The fires of Hell. Should he fail God’s test in purgatory, that’s where he believes he will end up.
History:
Oh, there’s a lot. He was born in 1158 Germany into a highly religious family. He followed the way of the Holy Knight and joined the Third Crusade as a Knight’s Templar under the Holy Roman Emperor Frederick I Barbarossa to the Holy Land in 1189. They were the first army to answer the call of the Crusade, and they captured Iconium, the capital of the Sultanate of Rüm.
Their victory was short-lived, however, as on June 10th, 1190, their Emperor’s horse tripped on the back of a rover crossing and Barbarossa died of a heart attack after hitting the rocks. Most of the army returned home, but Samuel was one of the remaining 5000 men who continued. Shortly after that, their bad luck continued and many men fell ill with fever. It was during this time at a coven of opportunistic vampires preyed on the ill men (whose Christian symbols were mostly removed in their sick beds) and Samuel was among the handful that was turned. His death was attributed to fever, and he awoke three nights later having been buried in the sand.
The coven took Samuel in, and he has been with them ever since. He is a trustworthy soul, and after centuries of proving himself time and time again, as well as guarding the coven’s leader, he is entrusted with missions that require a little finesse.

On first meeting Samuel, his sincerity can sometimes be hard to believe. Some might be suspicious of him, though Sam is an open book. If he doesn’t like you, you know about it. He practically wears his heart on his sleeve.
Social Status:
Despite his apparently subservient role, Samuel is a trusted individual and performs many a task that other vampires would not be trusted with. He follows authority well, but never considers himself to be better than others.
Skills:
- Negotiation. Sam can be highly reasonable, and has a knack of calming irate vampires. And of words don’t work? Well, he can always out-man them.
- Languages. Not surprisingly, after 800+ years, you learn a lot of languages. Sam can speak many European languages, as well as some dialects in Japanese, Chinese, Taiwanese and even some Native American tongues.
- Swordplay. As well as being a peacekeeper, Sam recognises the need for violence in certain situations. His primary weapon is a sword, but he has been known to carry guns in more dire situations. Maces, axes, bow and arrow, Samuel hobbies include learning every new weapon humans can devise.
Likes:
- Christianity. Okay so he can’t touch the Bible without so much as second degree burns, but Samuel is as much devoted to his faith now as he had been when he was alive. His voice can sometimes be a little husky, so you know when he’s been reciting those blessed Bible passages from memory.
- Black and white. Shades of grey are troublesome for this vamp, so he has a better day’s sleep when justice is easily wrought.
- His family. He may have lost his mortal family, but Samuel has a great deal of loyalty to those close to him. He still follows his sire, and has even taken a wife though the ceremony was a little unorthodox.
Dislikes:
- Making decisions for himself. Samuel has never truly been his own man, and that’s the way he likes it. He follows orders to the letter, unless his unwavering morality interferes.
- Sinners. He’d not as quick to enforce the Lords word as he once was, but Sam frowns on committing a sin, and he himself will force someone to endure his confession once in a while.
Boggart:
The fires of Hell. Should he fail God’s test in purgatory, that’s where he believes he will end up.

Roleplay Sample:
He stood, picking his travelling robes from the table in one hand and his wineglass in the other. He swallowed the last of it with a grimace as if he was unaccustomed to the sour taste, wove his way between the jostling clientele and set the empty glass on the bar. Despite the bustling patrons and having been sat across the room, he’d heard everything the young couple had exchanged even when a person not more than three feet away would not have. For vampires, senses only became more acute with age.
The girl had bid her goodnight and Samuel cleared his throat as he leaned both elbows on the bar with a pointed look towards the boy. “Excuse me, sir, might you direct me toward the Three Broomsticks?” His voice had a not-quite-British accent, something European tainted it, though it was so diluted you wouldn’t be able to guess. The habit of talking tight-lipped was so natural now that it did not impede his speech. Flashing fangs was guaranteed to blow your cover.
Normally, talking to a man you were investigating was not exactly protocol, but Samuel took a more personal approach to his work. It was unlikely Edward would remember him in the future. He was so average that he was just another anonymous face in the crowd, someone to instantly dismiss. His hair was cropped not-too short, and was a light nameless brown. His face had a day or two’s worth of stubble and he had no distinguishing marks to speak of. Even his eyes were a shade of dark blue that tended not to warrant more than a quick glance. His clothes were not too out-of-fashion wizard-wear, neutral and colour and not striking in any way. On the outside, he was incredibly unremarkable; the inside was another matter entirely.
