all the time they wanted.
