Introducing...
Name:
Rosalind Sweet,
alias; Rizzie
Age:
September 1st - 16
Gender:
Female
Year:
Fifth Year
Birthplace:
Wales; Cardiff
Ethnicity:
Caucasian
Nationality:
Welsh and British
Blood:
Half Blood
Relatives:
Mandragora Bitterblue nee' Sweet (mother) - deceased
Wallace Sweet(father) - deceased
Ingrid Bitterblue (grandmother)
Matthias Bitterblue (grandfather)
It should be explained that Ingrid and Mattias Bitterblue were both of wizarding blood but their daughter was unfortunate enough to be born a squib. The wizard bloodline (though skipping Rosalind's mother) was passed on to her nonetheless. Wallace Sweet's side of the family are all of muggle descent.
Pets:
Notty is a flame pointed siamese cat that's been in the family since her mother was a little girl. She's extremely intelligent for a cat and possesses big, expressive blue eyes that are often focused on you in a way that makes you believe the feline understands every word you say to her. Notty is very protective of Rosalind and nearly acts as the girl's eyes for her; warning her of obstacles with a gentle mew. Generally the feline is affectionate but if you upset her sensitive mistress she becomes hostile very quickly.
Wand Type:
Oak, Mermaid Tear, 10" inches
This is a unique and rather temperamental wand. It's flexible and has been known for its' remarkable capabilities of warding off Dark Arts magic (and is definitely not suitable to practice the Dark Arts). It's a wand that requires gentle coaxing of its' owner to cast incantations and reflects the users' gentle and patient personality. It excels with Charms and DADA but has been known to be faulty while dealing with spells that require precision.
Appearance
Picture:
Hair Colour:
Rizzie's hair is a rich, dark brunette. When the light hits it just right, often you'll see traces of a natural coppery/red undertone.
Eye Colour:
Rosalind's eyes are an azure blue and possess electric yellow specks from time to time; depending on what she's wearing or the lighting in a room. However you'll notice they're slightly out of focus and are often teared up; this being a result of being blind. However; she CAN detect movement and notice drastic changes in lighting.
Build:
The girl is very slender; almost frail looking.
Skin Tone:
The girl's skin is a soft peach color and unblemished aside from a faint sprinkle of freckles sprayed out in various areas of her body.
Height:
5'6"
Dress Style:
When not dressed in her typical school robes the girl is partial to wearing dresses of soft pastel colors and skirts (mostly because of her grandmother's influence) Rosalind likes soft fabrics such a silk and satin (they're comfortable on her skin). Her hair is brushed though usually left to twist and cascade in a thick curtain of curls on its' own with little coaxing from Rosalind. She'll often ask someone around her to aid in putting glittering pins or ribbons in it. When it comes to wearing make up she is partial not to wearing any on her eyes because it often smudges due to the moisture but she does like lipsticks and a touch of blush.
Specifics:
Rosalind does possess a small scar on her right temple because of being cursed when she was a young girl. As for its' story; it will be explained in her history. You'll also most likely notice that her eyes are definitely her most stunning feature but appear glossy and give her a nearly dazed; dreamy expression.
In Front Of Friends
Sexual Orientation:
Heterosexual.
Self Image:
Rosalind definitely thinks she is emotionally strong after bearing witness to the death of her parents when she was a child. She also harbors this fierce self-loathing and thinks she's a coward because she didn't do anything to help her mum or dad all those years ago. Rosalind has always been intuitive and generally and go-with-the-flow type of person who isn't necessarily shy but doesn't go out of her way to make conversation either. She likes to believe she's exactly what her last name suggests; sweet. Rosalind generally is too stubborn to accept help or doting from her peers because she feels she's definitely not helpless or pathetic just because she's limited in terms of seeing.
To the Outward Eye:
Rosalind will give the impression that she's a sensitive girl and someone who seems absent-minded because of her dazed expression. (however once they get close enough they'll realize she's blind) Most would admire her because of the way she can survive day-to-day life with the handicap of being blind (though most can't see passed this to realize that the girl is not helpless). Generally Rosalind is kind and if you take the time to get to know her you would think she's brave (though also a bit tentative). Many don't notice her though because she's quiet; more likely to think of people as obstacles than things to converse with as it would be terribly embarrassing to always be bumping into them.
Social Status:
She's popular but not known in the way she'd like. Hogwarts' Blind Girl. Rosalind despises being known as the Blind Girl as there's more to her than just being blind! It's sad that most people don't even know her actual name...
Positive Traits:
Negative Traits:
Post at least five negative character traits here, and explain them. Same advice as for positive traits. =)
Skills:
Rosalind has an amazing singing voice and definitely has a feel for music (terribly cliche' for a blind person I know). She's also wonderful with animals and magical creatures - most being allured by her gentle and patient nature.
Likes:
Dislikes:
Patronus:
Her patronus is a gazelle. A gazelle is graceful, elegant, beautiful(everything that Rosalind would like to be) and definitely a creature that depends on its' instincts to survive. In some ways it's much like Rosalind herself before the accident and becoming blind.
Boggart:
Her boggart is fire; not just a measly little camp fire or a flicker of a flame but something roaring and out of control that gives off an intense amount of heat. If it's encasing her or all around her that's when it's the most terrifying; while not providing her an escape route.

Report:
Rosalind is an excellent and observant student (as observant as you can be without sight) though does require a lot of help in order to be able to do hands on stuff. She's curious and asks a lot of questions and demands quite a bit of explanations as to how things work, how they look, how they feel etc.
Personal Statement:
Rosalind's favorite classes are definitely her DADA, COMC, and Potions classes because they are generally very hands on (which is right up her alley). Herbology is rather boring for her but because she's gentle the plants tend to like her as well and thus are easier for her to deal with than someone else. Divination? She utterly despises it because she feels it's a bunch of nonsense and Transfiguration is difficult for her because it requires extreme precision with her magic (and because she can't see it proves to be a lot more difficult for her).
History:
We'll start with Matthias and Ingrid's daughter; Mandragora Bitterblue. Mandragora was a product of two very successful Ministry workers and was loved through her childhood years; however, when Mandragora began to hint at having no magical talent her parents were rather ashamed to call her their daughter. Mandragora did not receive a Hogwarts Acceptance Letter but instead attended ordinary muggle school where she fit in nicely. Come her Sophomore year of High School she met Wallace Sweet - who became her high school sweetheart and later her husband.
Wallace and Mandragora eloped to Cardiff, the capitol city of Wales and purchased a cottage in the more rural areas of the city. Mandragora worked humbly at a flower shop while Wallace had taken up construction working. A couple years after their marriage had begun and they were financially strong, Mandragora became pregnant and gave birth to a lovely little girl that would today be known as Rosalind Sweet.
Unlike her parents; Rosalind had been gifted with magic and began showing signs of her magical heritage at the age of nine. Her parents found that she could levitate objects and even once had turned her vegetables into sweets! A squib was no where near capable enough to explain Rosalind's powers to her and so Mandragora wrote her parents and asked them for help. They were only too delighted to find out that their grandchild supported a magical gene in her and came to Cardiff right away. Rosalind had been shocked when they appeared right out of her fireplace! It took some careful explaining but Rosalind didn't seem to appear frightened by her powers; more awed and excited if anything! The little girl definitely couldn't wait until she turned eleven and went to school at Hogwarts like her grandmother and grandfather had!
Tragedy struck when the girl turned ten years old. A prisoner from Azkaban had escaped; A well-known muggle-hater; and had ended up at Mandragora and Wallace's quaint little cottage. He slaughtered Mandragora and Wallace before the little girl's eyes as she hid in the cupboards under the kitchen sink. Her sniffles caught his attention and he dragged her out from her hiding spot and muttered some type of incantation with his wand pressed right to her temple. A torturous curse that had surly been meant to kill her, by some miracle, hadn't. Rosalind lay on the floor in a pool of her own blood; left for dead. He hadn't realized whatever he had casted had not worked.
The prisoner set fire to the cottage; leaving Rosalind at the mercy of the swelling and burning flames. The little girl had been terrified and blacked out; not knowing until she woke up in a Wizard Hospital that her grandparents had saved her from the raging inferno but, unfortunately, hadn't been able to save her parents. Not only had Rosalind lost her parents that day but also her eye sight - the curse having been too much for the little girl to bear without some type of permanent damage. Healing Witches and Wizards were puzzled by the fact that their remedies and healing spells didn't work to fix her eyes; coming to the conclusion that no spell to their knowledge could work. Rosalind adapted to being blind quickly though and went with her grandparents to London, England to live.
A year later she received her Hogwarts Acceptance Letter and was whisked away into a world of magical splendor a wonder, always bitter that she could not SEE it. She proved to be a rather talented witch despite her blindness and is now entering her Fifth year. She's optimistic it will be her best one yet and is ready to prove (or rather continue to prove) that she is as capable as a witch with proper eye sight!
Roleplay Sample:
His feathers were tangible; soft and silky beneath her quivering fingertips and his body warm. His wings weren't too long yet because he was just a baby; that much she could tell from the texture of his downy feathers and size. Rosalind sighed and stroked the baby owl gently. A smile had tipped the corners of her lips up when she felt the young bird lean into her touch. Owls could be so affectionate if you were gentle with them - much more than tools used for just delivering letters! A furry tail brushed across her arm and the girl immediately extended her free hand to allow Notty to rub against her affectionately. Surrounded by animals the girl was certainly at piece up in the towers, of course, there always had to be someone who wandered up to disturb her.
"What are you staring at?" Chimed a curious voice from her right; sounding too immature to be someone passed their second year of school yet. Rosalind shifted her damaged eyes in the direction the voice had come from - a habit that she had developed when she could see, never really bothering to drop it. "Oh.. you're the blind girl...I'm sorry I didn't know.." Came her surprised apology to which Rosalind shrugged at. "My name is Rosalind...not 'The Blind Girl'." She informed in a tight voice; clearly irritated by the title. She could feel Notty's fur bristle underneath her fingertips at her sudden change of emotion. Her cat was so smart...
"Right...sorry! Um, do you need help going down the stairs? I could help y-" The young girl stopped in mid sentence when Rosalind suddenly stood up; holding her arm out so that the baby owl was perched there could hop to an actual owl perch. She began walking to the entrance; counting the exact amount of steps it took to reach it before pausing at the stairs. Notty mewed when she became close to them. "I make it up and down from here any other day without assistance...thanks." And with that the girl tentatively reached her foot down to step onto the first stair, then the next, and then the one after that. Her hand ran along side of the rough surface of the tower wall to act as a guide. She wasn't helpless! Why did everyone assume she always needed assistance or help?
OOC: WOW... HORRIBLE.

Positive Traits:
- Courageous - Rosalind cannot see and is shadowed in a world of dark; yet she continues to live her life as normally as one with her condition can. She's still fearful of course, and tentative, but being courageous does not mean you are without fear.
- Intuitive - Rosalind has always been attuned to her environment and the people around her; having this weird ability to know without reason or explanation whether it be sensing danger or a being's sorrow.
- Sensitive - endowed with sensation; having perception through the senses. Having one sense dulled has heightened her others and so warmth, and cold, and touch have proved to deliver more pleasurable sensations to her than the average person. Even sounds have been known to have different effects on her than the average person.
- Determined - Rosalind is extremely determined to prove that she's just as capable as any other witch who can see no matter what the cost or drastic measures she must take.
- Compassionate - She'll have no problem pitying the problems of someone else and is definitely a kind, tender soul who would take the time out to listen to someone's woes and problems.
Negative Traits:
Post at least five negative character traits here, and explain them. Same advice as for positive traits. =)
- Stubborn - You want her to go right but she wants to go left? It's more than likely you won't convince her to see it your way; especially if you're making a comment of how her actions could potentially put her in danger.
- Reckless - Always trying to prove herself the girl will perform tedious and borderline dangerous acts to gain the respect of her peers and anyone else who doubts her because of her handicap.
- Perfectionist - Rosalind likes things done right and precisely. Sloppiness or tardiness are not things she welcomes and you can be sure that if she's given a task of some sorts she will break her back to ensure that it's performed to near perfection if not perfect.
- Self-Critical - Rosalind always finds a way to hold herself at fault. Nothing is ever good enough when it comes to the things she does, period.
- Scornful - This is not a negative trait that's flourished daily but on occasion. Rosalind will generally only show scorn to people who have deemed her incapable in any way or someone who has teased her because of being blind.
Skills:
Rosalind has an amazing singing voice and definitely has a feel for music (terribly cliche' for a blind person I know). She's also wonderful with animals and magical creatures - most being allured by her gentle and patient nature.
Likes:
- Music & Singing - It has a calming effect on her if she's feeling restless or uneasy. It doesn't matter what genre of music as she likes it all.
- Animals/Magical Creatures - They don't judge, they generally aren't malicious and never intend to harm you, some are cuddly, some are misunderstood just like her. What's not to like?
- The Sound of Laughter - so long as it isn't directed at her she generally likes when people are happy and jocular around her. Makes her feel...normal.
- Poetry - it's eloquent and Rosalind enjoys how some of it rhymes and rolls of the tongue. She loves to identify the significant meaning or point a poem is trying to get across to those who read it.
- Challenges - Rosalind likes to push herself to prove she's as capable as the average witch or wizard; what better way to prove than by completing a challenge of some sorts?
- Romance - Ohh the girl is definitely a hopeless romantic but she would have a hard time believing that there's a fairytale ending for someone like her.
- Quidditch - Although she can't see it the sounds of a thrilled crowd and the whooshing of people flying by on broomsticks is exhilarating! She always has someone explain what's going on to her.
Dislikes:
- Fire - You would hate it too if it incinerated your family and almost killed you as well.
- Over-protectiveness - if you smother her you'll annoy her as she's quite an independent creature.
- Dancing - I think this is self-explanatory. She can't see, what makes you think she would like dancing?
- Bertie Botts Every Flavour Beans - Vomit flavored? Ear wax flavored? Why would ANYONE want to consume something with that kind of taste?!
- Loud Noises - They can be overwhelming for someone who has very acute hearing.
Patronus:
Her patronus is a gazelle. A gazelle is graceful, elegant, beautiful(everything that Rosalind would like to be) and definitely a creature that depends on its' instincts to survive. In some ways it's much like Rosalind herself before the accident and becoming blind.
