Kris had spent most of the night in comfortable silence, spending it with Rhys. Ever since Jasper had gone off in pursuit of his latest toy (or so the other Ravenclaw said), the younger male had been rather lonely. He'd seen him at the ball, standing on the sidelines as if it was the most comfortable place he could possibly be. He had wondered why the boy had bothered to show up at all, though he guessed he was mostly there to keep an eye on Toby. It was cute how protective he got, or in some cases, possessive.
The other boy had decided to head up to bed early after playing a few games of wizard chess in the corner. Kristian had said nothing as he headed up, only whispered out a soft sleep well as the other retreated to his room, out of his hearing distance. He knew full well what was troubling the other, but they weren't really used to talking to each other. Instead they sat together, exchanged a few random comments, played a few games. That was it. And now Kris was waiting up, wondering whether or not he'd see Jasper in the Common Room anytime soon. He had half a mind to go and confront him, though he wasn't sure what he would say.

It was rather late, and the portrait that led into the Ravenclaw common room most definitely should not have been swinging open at this hour.. but it was. Jasper Cole climbed into the common room, running his hand through rather messy hair. His uniform was askew, especially the tie. He'd never worn it properly because he couldn't stand it, but there was something different about it this time. He'd just returned from the Hufflepuff common rooms and it was rather a trek, the Huff commons being all the way down by the kitchens. Jasper had almost gotten caught twice.
Biting down onto his lip, Jasper sighed. It felt weird to not feel metal on his lips when he clamped his teeth down onto it. Thanks to that dare that Amelia Pace from Gryffindor had given him, Jasper had to go without piercings or make up for an entire week. As much as he didn't like looking so plain, Jasper wasn't a chicken shit and he went through with it. His lips and ears were bare, as were his eyes. They were completely lacking the usual smudged thick black eyeliner.. or guyliner as Jasper like to affectionately call it.
Blue-green eyes glanced up, scanning over the common room. At this time of night, he'd expected it to be completely bare. A soft sigh escaped from his lips as his gaze fell upon Kristian Lytton. He was a friend of Rhys, and sometimes Jasper got the feeling that Kris didn't care for him very much.. but other times, he got the feeling that Kris really wasn't that bad. Deciding to simply nod in the other's direction as a half arsed greeting, Jasper made his way towards the fireplace and lowered himself onto the floor in front of it. He then began to dig into his pocket for something.

Kristian watched him enter the Common Room, noticing that the other looked a little off. At first he figured that the boy was tired, but then he noticed the distinct lack of piercings. It wasn’t until the light of the fire had hit his face that he noticed, the lack of reflection on the pierced parts of his face. He frowned for a moment, nodding back when Jasper acknowledged him silently. He wasn’t as into the dares as some of the other students seemed to be – honestly after that whole ordeal in the forest with the thestrals...he had definitely learned his lesson -–so he wasn’t aware of what had happened between Amelia and Jasper yet.
”Hey Jasper” He decided to head over to the fire as well, wondering still if there was anything he should say. Eventually he settled on a casual ”You just missed Rhys..He went to bed not ten minutes ago” It really was none of his business what was going on between the two, but the other seemed so lonely and sad. Even if Kris hadn’t said anything about it, he had seen the small marks on the boys wrist. It had made him feel incredibly sad, and some of that sadness was still reflected in his green eyes.

Jasper leant his back up against a leg of one of the chairs, sprawling his legs out on the floor in front of him as he continued to dig inside of his pocket. The heat from the fire was spreading through his feet already and it felt nice, especially due to how worn out he was feeling. As Kris approached him, Jasper glanced up at him while finally yanking out a small odd looking pipe and a bag of weed. He didn't think Kris was the kind of person to snitch on someone, and Jasper didn't think twice about ripping the bag open and beginning to pack it. Plus, Jasper was pretty sure that if he absolutely had to, he could intimidate Kris into keeping his mouth shut.
"Hey Kris," Jasper replied as he continued to pack. "Oh, did I? I haven't seen much of him lately.." There was an odd sort of tone to his voice. It was almost as if Jasper didn't want to talk about Rhys but at the same time he felt genuinely bothered that he hadn't had much interaction with the boy lately. If this scenario had of happened say, a week or so ago, Jasper would have bid Kris goodbye, gone up those stairs, and climbed into bed with his sleeping best friend. But now that he was getting somewhere with Gale, Jasper just felt odd and guilty doing something like that.
"Do you smoke?" It was a casual question. He wasn't one of those people to force weed on someone else, but he figured that he would be polite. Once he finished packing it, Jasper closed the bag and stuffed it back into his pocket. Then he produced his wand. He was going to use it to light up.

Sitting down on the floor next to him, Kristian wondered whether or not Jasper knew about the cutting. They had seemed to share everything for a long time, but lately people were more likely to find them alone than together. Kris couldn’t help asking himself to what extent either of them were doing this on purpose. He cared a lot about the quiet boy, regardless of whether or not they talked a lot. He still felt like he understood him on some basic level, but he wasn’t sure what went through his brain when he shied away from everyone, including Jasper.
”I noticed” Kris looked at the weed, wondering what it would be like to get high. He had seen people (most of them at the club) using drugs, but had never been in the situation to use. He wasn’t sure whether or not he would like it, but he was curious all the same. His father had often been vicious when drunk, but if he was careful, he wouldn’t get addicted or hurtful, would he? So he simply nodded when the other Ravenclaw casually asked him whether or not he wanted a smoke. Maybe it would help to get the two of them talking.
”He doesn’t seem to be doing so well. The only time I see him smile is when he’s just disappeared into the bathroom for a while.” It was said quietly, green eyes staring up at Jasper, wondering what he’d say. It was obvious that Rhys didn’t go to the bathroom to answer nature’s call, though for now he’d leave the interpretation up to the others best friend.

Jasper simply grinned and pointed his wand at the bowl. "Incendio." He stated this casually, the weed lighting up briefly as he puffed on it. Pulling the bowl away from his mouth, Jasper set the wand on his lap and held the smoke in his lungs as long as he could before turning his head away from Kris and blowing it out into the air. Weed had a distinct smell to it, and it quickly began to fill the area. After a few moments, Jasper offered his bowl to Kris.. along with his wand, because the way he was smoking it required the weed to be lit every time someone took a hit on it.
It took a little bit for Jasper to keep from visibly twitching as he heard Kris mention Rhys only smiling when he was slipping into the restroom. Jasper wasn't stupid, he knew what Rhys was doing when he went for a bathroom break. He sighed, running his hand through his two-toned hair and watching Kris carefully with his weed. "If he wants to be stupid enough to cut, I can't seem to stop him.. believe me, I've tried." Jasper paused. "It just seems like he doesn't really want anything to do with me anymore." And even though he appeared somewhat casual about it on the outside, it really bother Jasper.. a lot.

Kristian took the bowl, having watched Jasper intently while he was taking a hit from the weed. He had never done this before, had never imagined himself doing it, but it was a lot less terrible or awkward as he’d imagined, as he repeated what the other Ravenclaw had done. The smoke kind of burned in his lungs for a moment, making him cough a little as he exhaled, wondering what kind of effect the drug would have on him. It was an interesting experiment, albeit not one he was going to repeat anytime soon.
"It just seems like he doesn't really want anything to do with me anymore."
He had listened to him in silence, wincing when Jasper was so careless about mentioning the cutting. So he did know. He didn’t seem to care a whole lot about it though, or perhaps that was all just an act. Maybe deep down, Jasper was furious and frustrated about it. Kris sure hoped so. He passed the drug back to Jasper, mulling over his last statement for a while. The last thing he wanted was to cause a fight between the two, but he did feel that what the other was saying was unjust. ”He misses you. You’re spending a lot of time with Gale and I think he feels hurt. Like he’s replaced.”

Jasper grinned a bit as Kris began to cough, taking the bowl and his wand back. He reached out, casually patting Kris on the back. "Careful.. You're not used to this, are you?" Jasper wondered for a brief moment if Kris had even smoked before. He didn't really seem the type. Perhaps he'd only agreed because he wanted to talk to Jasper about Rhys. Lifting the bowl back to his lips, Jasper lit it and inhaled once again. Once he released the smoke, Jasper was careful not to blow it in Kristian's direction. It usually took him a bit to get high, so he hadn't started feeling it yet but he knew he definitely wanted to get to that point tonight. Especially if Kris were going to pull thoughts of Rhys into his mind.
Jasper's eyebrows furrowed a bit as Kris spoke, tilting his head back against the arm of the couch as he passed the drug back to his new smoking partner. "I'm not replacing him. Rhys is always going to be my best friend. I love him dearly." Ever since meeting Rhys, Jasper had been able to be quite vocal about how how he felt about their friendship, even though he'd always been closed off before. Rhys was just that damn special to him. "Gale just.. he makes me happy in a different way. Rhys needs to stop being so damn moody." A low growl escaped from his throat, bit he bit his lip, desperately not wanting for his bipolar to flare up while he was talking about this with Kris.
"If he won't come and talk to me about it, there really isn't much I can do.."

Kristian smiled a little when Jasper told him to be careful, leaning back against the couch and watching him as he took another hit, then began to talk. He hadn’t really been doing this just to get the conversation going, but it definitely helped. He wanted to help Rhys so badly, but what was there to say to his friend when he wouldn’t even talk to Jasper about his feelings? Something needed to happen to snap them out of whatever this was supposed to be. Even if it meant pushing one of them to the edge and forcing them to talk.
Kris wasn’t often a very nosy person, but he cared for Rhys and the fact that Jasper had been so blasé about the cutting really got to him. When he had found out he had even shed a couple of tears, and he wasn’t ashamed to admit it. The younger boy just seemed so lost sometimes.
"Gale just.. he makes me happy in a different way. Rhys needs to stop being so damn moody."
Biting his lip, the boy wondered how to phrase this, then decided, as he took another hit, that he would just see how the conversation went. ”I don’t think he’s being moody on purpose. Rather...he feels like you’re abandoning him. Like you don’t need him around anymore.” Sometimes he had felt like wrapping arms around Rhys, just to make him feel that Jasper wasn’t the only one who could hold him and make him feel loved. He had never really tried though, sure that it wouldn’t be appreciated.
”There is something you can do” Kristian insisted, not hesitating in meeting Jaspers eyes. ”Spend time with him. Cuddle with him, like you used to do. Hell, I know that you’ve shared a bed so many times and now you don’t anymore. Can you really blame him for feeling lost? How would you feel if he started being all cuddly and affectionate to someone else?”

It wasn't that Jasper didn't care about Rhys cutting himself. It was quite the opposite, but it was just something that Jasper had grown used to by now. While he hated it and if he happened to catch Rhys in the act it made him livid, Jasper knew that Rhys wouldn't stop. When Jasper was in his proper state of mind, he knew there was no point in getting upset. One of his mistakes was thinking that as long as he was around, Rhys would never really try to seriously kill himself. Perhaps he took it for granted.
This time, as Jasper took a hit, he took an exceptionally long one. The seventh year held it within his lungs until he felt like they were about to burst and he blew the smoke out, almost instantly taking another hit. Kris was going to strike a nerve. In fact, he was already beginning to, and Jasper figured the best way to deal with this would be to just get as high as he could as quickly as possible. He paused now, glancing at Kris, beginning to feel pretty good. His eyes weren't quite getting glassy yet, but it was obvious he was slightly starting to feel the effects.
Jasper narrowed his eyebrows at Kris, not liking what he was saying one bit. How was this any of his business? It wasn't. Kris was a nice guy but he was sticking his nose in somewhere it didn't belong and Jasper practically bit his tongue. "Listen, I don't really think this is your place to talk. You don't really know what's going on and you're making assumptions. If you're not careful, you're going to end up making yourself look stupid." His voice wasn't stern, it was rather calm, a good sign that he wasn't quite getting heated yet.. but stating his thoughts. He passed the bowl back to Kris. "Rhys knows I care about him.. and he can't expect me to sleep in his bed and hang all over him if I have a boyfriend. What do you two expect of me? To be single and celibate for as long as Rhys is my best friend?" Jasper felt he had a valid point here.
