Specifics:
Mary manages to keep her cool in most situations, and somehow, her hair manages to stay Mary Poppins perfect constantly. Mary views herself as a very calm and rewarding teacher and friend. She gives as good as she gets but keeps her head in pretty much all situations. They run enough circles around their father during the day to need to run them around her too.
Mary likes to think she is intelligent and to some extent a witty conversationist. She doesn’t like the sound of her own voice and likes to speak when spoken to and not make any too far out there comments. Mary sometimes sees herself as a little quiet, and too introverted but keeps this way at work and acts extroverterted around her children. In her two different aspects of life she is two different people, but she likes to keep both lives separate – it helps her to cope with the stresses and strains of both worlds.
To the Outward Eye:
Other people see Mary as a perfectionist. They think that she believes everything has to be perfect, which pressurizes the students into doing their work or working harder to up their grades. The students have respect for her and treat her well and the other staff members tends to leave her out a little seeing her as one of the quieter members of the staff.
Her family see another side to her, they see her as a wacky fun loving mother and wife who likes to get a lot out of life. Her home-life isn’t perfect as school. The house is generally a tip, her children fight and don’t do as they should and she’s pretty certain her husband is fed up with being at home with them all the time,

Mary isn’t one to pick a fight or strike conversation with people first. They have to approach her unless she is In the family circle. Then she is the leader and the one who they can rely on to do the leg work.

History:
Marianna grew up ‘Maria’ in Glasgow, Scotland. She first left the country when she first received her Hogwarts letter, Scotland was her home, and she wasn’t overly keen on leaving it. Alas, once she had left, she never wanted to go back. Hogwarts and Hogsmeade became her home from the moment she took the first step off of the Hogwarts Express. Each holiday she spent in the castle, and only in the summer would she make the journey back south before heading back North and to her Highland home. She loved her family and her parents but there was something about the school that made her want to stay there for good.
On graduating from Hogwarts with reasonable grades, Mary – dubbed as such by her now husband for her tendency to have to have things ‘practically perfect in every way’ – was undecided about where she wanted to go. After doing a stint of work in the Three Broomsticks, she decided that maybe retail and customer services really wasn’t the right job for her, and on seeing an advert in the paper for a teaching position as Potions Master, Mary took her chance at a new life.
Mary has been teaching at Hogwarts for the last fifteen years. The only time she has taken off was when she was forced into Maternity leave by Professor McGonagall who was quoted to have said “I do not want your waters bursting in my classrooms. Thank you very much.” Mary didn’t like being away from work and disrupting the working life of the students. This is why she planned – with the exception of David who was more of an accident that anything – having her children in the summer months. This gave her the optimised amount of time teaching and the least time off.
Mary married the father of her children two years before she found she was pregnant with their first child. She met Lucian during her time at Hogwarts, becoming firm friends with him at the school but only broached a relationship with him as he worked for George Weasley in the Hogsmeade branch of Wheezes. Lucian gave up his job to become a ‘House-Husband’, favouring to look after the children over his wife who loved her work too much to give it up.
Now, at the age of 37, Marianna has seen the last of her child bearing days. She eagerly awaits the day that her first born child, Carrie gets her Hogwarts letter, and the fun begins all over again. The only thing that would make her give up Potions Teaching would be if it caused a problem for any of her children in their time at the school. She wants them all to enjoy it to the maximum, and she doesn’t want to get in their way.
Roleplay Sample:
Mary may have been in Hogwarts with Harry Potter, years below him mind, but that didn’t mean she was going to favour his son when the work he turned in was complete and utter dross. He seemed to miss the entire concept of Potions, just like his father had. Another essay about another potion down and he wasn’t doing any better. If the boy just paid more attention to the things she said she was sure he’d do better. That or she’d need to find him a tutor. Or do it herself.
Sighing to herself and tossing his essay aside she moved on to mark another. She’d brought her work home with her like she did every night, and all she could hear now was David refusing to half bath and Lucian chasing him about the upper floors trying to get him into the bath. Deciding it was probably best left for another time she abandoned her quill and left her work in favour of getting her son cleaned of the Weasley Wizard Wheezes products his brother had subjected him to this time.
On her way to the first floor bathroom, Mary passed her eldest sat in the doorway to her bedroom. She was reading a muggle story, most probably some fairy stories, she didn’t look up from the book as Mary passed so she assumed it was good. Even the shrill shrieks of her younger brother could not deter her from the tale.
On finding her youngest son, she could see that not only had he fallen victim to the latest of the Wheezes, but her middle child and husband had too. She laughed, shaking her head and heading into the bathroom to inspect the damage. When would they ever learn? If it was branded with a W - Don’t Touch It! Sometimes she wondered why she didn’t make them all write lines just to get it into their heads, but she kept school away from home and the punishing was left to her husband.
“Come on Davy,” she mumbled taking the younger boy from her husbands arms and setting him in the empty bath, ”Let’s get you cleaned up, eh?”

Positive Traits:
- Drive – Mary always likes things to be done. Not only does this show through in her teaching approach but in her every day life. Things have to be done to her standards and they have to be done quickly. She’s renowned for setting homeworks due within a couple of days and she expects her students to have the same amount of drive as she does to do things.
- Enthusiasm – Mary wants the kids in her care to do well. She wants each and every one of them to find their niche in life and if that means she has to help them to get them there she will. She loves the subject that she teaches and wants to spread that through the children she teaches.
- Influential – Through her enthusiasm Mary influences the people around her. She motivates the children she teaches and helps them wherever possible so they strive in the subject.
- Dedicated – She just want the children to learn, she is dedicated to her job, to the school, to the students, but above all else to her family. She will always be there for them whenever they need her.
- Calm – She tries not to shout at her classes or children. She does not see the point in it – it will get you know where. She will keep her cool and is more likely to guilt her students into submission.
Negative Traits:
- Need for security – Mary needs her family and those she loves around her. She doesn’t know where she would be without them. She relies on them more than they rely on her.
- Not self-reliant – Mary doesn’t have confidence in herself a lot of the time. As much as she teaches people what to do, and how to do it, she very rarely believes that she is actually doing any good no matter how hard she tries. She needs other to tell her that what she is doing is right and carries on.
- Strict – She doesn’t view herself as strict, but that appears to be the persona she gives off to the children she teaches. They get their work done out of fear that she will give them a detention.
- Competitive – Everything she does has to be done well and it has to be done fast and before everybody else. If the reaches all have to pitch in to do something – she’ll have to be first. Same goes for anything.
- Perfectionism –Some see it as a good things, but it can lead to some things taking longer than they should.
