ooc: why no, Idris isn't trying to kill Hufflepuffs. Whatever would give you that idea...?
Idris was not an evil genius, as much as he'd like to think he was. Unfortunately, to be an evil genius required an intelligence beyond even his own, and as disappointed as this made him, it was probably for the best. After all, he already had enough trouble convincing people he wasn't guilty of murders he hadn't committed and he got frustrated when he didn't get credit for the problems he did cause (despite the fact he realised that such a thing was good – being caught meant being arrested, and he didn't really fancy a spell in Azkaban).
The fact he wasn't an evil genius was going to be his only defence after this trip, as well. He'd arranged it prior to McGonagall's announcement and prior to the attacks of the now infamous vampire (and god, did it make him laugh to hear people accusing that self-righteous Gryffindor, Connery, of being the beast), but it had taken all of his skill with the English language to convince McGonagall that he would, in fact, be able to take care of the students and yes, they were sixth years, they could probably defend themselves long enough. That Shiro was a sixth year managed to go unmentioned, thankfully.
Originally, the plan had been to try and get the students to track down creatures and collect something as proof, splitting them up into groups for thestrals, unicorns, centaurs and squirrels. With the attacks, though, he was going to have to modify his plans and they were shifting the lesson to just before dusk, just to reassure McGonagall that no one was going to get eaten. Idris knew they'd be in there longer than she anticipated, though – some of the students were either so dense or so uncaring that they just didn't seem to pick anything up, and he'd be damned if they did this trip again any time soon. There were beers he could be drinking! Maybe a few Hufflepuffs would get hurt, that would certainly piss Grey off...
He glanced up from his notebook, a few jottings written down to remind him that this was, in fact, a lesson, and he grumbled to himself. Where were the blasted students? It wasn't that hard to forget you were going into the Forbidden Forest, was it?

OOC: You so totally are trying to kill them all! He already killed one... *looks shifty* I kid I kid...
Seth headed down to the edge of the forest on his own. Ash was off doing whatever he was doing, and August well, who knew. Care of Magical Creatures was one of his favourite lessons. He loved learning about all the different animals he could encounter in this world opposed to his home one. He was used to Lizards and cats, this was pixies and Blast-ended Skrewts. Though getting his hand blown off wasn't exactly something he looked forward too on a daily basis, the animal still fascinated him. If he took up a career in the Magical world, he'd probably choose something in this field.
Seth for one hadn't forgotten they were going to the forest, he could see an irritated Argall standing on the outskirts and sped up his pace. He didn't want to give the guy any more reason to hate him. He was never quite sure what the Professor had against him. He always did his work on time and did everything asked of him in lessons. Maybe it was just in spite of Grey and the Hufflepuff students. Argall did appear to have severe favouritism problems with his house.
There was one Hufflepuff student, or rather ex-student, that annoyed Argall off more than any others, and that was their ghost. Seth, like most people, was unclear as to what had actually happened between the pair, but it was almost certain that the couple had been exactly that - a couple. Which was one thing that confused Seth about the guy either more. He appeared to hate everybody, so why open up to somebody so different from him?
Finally reaching the area that Idris was stood in, Seth kept his hand on his bag and smiled warily at the teacher before looking through the trees into the forest. This would certainly be a lesson to remember - especially if somebody got bitten.

The first instinct Marian had about this particular lesson was to be excited. Besides, Ollie was in a temper so utterly unbearable that she reasoned even the Forbidden Forest would be better than staying in the castle with that monster. There was nothing wrong with taking some risk, she reassured herself cheerfully as she walked across the grass. It would keep her on her guard.
Would have been a hell of a lot more reassuring had they been doing Defense.
As she neared the edge of the Forest, she could see Professor Argall waiting alone, head bent over his notebook. She should have been surprised that everyone was so late, but she was not. They were procrastinating the inevitable. They had been doing it for hours. Had it been summer, they would still have turned inside, insisting they needed more scarves and hats for the cold.
"Sorry I'm late, professor," she said, coming to a stop. She gave Seth a grin, then adjusted her bag and her posture, waiting. The state of her hair indicated that she had she had either been playing a very competitive game of Quidditch or been tackled head-first into a pile of leaves. When it came to Marian, either was viable.

Rose shouted after Marian as she danced down the castle steps, but her friend did not hear, and didn't stop. Winding her enormous scarf more tightly about her throat and trotting across the dewy grass, she watched her breath curl into the chilly air and hurried up to the three people standing on the edge of the forest.
She smiled brightly at the shy Seth and winking at Marian conspiratorially behind the teacher's back, Rose waited. This was not even half their class and she imagined they would be standing for a few minutes in the cold until the rest of the class remembered the lesson and recovered sufficiently from the horror of it to attend.
The Forbidden Forest... she turned to look at it. She had never been in there, but her brother had described it on many occasions. Lucy was never out of the bloody place and James was just as bad. Gryffindors, Rose thought, hiding her face in her scarf, who'd have them?

August tripped down the steps to the entrance of the school, arms flailing wildly as he tried to keep his balance, bringing himself back from brink of a total fall at the very last second. He didn't slow his pace at all to recover, instead he stumbled onwards at a half jog, worried that he was going to be late for their trip into the forest. Professor Argall would be angry with him... well, more angry, nothing he did seemed to please the bad tempered Slytherin Head of House.
His scarf was trailing precariously behind him as he ran across the lawn, the end of it only just wrapped around his neck in a rather haphazard fashion. August only had on one mitten, the other had been misplaced somewhere, or, had he bothered to check, he would have realised it was cunningly hidden in the pocket of his robes. He curled the fingers of his mitten-less hand into a fist, tucking his thumb into the grip to try and preserve warmth.
"Rose, Marian, Seth." He greeted warmly, grinning with pleasure as though he was gleefully surprised that his fellow classmates had actually turned up to a lesson they'd shared together for several years. As always his observation skills left a lot to be desired and he totally missed that Professor Argall was already there so he kept chatting away happily, not waiting quietly like the rest of the Hufflepuffs. "Isn't this class going to be exciting! August gushed, bouncing up onto his toes for a moment. "Actually I'm a little bit scared and I lost my glove." He pouted.

Marian puffed out her cheeks at Rose, then grinned, shifting slowly from foot and foot to counter the cold. She should, by all rights, have been worried, since her last experience with the Forest had been more than a little confusing and she still was not sure what had happened, but she was not one to dwell. She had chalked up the entire episode to exhaustion. In any case, she could not remember much. What had she done again? Fallen asleep against a tree?
She had to stifle a laugh while August spoke - how on earth could he not make anyone happy? - until, very neatly, she leaned over and plucked the missing mitten from his pocket. She held it out to him helpfully.

The first person to turn up was a damn Hufflepuff. Typical. He mentally berated his own house and decided that he'd be having a few words with them for forgetting that being punctual was a good thing, not a bad one. Half of them were so self-absorbed, though... He sighed in despair. Oh, for the days he'd been at school... Actually, his time at Hogwarts had been utter bollocks, so maybe it was better that things weren't the same any more. He could only hope. He noticed the boy smiling – Seth, he thought, one of the ones he could probably tolerate to some degree – and nodded, marking off his name on the small list he had in his hand. He hated registers with a passion.
Another student popped up – Hufflepuff, argh! - and he shook his head, letting out a “woe is me” sort of sigh. ”You and the rest of the school's population,” he muttered, not excusing her exactly but still not pleased that he'd been waiting for this long. The girl that was at her side, the Weasley, looked a little scared, and deep down he was a bit pleased. At least she was admitting that she was scared of going in, everyone else was just being an utter coward. Another Huffle turned up and Idris rolled his eyes. So much for politeness.
”I hope you know where your wand is, Jensen,” he said, marking the names off his list and bringing a hand up to the bridge of his eyes, rubbing his forehead as a headache started developing. It was too early for this, and he'd forgotten to pick up his hip flask. Probably a good thing, all things considered – if anyone died on his watch, he'd be out of the school faster than you could say Vampire. ”Is this it?” he asked, voice filled with annoyance. ”Of the entire bloody sixth year, only four Hufflepuffs are going to attend the lesson?”
He shook his head, folded up the register and shoved it in his pocket. ”So much for the brave Gryffindors, then.” And yes, he'd be having major words with his own students later on. He looked at the students with mild disinterest. ”Please keep together, then. I had been hoping to send you off in groups, but if there's only the four of you then it might be in your best interests to stick together. And keep an eye out for the Centaurs, they're getting a little irritable about us trespassing in the Forest so often lately.” He'd tried to have words with them, but to no use. They were even grumpier than he was.
”I ought to ask – how many of you can see a thestral?” It was going to be awkward. He wasn't sure any of the unicorns would be out, centaurs were being moody and might shoot at them, and they certainly couldn't go track the vampire, as much fun as it would be. That only really left thestrals, which he wouldn't personally mind. Or unicorns – they'd just have to hope. ”If none of you can, then scratch them off your list.” He paused. ”You did bring your list, didn't you?”

"I can," Siren said quietly from the back of the group, where she'd been so far unnoticed after sneaking up late to join her fellow sixth-years for what looked to be a dangerous - and exciting - lesson. "And yes, I'm sure everyone present brought their lists. Hufflepuffs are rarely irresponsible."
And Siren rarely stood up for anyone else, but something about the man's tone irked her. He just seemed outrageously pompous - and as aloof as Siren herself was, she couldn't stand pompous people. It was even worse than a cold shoulder. It was simply maddening.
Recognizing August and Marian, she threw both of them a small smile. "No chance of taking a look at the vampire, I'd imagine?" she added, in a slightly bored tone. "I would like to have a chat with the Centaurs about how they're dealing with it."

Speak of the devil and he shall come.
Apparently the same logic worked with thestrals too. Drawn out of the forest by the sound of a group of people, and most importantly, Idris, Tenebrus made his slinking way through the trees to figure out what exactly was going on behind his back. Idris wouldn’t do anything without him! No way! He wasn’t allowed to do anything without him! Maybe Idris was leaving him?
Oh no.
Filled with a crushing sense of dread the thestral doubled his pace and eventually came across the small group of four yellow human foals, a blue one, and the all holy provider of cow carcasses that was Idris. The teacher was being his usual lead mare self, which made Tene feel a little better. So he was shepherding younger human herd members around? Good, he had an excuse. He hadn’t quite figured out how human herd structure worked yet, but he was sure he was getting it.
Speaking of the students, one looked vaguely familiar. Haha! The August one that had sandwiches! Tenebrus’s previous misgivings were completely lifted at the presence of two individuals who were proven feed providers. The greedy one who had refused to let him eat the rat wasn’t here, which was a good thing too.
With a small, low squeal to show he was happy to see them, Tenebrus practically burst right through the little mob of yellow students (much to Idris’s amusement most likely) in order to sniff Idris’s hair and try and nudge his chest a few times with his nose like a lovesick puppy.
Fooood?

Alexis ran down over the lawn to attend the class she'd completely forgotten about at lunch. She'd stuffed a few rolls into her pocket to hopefully nibble on since she had been starving and still was. By the time she got down to the forest where the class were to meet before hand she was panting from the cold air constricting her lungs and made it hard to breathe. "S..sorry, for being late professor." she pressed out to the professor just hoping he didn't deduct points from her house for being late.
Glancing around the group she wrapped her falling scarf tighter around her neck and brushed some hair out of her face before digging in her bag for a book and the list Professor Argall was speaking about. Standing near the group of Hufflepuffs since they were more familiar to her from her brother being in the same house. She smiled in greeting at all of them murmuring a little "Hi"
What was he talking about.. oh right, Thestrals. But..what are Thestrals? Oh right.. the invisibleunlessyou'veseensomeonekickthecan creatures. She's missed the short lesson on them before in her third year from being ill and was getting excited thinking about them.
She didn't raise her hand when Argall asked whether or not anyone could see them since she didn't think she could even if she'd seen her paternal grandfather fall in the kitchen when she was seven. He didn't die until a few days later..right? Shaking her head a bit to clear her mind of the memory she started to scratch off the name Thestral on her list, glancing over at Siren when she commented on the Hufflepuffs, smiling a bit since they usually did have everything needed for class.
She shrieked in surprised when she heard the squeal of delight and then this tall bony winged-horse creature came bounding out of the trees and busting through the group of Hufflepuffs. Dropping her book and parchment in surprise she stared at the thing snuggling up to the professor. "Okay.. apparently I can see them" she muttered more to herself than anyone else though it was loud enough for others to hear.
