In Front Of Friends
Sexual Orientation:
Heterosexual
Self Image:
Fly is very pleased with her position in life, she enjoys her work, and loves working for McGonagall and did like working for Dumbledore in his day. She likes the work she does, and is very proud to call herself a Hogwarts House-elf.
To the Outward Eye:
She’s a house-elf. It doesn’t really get lower than that in the eyes of the wizards. They use and abuse them, end of story.
Social Status:
Popular with the house-elves and Oscar, an outcast from the wizarding world.
Positive Traits:
Tidy – Like all house-elves, Fly can clean a room as the click of a finger, well her fingers anyway. Everything is in order and easy to find.
Loyal – House-elves are known for their loyalty to their masters, and even more so when they work under those famous head teachers of Hogwarts.
Willing – Fly will do anything for just about anybody, it’s in her nature as an elf. She’d more willingly do things for the caretaker though, she has a soft spot for him – he seems to get it harder in life than she does.
Hard-working – Always got something productive to do. Even if it is making Oz a new pair of socks.
Respectful – As an elf she scold herself if she ever said a bad word against anybody.
Protective – She will defend everything she has, and believes in until the end. She was a part of the battle back in the day. She wasn’t about to let Hogwarts go down without a fight, and certainly not Mr Harry Potter too.
Negative Traits:
Low self-esteem – She doesn’t really think too highly or herself. She doesn’t need to, to get on with her job.
Naïve – She’ll believe just about anything she is told. So she is easily manipulated, which leads nicely onto…
Trickable – The students tend to set some traps, Slytherins in particular, and if they want something there isn’t a lot she can do about it.
Light-weight – She’ll get drunk on Butterbeer like dear Winky used to.
Self-sacrificing – Throwing yourself in front of danger for other people can be seen as a good thing, but if it’s gunna get you killed it can be a bit of a draw-back.
Interests:
Working – It’s something she likes to do, what would a house-elf be without work?
Helping Oscar – She took a liking to Oscar after he got trouble from the students more than the house-elves ever did. Doing him a favour every now and again is in his best interests and she doesn’t mind. He treats her better than anybody else does.
Knitting – Something Dobby got her into way back when. It allows her creative side to shine through and gives her a break from the hecticness of house-elf life.
Making Chocolate Crunchy Cakes - They taste good and the students like them – what more could you ask for from two ingredients?
Singing – Despite her awful voice, there is a pleasure in singing along to the radio the kitchens has been provided with. She’s not the only one down there singing either.
Likes:
Socks – They keep your feet warm in winter. Ingenius.
Chocolate Crunchy Cakes – Chocolate and corn flakes, taste good apart but even better together!
Oz – He’s an outcast, he’s nice, he’s quiet and he doesn’t offend her.
Christmas – The castle looks pretty, the atmosphere is light and they have to make less food due to the lack of students. It’s an easier time on the elves all together.
Banquets – The variety of food the elves make is extraordinary and it impresses her, even now when she’s been at the school for so long!
Helping Oz – he needs a break once in a while too. He deserves it.
Dislikes:
Slytherins – they’re evil and horrible, and she’s going to go and whack her head in with a lamp for saying that.
Butterbeer – It’s addictive and makes her do weird things.
Dobby – He was a bad influence, even if he did teach her to knit – but she still misses him now he’s gone.
Death Eaters – Again, evil.
Quidditch Matches – The amount of toast they have to make in the kitchens on match days is ridiculous.
Patronus:
If Fly had a patronus, it is likely to be A pair of Flying Socks, she thinks this because they are one of her favourite things, and like her, it is quirky and fun. It would certainly be a laugh for any passing Dementors.
Boggart:
A pair of flying socks attacking her, they just seem so harmless that if they attacked it would freak her out.
World Passing By
History:
Fly has worked in Hogwarts her entire life, she knows nothing else, but she loves it, so she isn’t about to complain. All in all, life could be worse for her. Had He Who Must Not Be Named won the war, she isn’t so certain she would enjoy life so much. That year of Death Eaters at Hogwarts was the worst she remembers. No happiness, dark arts, and Harry Potter nearly met his end- and Dobby did.
They didn’t get to hold a memorial service for him, who would want to remember a house-elf? Alas, he taught her to Knit back when he was on his rebellion streak of asking to be paid and constantly making Harry Potter socks. She liked those things though, they were so funny to look at, but held so much use in them. So she took to making socks too. In Memoriam as it were.
In the years since the war, Fly carried on with her life at Hogwarts as she did before, making Chocolate Crispy Cakes, making food for students, organising the students dormitory mess. That’s the life of a house-elf day in, day out. That was until Oscar came along.
From day one, that she knew him anyway, she felt sorry for him. He got a rough deal compared to anybody else. She gives him extra chocolate crispy cakes, and will occasional use her magic to give him a hand. Especially if has a million other things to do that Scivens won’t. She knits him socks and gave him a pair for his birthday, odd of course. She’d give anything to be able to give him what he wanted – to be a real part of the wizarding world. But as long as he gets to be happy, she’s happy. She’ll live out her house-elf days in peace, continuing to give the students food and clean clothes and pairing their socks.
