Introducing...
Name:
Cypress Ernest Brown. Call him by his full name and he will kill you.
Age:
14th February (he's embarrassed and doesn't tell anyone); fifteen years old.
Gender:
Male, surprisingly enough.
Year:
Fifth.
Birthplace:
Norwich, England.
Ethnicity:
Caucasian.
Blood:
Muggleborn.
Relatives:
None at Hogwarts yet, but his family is as follows:
Pets:
Francis is a rat, and Cypress is fully aware of the fact his little brother hates them; it's the sole reason he asked for one. While his mother offered to get him an owl, he decided to forgo the option of personal contact with his parents in favour of harassing his fellow students with a crafty rodent. After all, the school owls are there for a reason, aren't they? Besides, they've always fascinated him.
Francis is a fairly light brown, with a long pink tail that even the store owner declared the longest he'd ever seen. At least it makes it easy to grab the pest when he's being a nuisance. He's absolutely useless at anything other than scouting for food and upsetting other people, but Cypress loves the rodent to bits and wouldn't replace him for the world. More often than not, Francis is found in the pocket or the hood of whatever Cypress is wearing, or alternatively the little rodent will be perched on his owner's shoulder.
Wand Type:
Willow, ten and one-quarter inches long, unicorn hair and fairy wings.
The willow represents imagination, vision and flexibility, which are all rather appropriate for Cypress. The core of his wand has earned him much teasing, resulting in him being nicknamed Fairy by some of the less friendly kids around, but what it lacks in immediate power, it makes up for in skill and subtlety.
Appearance
Picture:
Hair Colour:
Dark brown.
Eye Colour:
Brown.
Build:
Skinny, and a bit lanky.
Skin Tone:
White, fair.
Height:
5' 8".
Dress Style:
Cypress prefers jeans over anything else, along with sneakers and a nice, comfortable top. He's very fashionable, maintaining that perfectly ruffled look that so many men seem to prefer at the moment, and he always manages to look perfectly casual while doing it.
Specifics:
Cypress has a slightly odd-shaped nose, which he thinks is hilarious, and his ears stick out ever such a little bit.
In Front Of Friends
Sexual Orientation:
As gay as a christmas tree.
Self Image:
Cypress absolutely loves himself, a fact that hasn't been helped by his mother's fashionable, popular style and sentimentality. If he thinks he's better at something than someone else, he's quite happy to tell them this fact with a smile (which tends to make it difficult to argue with him), but for the most part he's too lazy to try and interfere with something unless he thinks it's worth his while. He doesn't think he's a horrible person – he doesn't say a bad word about anyone unless they actually deserve it, and even when he does, he goes and tells them to their face; he doesn't believe in backstabbing or bitching – and he isn't; he's just brutally open about his opinions. On the bright side, he also loves his friends, and would rather compliment them than himself any time, so he doesn't always come off as a vain, arrogant idiot (although a lot of people assume this, and he is a little bit of an arrogant arse). He knows he isn't as intelligent as many people but he long ago gave up competing with people on book smarts – he just prefers to blag his way through life and hopes that lying and pretending to know about things will get him where he needs to be. Very occasionally he'll begin to question himself on things, usually after seeing someone he fancies, but it goes away fairly quickly.
To the Outward Eye:
Cypress is nothing if not an artist, and at first glance you can see as such. From his clothing style to his attitude, and even his posture, the first thing anyone thinks of is “oh, he's one of the drama kids”. His movements are always fairly graceful, but one gets the sense that he's almost never in control of the situation, and that he likes it that way – he likes to go with the flow. He's also fairly open and likes to talk to new people, so it's a bit difficult to dislike him for that. Some people also assume he's not all there in the head, but he's definitely more alert than he appears. He can be a little overbearing at times.
Social Status:
Cypress likes to think of himself as a little bit of a player, and his own self-confidence does help him to succeed in the social sphere. While he's fairly popular amongst students in the sense that he can get on with near enough anyone, he doesn't have many close friends and finds many a rumour being spread about him behind his back if he's wronged someone, usually intentionally. More people consider him their friend than he considers them his friend, and messages between himself and other people remain fairly confusing. Teachers dislike him, as he does them, because he simply doesn't see any point in his education and he spends as much time as possible being the class clown, disrupting lessons and generally antagonizing the teachers. A lot of people don't trust his word as they can't tell whether he's lying or not.

Patronus:
Cypress' Patronus is a lemur – a little bit unusual, fairly graceful and extremely social, as well as looking just a little bit funny but still very much likeable. It might not be the smartest animal in the bush, but it's certainly one of the more interesting ones.
Boggart:
His brother injured or dead. The very thought paralyses him, and he can't do anything when confronted with the idea.

Oh, Cypress's teachers hate him. He talks back, he's rude, he's inconsiderate and he never does his work on time. They really can't wait til he finally leaves the school.
Personal Statement:
Cypress favours Charms class, as he seems to have a natural talent for the casting of such charms. Perhaps it has something to do with the fact he likes to be dramatic anyway, and his flamboyance spills over into his skills when performing Charms. He also simply likes the teacher.
He hates History of Magic. Really, Cypress can't understand why the teachers would let a ghost teach the most boring class anyone could ever think of. It was just begging for trouble, or at least boredom, and Cypress often has to find himself ways to stay awake, else he'll never learn anything about the history of the wizarding world. Besides, he can always blag it in the exams – the people marking the paper would probably be delighted to see some interesting, made up story over the dull nature of what they actually have to learn! Cypress dislikes Potions mostly because he's failing it, but also on the simple prinicple that it's in the dungeons and, usually, Slytherins are good at it. He has never been one to be great at following instructions, and considering the lesson is one in which instruction is key, it's not really a surprise Cypress sucks at it. His attempts to liven up potions with his own ingredients often results in disaster and detentions, much to the dismay of his house, his mother and his teachers.
History:
Lavender Brown was thought to be a fairly silly girl at school, and unfortunately it didn't change in the future a whole lot. She ended up falling pregnant with one of her boyfriends, but she'd had so many in such a short period of time, she wasn't entirely sure which one was the father. She didn't really care, either - none of them would be good fathers. She gave birth to her eldest, Cypress, and ended up doing exactly the same thing a good few years down the line with Rowan. She did, however, turn out to be an excellent mother, if maybe a little bit too focused on having a pretty son.
Even from a young age, Cypress knew he wanted to be an actor of some kind. Television interested him, of course, but it was the theatre that really got him intrigued. Going to see pantomimes, and then trips to random plays and dramas throughout his childhood have caused him to be obsessed with the stage, and he's never even considered anything else. It could be his love of acting has affected his view on the world, which might be the reason that he lies or embellishes the truth so often, although it could simply be that he's a sneaky little git who likes to wind people up and see how far he can push them before they say no.
Rowan's birth was a bit of a shock to Cypress, who didn't entirely understand quite what was happening, but he was very protective of his little brother from the get go and, to this day, loves him to bits. He'd do anything for his little brother if he asked and has gotten into trouble defending him in primary school. He might not be the best fighter in the world, but he'll give his all for something that important to him.
Thrilled that he'd gotten into Hogwarts, Cypress was a little bit upset that he had to leave his little brother behind in primary school, but he had to admit that it was nice to be able to make friends of his own and to explore his own personality more, rather than being a big brother the whole time. He really came into his own during his first few years at Hogwarts, and now he's fairly confident and feels he knows his place in the heirarchy. His third year proved to be his most educational, as he discovered the reason he couldn't hold any interest in girls – he fancied men instead. He was a little freaked out by this at first, but has come to accept and embrace it, finding it lets him spend more time around girls, whom he gets on with better anyway.
He does miss not being able to talk to Rowan whenever he likes, so he makes sure to write whenever possible, knowing that the owl post really freaks the kid out.
Preferred House:
Gryffindor! He's majorly one at heart.

A lot of people don't trust his word as they can't tell whether he's lying or not.
Positive Traits:
- Open – Cypress is fairly open... Or at least he seems that way. For the most part, he doesn't hide his emotions and he doesn't shy away from people or the spotlight, although occasionally he'll seem like he's not really interested, which generally means you've annoyed him somehow. He loves to hang around with new people and always takes an interest in anyone who looks remotely interesting.
- Cheerful – while Cypress does have many mood swings, his default emotion seems to be cheerful. He finds it difficult to keep any semblance of anger for too long, as it's simply not in his nature. He's the type to forgive and forget, so long as he gets to have a bit of a go at you first. He's always overly happy around anyone who isn't close to him, which can annoy them, but is usually more infectious than annoying and so he gets away with it.
- Friendly – Cypress is extremely friendly, especially with the girls, as he manages to get on well with them. He loves to talk to new people, and he never holds back.
- Confident – Cypress is extremely confident about everything he does, sometimes overly so. While many a time this has actually resulted in trouble for him, his confidence also means he's able to deal with people and situations a lot easier than others, and he's almost always up for anything people want to throw at him. It also leads to him being prepared to rush into danger at the drop of a hat, which could translate into confidence but is more often referred to as blind stupidity.
- Flamboyant – Cypress has a dramatic flair, just like his mother before him, but he always uses it to his advantage. While some people will find him annoying, for the most part people are amused by his antics and tall tales, which frequently feature him as a hero, and his imagination is such that people just find him amusing.
Negative Traits:
- A bit vain – Cypress really does think he's one of the best things since sliced bread (although even he isn't pretentious enough to claim he's the best thing since Harry Potter), and he's not afraid of sharing this fact with other people. He truly does think he's gorgeous, and he's not ashamed of admitting that – in fact, he thinks it's a positive trait to be able to love yourself. He is aware that he has flaws, but generally chooses to ignore it. On the bright side, he's not so vain that he goes around declaring his arrival and expecting people to dash to his side; he just spends a little more time looking in the mirror than is entirely appropriate.
- Over-dramatic – Cypress is over-dramatic about everything, and if he's got an audience, then all the better. He's willing to embellish the truth to massive degrees, and sometimes his friends find it hard to believe whether or not he's actually telling the entire truth. A trip to a Muggle doctor would probably result in him being told he has a compulsive lying disorder, but as he's never done so, it remains undiagnosed. Everything must always be grandiose, and if it sounds better than the truth, then he'll run with it. Unfortunately, everything sounds better than the truth to him.
- Uninterested – Cypress really isn't all that bothered about his school work as he's fairly sure he doesn't want any kind of career involving magic. While it upsets both his parents quite a lot, he sticks by his opinion that he would have been better off going to drama school than to Hogwarts, and he's never quite forgiven his mother for trying to get him into more academic pursuits.
- Brash – Cypress rarely thinks things through, which often gets him into trouble. He has a major “leap before you look” mentality in regards to pretty much anything, and while sometimes this is a good thing (helping out friends, offering to do errands and such), it also winds up being the cause of many bruises, lost teeth and tantrums from him.
- Overconfident – while he's aware that, grade wise, he's a bit of a failure, Cypress is confident in his ability to get out of homework and being able to pass his exams to an acceptable level, simply because he thinks he's that good. He's gotten into many a fight that he's lost because of this arrogance, but for the most part, he's positive that blagging it will take him far...
- Moody – Cypress is a moody bugger, and when you've done something to upset him then he'll play it up for ages. Unfortunately, his mood swings are frequent, and while he very rarely becomes openly angry, he's perfected the art of giving the cold shoulder while still appearing somewhat sociable. It's a skill he's rather proud of.
- Snacks a lot – Cypress has rather a bad habit of eating lots of junk food, and while he works it all back off, a slip in his regime could easily result in his making himself unhealthy. He really does this to replace antsy gestures, as he finds it difficult to keep still (even when asleep, although he does love sleeping), and he thinks that if he did something else – weed, maybe, or even simply smoking – then he'd be less inclined to eat all the time, but fortunately his parents still strike enough fear into him to stop him from that.
- Unreliable – while he's absolutely reliable for his brother, as he loves him more than anything else in the world, he's generally an unreliable person. He can't hold a relationship for more than three months, after which point he feels suffocated, and he's frequently late, or “forgets” things that are supposed to be important. He's even left his wand in his bedroom on a Defence Against The Dark Arts exam day, although no one is sure whether or not that was on purpose.
Interests:
- Theatre - he loves drama and everything connected with it.
- Music - he loves the sound being all around him all the time. He hates silence and music fills it.
- Enjoying himself - who doesn't like to enjoy themselves?
- Swimming - he finds it soothing, which is nice as he isn't generally a fairly calm person.
Likes:
- The theatre - he worked in one for a summer job briefly and fell in love with it. Besides, he's always liked plays.
- Rats - he just likes them.
- His brother, Rowan - he gets on scarily well with his little brother, really.
- Being the centre of attention - he needs the spotlight to thrive.
- Doing what he wants - he hates being told what to do.
- Sleeping - sleeping is fun.
- Swimming - he likes the feel of the water.
- Meeting new people - new friends!
- Cheese - it tastes good!
- Bertie Bott's Every Flavour Beans (except orange) - the flavours are fun and surprising.
Dislikes:
- Orange – he's allergic to it.
- Cats - they'd eat his rat!
- Being made fun of - he hates it.
- Being accused of lying - he doesn't always believe he is lying.
- Threats to his brother - no one gets away with it.
- High expectations - he never meets them.
- Alcohol - he's high on life, who needs to get drunk?
- Food - he eats too much of it when snacking.
- Being alone - it makes him lonely?
- Not being in a relationship - he loves to be in love.
- Being stuck in a relationship for too long - he gets bored of the same people very quickly.
Patronus:
Cypress' Patronus is a lemur – a little bit unusual, fairly graceful and extremely social, as well as looking just a little bit funny but still very much likeable. It might not be the smartest animal in the bush, but it's certainly one of the more interesting ones.
