If Mackenzie was surprised at how things were progressing then Quentin was astonished. Before that day private study time with Miss Hope had been an unattainable dream, an opportunity that Quen had lamented about not having to Kale many a time, generally including lengthy discussion of just how blonde a floofy her hair was and a grudging admittance on Quen’s part that she might be somewhat intelligent to boot. He hadn’t even been entirely certain she knew him more than to match a name to a face so that when test scores got handed back she could glare at him if he beat her. And yet there he was, talking to her, walking with her. In public.
Even her rejection of his rather chivalrous offer couldn’t put a damper on his mood or knock his soaring confidence. Sure carrying her books would have as good as signalled to the entire school that they were an item, but that would have been too good to be true and if Mackenzie was smart enough to transfigure inanimate objects to live ones on the spot then she was definitely smart enough not to fall for that trick. Holding hands was probably off the agenda too then. And the whole yawning to slip an arm around her shoulders thing was definitely out. Quen would just have to settle for what popularity boost walking along beside her in an unmistakably platonic way could bring him. Beggars can’t be choosers.
”Thanks,” He grinned at her, managing not to blush through sheer will power alone. No girl had ever called him sweet before. Not that he’d ever given them much reason to when he and Kale went around teasing, wolf-whistling and generally behaving like total douches to any girls they found even remotely attractive. ”I don’t break out the chivalry for just any girl, you know,” Quen said, rather smoothly, he thought. ”It’s gotta be somebody special.”

Mackenzie smirked, poor guy thought he had trapped her, but he was the one who had walked into a trap. It was like that with all the boys she reeled in, they thought they were the ones in control, and she let them believe it, but she made sure she was always in control with these kind of situations. But it was very amusing to see these boys act like they had it all in control, having them act like that made things much more exciting.
"I'm sure it has to be someone special," She smiled over at him as they came to a stop outside the library, she paused and leaned against the wall, looking at him with her bright blue eyes. "But just how special?" She asked, raising a blond eyebrow skeptically before turning and opening the door to the library and vanishing down the many rows of books. She didn't turn to see if his was following, he would, and she knew it. The blond found a seat in the very back of the library before sitting down and dropping her books.

Quen was a little disappointed when they came to a stop just outside the library, he’d been hoping for somewhere more private for their one on one study time. Then he realised that the library was perfect. Ravenclaws were the only people who actually spent any length of time in there and there were plenty of remote bookshelves that they could secret themselves away behind. The thought of making out in the library appealed to him, he was a Ravenclaw too after all and if they got caught it would be all over school in no time. He could already picture the look on Kale’s face if he heard from somebody else that Quen had been lip locked with one of the prettiest girls in school in a public place.
”How special?” Quen echoed uncertainly, if this was a test it was rather unfair. A girl couldn’t ask a guy to quantify just how much he liked her, especially when they’d literally only hooked up about five minutes beforehand. That put him in the dangerous territory of sounding sappy, overly emotional and even potentially a bit of a creepy stalker. ”Oh, you know,” He said, dutifully following past shelf upon shelf of books to the back of the library. ”Just somebody amazingly pretty, with a cute smile and a talent for transfiguration.” Quen sat himself down next to her, turning in his seat and leaning in closer than perhaps was strictly necessary for studying. ”So, where do you want to start?”

When it came to boys Mac honestly didn't care where she was, for her guys came and went, it was as natural as breathing to her. She could tell that her question made Quen uncomfortable, and she knew why, because boys knew that one wrong word to her and they were out, no questions asked. After all there was always another boy willing to keep her company, and she and Quen both knew it. Mac sat down at the table and couldn't help but smirk inwardly when she saw how close he was leaning towards her, no one would believe for one minute that they were studying.
"Aww thanks," She said with her cute smile plastered on her face genuinely. When he asked his question she raised an eyebrow as if thinking before she spoke. "Let's start, with this." She said as she leaned forward and kissed him.

Contrary to popular belief (or at least he liked to think it was popular belief) Quen didn’t get to talk to the pretty popular girls on a daily basis. In fact it almost never happened to him and so he sort of couldn’t believe his luck. He wished he could somehow take a picture of the moment so he could prove to Kale beyond a doubt that it really had happened (and possibly to save a copy for his own private use). His heart was hammering in his chest and he was pretty sure if his hands hadn’t been resting on the table before him they’d be trembling.
He didn’t get a chance to respond before her lips were on his. His eyebrows shot up in surprise and he was too stunned to move for a couple of seconds. Then his brain caught up, reminding him that he was blowing his chance to make out with one of the most popular girls in school. He kissed back, tentatively at first, but quickly gaining confidence. Quen twisted in his chair, his fingers tracing up one of her arms until his hand was cupping her cheek, his lips moving against hers all the while. After a couple of seconds he pulled away, forehead still resting against hers and a definitely cat that got the cream grin on his face. ”Wow.”
