Introducing...
Name:
Jubal Reginald Cabbot VII
Age:
August 17th, 16
Gender:
Male
Year:
Year 6
Birthplace:
Cardiff, Wales
Ethnicity:
Caucasian
Blood:
Half-blood
Relatives:
Father: Jubal Reginald Cabbot (Muggle)
Mother: Alice Jane Smith (Witch)
Brother: Reginald Arthur Cabbot (Muggle)
Pets:
Jubal keeps a small tank of snails:
Jerry, Ulric, Dandy and Margaret
Wand Type:
Maple, core of unicorn hair.
Hardly powerful, but particularly accurate. This wand performs better at intricate and detailed work, and provides little in the way of clout – better suited to well thought out defense than sudden and powerful attacks.
Appearance
Picture:
(The flace-claim is not exactly accurate to how I imagine him, so use your imagination to remove the stubble, and shave off about ten years. Its fiction after all!)
Hair Colour:
Dark brown, bordering on black. Usually scruffy and short, it has a tendency to curl when wet.
Eye Colour:
Dark blue, typically shadowed by the bangs or averted and downcast.
Build:
Weedy. With little physical strength and no desire to take part in sports, there is little in the way of definition or size. His limbs are long and his joints pronounced and sharp.
Skin Tone:
Very pale, with a hint of freckles and a low tolerance to sun.
Height:
5’11”
Dress Style:
Fairly causal, with muted colours and uninspiring fashion. The clothes are selected to draw as little attention as possible to the owner, yet somehow they seem to make it easier to make fun of the occupier. Preferring clothes that are subtly smart, they do have a tendency to appear scruffy without due care.
Specifics:
Not a lot. Jubal is uninteresting, unremarkable and many other un- words that would describe such a quite and unassuming character. Should you pay him attention, you’ll notice the gauntness in his face and the permanent vapid expression of apparent confusion. Not exactly a looker, you’ll find more faults than interesting features when taking a close look. His eyes are too close together, his jaw too square, his chin too wide, his upper lip too tall, his filtrum too deep, his mouth too narrow, his teeth too pronounced and his nose too crooked. That’s not to say he’s unsightly, but when in a crowd his’ll be the last face you distinguish. Should you speak with him, you'll notice his Welsh accent, which is usually fairly amusing to any British person.
In Front Of Friends
Sexual Orientation:
Heterosexual, mildly homophobic.
Self Image:
Neutral. Jubal pays little attention to his self image, as he has resigned to the fact that nothing will make him more attractive to those who look for beauty in things before passion. People may see him as he is, despite the teasing that he endures daily.
To the Outward Eye:
Very few people form an opinion on Jubal, and those that do usually develop it from somebody else’s. "Pathetic" and "geeky" would be the first - and probably only - words that spring to mind. Generally he is just a background prop, unimportant and unnoticed. Its doubtful anyone would notice his absence.
Social Status:
A geek, a loser, a nobody. When not being ignored, Jubal is the butt of jokes and picked on by anyone who feels the whim. He’d never fight back, physically or otherwise so is the perfect candidate to any would-be bully.[/
Positive Traits:
As with all teenagers, his personal traits are developed through many instances, of which are too numerous to fully explain. The gist of his personality is due to his exclusion from popular circles, and the natural human need to be accepted in any way possible into these circles that have so cruelly rejected him. Of course this is all subconscious, so unless you're a psychologist, you'd never know...
Negative Traits:
As with his positive traits, Jubal's negative traits are due to his predictable human faults that we all manage to collect over the years. In Jubal's case, he has a habit of repressing any hurtful confrontations, which ultimately build up until he can no longer rally himself to express his good traits.
Skills:
Jubal’s only superior skill is his ability to be very precise and delicate. He excels in Charms, Transfigeration and Arithmancy. Jubal can also speak Welsh, being brought up with parents from England and Wales.
Likes:
Jubal likes snails, for their enigmatic smiles.
Jubal likes the smell of old books, because it makes him happy.
Jubal likes finding the right answers, because deep down he’s egotistical like the rest of us.
Jubal likes bunny rabbits and warm sunny days, because it reminds him of his late Grandma’s favourite painting.
And Jubal does in fact like Marmite, for which he needs no reason.
Dislikes:
Jubal dislikes being shouted at, because its scary.
Jubal dislikes horror movies, because they’re scary too.
Jubal hates spiders, because a socially-learned phobia is hard to shake.
Jubal dislikes being asked questions he doesn’t know the answer to, because it makes him feel unintelligent, which means he’s not good at the one thing he can do.
Jubal does not like peanut butter, for which he needs no reason (but it is disgusting).
Patronus:
Red Fox – Solitary and shy, the red fox is cunning yet wary of people, much like Jubal. The red fox is careful never to overlap his territory, and is always planning for the future.
Boggart:
Jubals boggart has no distinct shape, but takes on the form of a large black mass, with the suggestion of sharp serrated teeth and long talons on skeletal hands. It is in fact the ideal of the “monster under his bed”, of which he has always had a fear of.
World Passing By
Subjects:
Charms (O), Ancient Runes(E), Transfiguration(O/E), History of Magic (E/A) and Arithmancy (O).
Report:
Jubal returns excellent work but although he rarely raises his hand to answer a question.
Personal Statement:
Jubal enjoys all his classes, and is always prompt and prepared.
History:
Jubal's mother, Alice, is a half-blood witch, one of the few that did not attend a institution like Hogwarts. She received the letter, but never went. She finished muggle school, and got a job at a Country Club just outside of Cardiff in Wales. It was here that she met Jubal's father, Jubal Reginald Cabbot VI. He was a wealthy muggle estate owner, from a family of old money. They got together like fire and gasoline and when two people love each other very much... Well, you all know the birds and the bees shindig.
Jubal VI and Alice married as soon as they realised Alice was pregnant. Jubal Junior was born six months into the marriage, and all was well. Alice and Jubal Senior lived happily on the Cabbot Estate, and Jubal Junior was spoilt rotten. Jubal's brother Reginald was born two years later, and Jubal was always happy to play with or babysit his brother.
When Jubal was six years old, strange things began to happen. It was at breakfast one morning when Jubal threw a tantrum because his pancakes were with maple syrup and not honey that suddenly the plates and pancakes began to float. Jubal Senior was - quite understandably - more than a little disturbed. Alice had neglected to mention her heritage, and it was then that the happy couple began to fall apart.
Two months after the pancake incident, Alice and Jubal Senior parted ways. The custody for the boys fell to each of the parents, Jubal being akin with Alice and five-year-old non-magical Reginald stayed with his father.
Jubal Senior still pays all the necessary child benefits, but he and Alice never speak, even when Reginald comes to visit. There is nary a word between them - they have nothing to say.
As expected, Jubal Junior received his Hogwarts letter on his eleventh birthday and decided to attend, despite the anxiety it caused his mother.
Jubal had not been unpopular in primary school, he in fact had a wide range of friends but that all changed when he reached Hogwarts. The First Years here were at that age where discrimination was everything, and Jubal was the prime target. Jubal might not have coped if it wasn't for his uncanny knack for certain subjects so instead of fretting over his social life, Jubal dove into his studies and hasn't surfaced since.
He still spends holidays at home, and he and his mother have a good relationship. His father, however, is still scared of the wizard in him and speaks to him only enough to be polite. His brother had always held a grudge against Jubal for leaving him, and is not as polite as his father about it.
Roleplay Sample:
Hmm, perhaps giving snails legs wasn't the best of ideas. With such small brains, they couldn't quite Transfigure into something more complicated with enough cognitive power to figure out that they were something different. Jubal watched as Margaret - one of his four pet snails - struggled to slime across the desk shaped like a tortoise. Suffice to say, the tortoise did even manage to look confused at its lack of movement.
With a muttered incantation and a precise flick of his wand, Margaret returned to her original shape and sped off across the desk, as much as a snail can speed at any rate. Apparently snails had an uncanny ability to transfigure into anything and look confused. Ever seen a teacup look confused? It was quite a feat.
Picking up Margaret by her mottled brown and grey shell, Jubal peered at her face, watching her stalked eyes flail slowly (snails managed to flail slowly as well, they had many hidden talents) as she looked confused yet again. "Well Maggie, you're certainly a unique snail. Don't you worry, you'll get a nice piece of lettuce for helping me with my Transfiguration homework." With a crooked smile, Jubal stroked the shell of the mollusk and set her down inside her travel-box.
Time for dinner. He could sneak all his snails some food, they'd like that. Snails never showed gratitude, but if they could, Jubal was sure that they would. Standing up from his perch on a rickety stool in one of the study rooms, Jubal put Margaret's box in his bag and swung it over his shoulder. He gathered up his various texts, and left for dinner.
