Introducing...
Name:
Marian Morgan-Bell
Age:
July 26, 16
Gender:
Female
Year:
Sixth
Birthplace:
Palermo, Italy
Ethnicity:
Caucasian
Blood:
Half-blood
Relatives:
Mother - Dawn Morgan, muggle, pediatrician, deceased.
Father - Peter Bell, wizard, Department of International Magical Cooperation
Step-brother - Jonathan Bowman, 23, muggle, archaeologist.
Pets:
Ollie - massive white cat with blue eyes, also 16 years old. Somewhat aggressive and staunchly independent, but Marian can usually wrestle him into hugs.
Wand Type:
Hazel, phoenix feather, 12 inches. Very accurate and also very excitable; tends to tingle and shoot sparks when Marian is excited. Best at Potions and Defense, sometimes misbehaves in Charms, but is generally quite reliable.
Appearance
Picture:
Hair Colour:
Brown
Eye Colour:
Brown. The inner ring is revealed to be green when her pupils contract.
Build:
Slender
Skin Tone:
Not particularly white but not nearly tanned, either. Almost golden.
Height:
161 cm
Dress Style:
Having been a tomboy throughout her childhood, Marian has retained many masculine preferences, evident in her pants of choice - usually long shorts or trousers, never skirts - and her dislike for make-up and accessories. She is usually in some sort of sweater, has a large collection of plaid hats and scarves and indulges herself with bright, patterned socks, which are usually hidden by her trousers but make her happy anyway. She never quite became accustomed to British weather and is usually a little more heavily dressed than everyone around her, with an extensive winter wardrobe that extends to drawerfuls of wooly gloves and earmuffs.
Specifics:
Not least because of their frequency, Marian's unassuming smiles are usually what people notice first about her appearance. Her face appears to have been fashioned solely for this purpose; her cheeks are round and pink and her teeth are endearingly crooked at the sides. Her hair, usually at about chin-length and quite unruly, gives her the general appearance of a pixie, especially when she is wearing a hat. Upon closer inspection, her eyes usually command the most attention in sunlight because of their unusual colour.
In Front Of Friends
Sexual Orientation:
Heterosexual
Self Image:
While she is not arrogant, Marian is confident in her abilities and in her friendships, and as a result is not cowed by anyone's opinion of her. She knows that she is different, but she does not particularly care. Though she has recently come to terms with her femininity, she still sees herself in an almost asexual fashion, so much so that she finds the very idea of being in a relationship funny and has passed up many an opportunity because of it. Her constant closeness to and friendships with boys have made her so comfortable around them that she still considers herself one of them, and the idea of one liking or loving her is unfathomable. In this respect she is a little immature and sometimes admits that she is such, but usually she dismisses the whole notion as silly. When it comes to her lineage, she wishes she were a little closer to her muggle relatives and does sometimes wish she knew more about them, which makes her feel uncharacteristically awkward around her stepbrother. She has a complete lack of awareness of how she affects people.
To the Outward Eye:
Marian is usually likable because she is friendly, but her quirks cause boys to warm to her more quickly and much more easily than girls do. She is perceived as somewhat backward romantically and sexually, which attracts a great deal of teasing, but this innocence makes her easier to trust. She is easy to turn to for help, be it physical, social or educational, and can be trusted to settle arguments with a surprisingly mature simplicity. Sometimes, however, her quests for adventure can become exasperating, as she is an exhausting spirit at a time when most of her peers are settling into a calmer outlook on life.
Social Status:
Being 'one of the boys', Marian does not fit conclusively in a social clique or hierarchy. Though most of her acquaintances like her and she can be found with almost any group of people without the arrangement seeming strange, these friendships are varied and shallow, making her perceived popularity somewhat void. She is pitied and sometimes disdained by particularly developed members of her gender, who either think that she is a basket case or are waiting for her to mature, but she is so happily oblivious to this that it does not really matter. Her closest friends tend to be boys, but even those come from different social groups.
Positive Traits:
Negative Traits:
Skills:
Italian, cooking, Quidditch.
Likes:
The outdoors because there's much to do, winter because of snow and/or hot chocolate, potions because she is talented at it, animals because they are easy to understand, reading and literature and writing (this is a secret), Quidditch because it is awesome, hats... just because.
Dislikes:
Incredibly feminine girls because they annoy her, bigots, being stuck in one place for too long, being cold, being patronised.
Patronus:
Unicorn - Marian has an incredible love for unicorns, so her patronus is not very surprising. Unicorns are somewhat solitary, but magnificent and selfless, and are symbols of unconquerable pride and purity. They are impossible to tame and incredibly rare. Ostensibly, the unicorn should represent her chivalry and dignity, but it also represents protection - large animals make her feel safe.
Boggart:
Her father dead. She has a real, primal fear of losing him, as she is closer to him than anyone else in the world and he is a constant, solid presence.

Report:
Teachers tend to like Marian because of her dedication and easy countenance, though they often have to reprimand her for her impatience and her lack of attention to detail when it comes to projects that do not interest her.
Personal Statement:
"I quite like all of my subjects, actually, which is nice. Defense does get tiring sometimes, but I don't mind, and it's worth it if you consider the advantages. All right, to be honest, some of the things we handle in Care of Magical Creatures are positively bloodthirsty."
History:
Dawn Morgan, a muggle, and Peter Bell, a muggleborn, had a relationship that was passionate but brief. The complications of merging two incredibly different worlds ended their marriage four months after Marian was born, prompting her mother to leave Sicily (where her father's career took them) and move back to Cardiff, taking her daughter with her. When Marian was four years old and her stepbrother eleven, both Dawn Morgan and her new husband, Mark Bowman, were killed in a drunk-driving accident in London. Jonathan Bowman moved in with his mother in Wales, and Marian was taken back to her father, who spent three more years in Italy before returning to London.
Peter Bell had a small family and Marian's maternal relatives were not particularly eager to foster a close relationship with her, and as a result father and daughter became inseparably close. The lack of feminine influence in Marian's life and the fact that her two closest relationships were with two men - she kept up a sporadic correspondence with Jonathan, who she hopelessly looked up to - was probably the reason she preferred the attractions of boyish pursuits than those of dresses or, for that matter, girls in general.
In truth, Peter was utterly clueless as to how a child should be raised, and Marian's early childhood was an exhilarating mess of trial and error during which she was spoiled immensely. Her generosity and friendliness made her a favourite on muggle playgrounds and, when she turned eleven, in Hogwarts classrooms, where her affinity for the male variety made her particularly exotic throughout their second and third years: a tumbling vortex of terror and confusion during which they all discovered girls, and also discovered that Marian was an uncommonly approachable one. As she turned fourteen and certain physical developments occurred, Marian went through a somewhat difficult period of self-discovery after which she finally accepted that she was, in fact, really and irreparably female.
Despite a couple of discrepancies, her OWL results were surprisingly excellent and, education-wise, she has really bloomed this year, coming to realise her potential in subjects she used to think she would fail. During the summer between her fifth and sixth years she visited Jonathan in Egypt and witnessed some of his excavatory efforts, which she found fascinating, and tried to bond with him, which was somewhat disastrous. On the whole, however, he warmed to her, and she takes some comfort in the notion that she does have some semblance of a family.
She has had two romantic relationships, the first of which consisted of three group dates and the second of which lasted four weeks. During her fifth year she passionately promoted her decision not to date anymore, because she found the ordeals hilarious and pointless and was utterly unapproachable during both. While she does not admit it, she has never received a kiss and is staunchly terrified of the idea.
Roleplay Sample:
"Crap."
Marian tumbled out of her bed, fumbling uselessly with the alarm clock as she went. The dormitory was freezing. It had seemed like a good idea last night to get up early for a game of Quidditch on the grounds, but last night rescuing frogs from the lake had also been a good idea, and she remembered vaguely that there had been a great deal of Butterbeer involved. It was the middle of November. She highly doubted that any of the boys were actually going to brave the cold.
But she had promised. Muttering 'crap' over and over like a bizarre sort of mantra, she jumped up and danced desperately from foot to foot, shivering violently as she tried to fetch a decent set of clothes from her trunk. Ollie emerged from beneath a massive blue sweater and hissed irritably at her; not to be cowed, she seized him and hugged him to her chest. He writhed. "Stop it, you're warm," she told him, draping the sweater, a couple of undershirts and a pair trousers over his head. As an afterthought, she fished out two pairs of rolled-up socks. These she pulled on first, allowing Ollie to escape beneath the bed. They cheered her up.
She finished with two quick smears of deodorant, which she wished she did not have to brave because it felt distinctly like swiping two icicles under her arms. Then she ruffled her hair, pulled on a hat and scarf, and went to experimentally crack the window open. "Crap!" she cried, closing it. Earmuffs.
By the time she reached the pitch, she looked like an unnaturally colourful penguin. Her partners in crime had, surprisingly, materialised, and they greeted her with hoots and laughter as she waddled laboriously towards them. Happy she had not crawled back into bed, she mounted her broom and kicked off.
(P.S. It is 4AM and I am very very sleepy, so this sample might not be totally coherent. Usually it would be. I swear!)

Positive Traits:
- Loyalty - Marian is unstoppable in her desire to protect and support those she cares about, making her a valuable friend.
- Honesty - Unless it will cause irreparably hurt feelings, she believes wholly in the value of truth and can voice objective, fair opinions while others are struggling with their emotions.
- Empathy and charity - She is inherently nice and will go out of her way to help people, sometimes in an unconventional fashion.
- Confidence - She is not afraid of voicing her opinions or playing her strengths.
- Morality - She possesses a strong sense of right and wrong which she will not compromise.
- Modesty - At heart, she is gracious and does not any accomplishments - big or small - get to her head, nor does she listen much to compliments.
Negative Traits:
- Fearlessness - Her frequent underestimation of danger can sometimes put her in abnormal situations that she struggles to find her way out of.
- Spontaneity - Though this can be a good thing and is usually endearing, her tendency to rush when excited can sometimes lead her to do or say things that she does not quite mean.
- Stubbornness - Marian is somewhat childish, and this is evident in many areas of her character, not least this. Once decided she is difficult to sway, even if proven wrong.
- Social Unawareness - Her friendliness can sometimes be considered interfering, especially when practised on older people and girls who prefer to stick in tight groups. She is also blind to social hierarchy and can be frustratingly adamant about it. Her relationship with her father has made her very comfortable around adults, which can be misconstrued as disrespectful, and she is utterly blind to the way she can affect people, which is often frustrating.
- Impatience - She often hampers her own progress by becoming frustrated, especially when it comes to schoolwork. If she is bored with something, she will rush and neglect it.
