Hazel was grateful when Kris seemed to take the cue she wanted to talk about something else and she sat up a little bit, quickly clearing her face of any left over moisture, or other unpleasant trace of sadness. She listened as he told her what was going on.
“I’m good. Nothing much to tell, I’m afraid. Just...same old thing. School, friends, work”
Hazel nodded before pausing. “I didn’t know you had a job.” Hazel said. “I was thinking of maybe getting a part time job; do you like what you’re doing?” She asked. She didn’t want to ask him too many questions he might not be comfortable answering. Some people just didn’t like their jobs and hated talking about it; she wasn’t sure if that’s what the deal with Kris was or not though. Honeydukes would be her student dream job, candy and fun, it didn’t get much better than that.
“I think I’m going to head to Hogsmeade soon, do some Christmas shopping. Would you like to come with?”
“Thank you, that would be nice.” Hazel agreed with a smile. “I need to get a little bit done still; I could take you to lunch to thank you for this, if you’ll let me.” She offered. She wanted to do something to thank him for being so supportive of her, he really hadn’t needed to. “Who are you shopping for?” She asked curiously.

“I didn’t know you had a job. I was thinking of maybe getting a part time job; do you like what you’re doing?”
Kris let out a slow breath when she mentioned his job, trying not to show how uncomfortable he was talking about that subject. Luckily the question she asked was easy to answer without telling her exactly what line of work he was in. ”Not really...It’s more, well, it makes good money, which is what I need” He gave her a smile, stopping the fidgeting with his clothes because it might start to look conspicuous. ”I wouldn’t be able to go to Hogwarts without my job, so I guess that makes up for it.” The Ravenclaw was hoping he could leave it at that.
He was glad when she smiled and agreed to go to Hogsmeade with him. Apparently he wasn’t all that awful at distracting her, and he nodded when she offered to take him to lunch. Normally he’d be the gentleman and refuse to let her pay for anything, but well, he really needed the money. Especially with Christmas coming up. Also, he wanted to buy his boyfriend something special, though he wasn’t sure whether or not he’d even be allowed to give him a present after he talked to Louis. He was planning on doing this tonight, so taking Hazel to Hogsmeade was as much a distraction for her as it was for him.
”I want to get something nice for mum. I might spend some of the holidays with Louis and his family, so I want to get her something extra special. And then I need presents for Louis and his parents and everything. Which is...rather scary” The boy admitted with a laugh. ”I’m not too good at shopping for anyone but myself. Which is why your input would be highly appreciated.”

“Not really...It’s more, well, it makes good money, which is what I need. I wouldn’t be able to go to Hogwarts without my job, so I guess that makes up for it.”
“Oh well, it’s too bad you don’t like it. Hopefully something else will come along that will pay you what you need.” She said, leaving it at that. Some of her optimism was returning at least. The way he seemed to fidget his job seemed to be a sore spot for him. She didn’t want to bring any extra stress to him, so she left it at that. She smiled when he nodded his consent to let her take him to lunch. She really did appreciate what he had done for her. He went on to tell her about the gifts he needed.
“I want to get something nice for mum. I might spend some of the holidays with Louis and his family, so I want to get her something extra special. And then I need presents for Louis and his parents and everything. Which is...rather scary”
“Oh well, that would be nice to spent time with him and his family, but yes a special something for your mum would be nice. I don't think you have any reason to be scared, I'm sure everything will go fine!” Hazel assured him. She thought about what she still needed to buy, she had gotten her father a shirt with his favorite quidditch team on it, for Nigel she had gotten a book, and her grandparents she had knitted replica house scarves for them. “I’m debating on what to get for my own mother, and my oldest brother. Alton always proves to be particularly difficult to shop for. Plus I have a few friends to shop for; I’m thinking honeydukes and zonkos for them though.”
“I’m not too good at shopping for anyone but myself. Which is why your input would be highly appreciated.”
Hazel grinned a little more honestly and nodded. “Don’t worry, I can help. My mum says if I wasn’t a witch I would be a personal shopper.” She said with a small laugh. That much was true, Hazel enjoyed helping people find exactly what they were looking for. She wasn’t sure if the wizarding world had personal shoppers though.

Hazel was sweet, encouraging him to spend time with Louis and thinking that he’d do fine. He was hoping that he would. It wasn’t really the first time that he’d seen Mr and Mrs Weasley, but to spend part of his holidays with them was definitely a lot scarier. He didn’t know what to say, for one. And then he’d have to sit there and hear Louis say that he was more than a friend...well, he just wasn’t sure how that would go by.
There might be awkwardness. And talk about sexual stuff. Which...just...Guh. The thought of talking with his boyfriends parents was scary enough, letting them know that he had done some not so innocent stuff with their far too innocent son was really not something he expected to be comfortable with. Or come out alive. Either was very likely.
”That’s great. I have no idea what to even get for my own mother, let alone Louis’s. I just about know what to get for him, and that took me the better part of our friendship.” Kris flushed a little at that. He had always gotten Louis books, or money, if he couldn’t find anything better. But this time he’d have to impress the entire Weasley family. He wanted to make a good, lasting impression. Something that would make sure he was invited over at their house again.

Hazel knew what it was like to go home with a “friend” for a break only to have to break it to the parents they weren’t just friends. Wanting to comfort him some, and put his mind a little more at ease, Hazel patted his hand lightly. “If it helps any, I’ve been there.” Luckily for Hazel parents and adults seemed to like her. She could be respectful and cheerful, and that seemed to go over well. Kris while not unpleasant in the least, seemed a little on the shy side. “Just be respectful like you always are, it’s the easiest way to get through it.”
“That’s great. I have no idea what to even get for my own mother, let alone Louis’s. I just about know what to get for him, and that took me the better part of our friendship.”
Hazel nodded at the statement. She knew what that felt like. Mother’s could be hard to shop for, and buying for someone else’s mother could be particularly nerve wracking. She settled into a more comfortable position, planning to help him think. She was starting to feel better and at least her nose was no longer leaking.
“Well, does Louis mother collect anything? Or is her home decorated a certain way? An ex of mine’s mother loved me when I first met her because I bought her a vase in the same oriental style her home was decorated in. It shows that you put some thought and care into the gift.” Hazel suggested. She thought for a few moments before making another suggestion.
“Mum’s also tend to like homemade gifts. A few years ago I made my mother a wreath, and she still puts it on the door. Maybe if you can’t think of anything else to do for your own mum, or even Louis mum, I could give you the easy to follow directions on how to make one?” She offered.

It was nice that she gave him tips, though Kris wondered if he would remember anything the moment he came into contact with Bill and Fleur Weasley. He’d probably be very quiet, or make a complete fool out of himself. Maybe fall over. It could happen. And then, after making a complete and total idiot out of himself, he would have to tell them that he was dating their son. Somehow he doubted that it would all turn out well.
Taking a deep breath, Kristian smiled when she offered to teach him how to make a wreath. It would be nice to bring something that he’d made, though he was unsure as to whether or not it would be a good idea to bring something that he quite obviously had no skill for. At least, he didn’t think he had, but to be honest, he had never tried. Maybe he’d end up making the best damn wreath in the world.
”That sounds good. Maybe I could bring them something I made and some stuff that they like.” He would have to ask Louis what their house looked like, though he wanted to try and find something they wouldn’t expect too. Like Hazel had said, it would be good to be respectful and show that he put thought and care into the gift. Especially if he was to explain that he’d been dating their son for the past few months.

Hazel could recall a few disastrous first meetings she had, but she highly doubted those stories would help Kris any, he seemed nervous enough without her adding to it. Most of the time, she showed she would treat their child well, and the parents accepted her. There was of course times that did not happen. There were also times it was made clear to her she was not good enough for the person she was with.
“Sometimes it goes swimmingly, and sometimes it goes sour. Just…keep your chin up, I think it‘ll go fine for you.” She told him trying to be encouraging. Hazel highly doubted that Louis would let his parents threat Kris to very badly. If he decided to take her up on her offer for the wreath she’d be happy to help if he needed it, it really was simple directions, very muggle oriented.
“That sounds good. Maybe I could bring them something I made and some stuff that they like.”
“Can you bake?” Hazel asked curiously. “One of my brother’s girlfriends impressed my mother by bringing her homemade fudge. Food often goes over quite well, cause who doesn’t like food?” She couldn’t bake at all, which was a pity since she’d love to make herself brownies whenever she wanted them. “Maybe ask for Louis’ opinion on what he thinks his mother might like.” Hazel added, though she was sure Kris had already thought of that.

Kristian smiled, getting to his feet and offering a hand to pull up Hazel as well. She was giving him lots of good ideas, though he wasn’t sure how well he’d be at baking. He had never even tried. His father had always told him that baking was something for fags, and even after his death he had barely given it a second thought. Now that she mentioned it though, he was wondering whether or not he could pull it off. Maybe he could pop into the kitchen at school, have a House Elf teach him how to prepare the most delicious cakes.
”How about, after we pop into Hogsmeade, we can see if the elves have anything to help us out with” He had always liked watching his mother cook, finding her so sophisticated when she stirred in all kind of pots and pans. ”Maybe they’ll help us cook something absolutely delicious...I could see if I could help Mrs Weasley in the kitchen when we’re at Shell Cottage...that might impress her.” Though he wasn’t sure whether or not she cooked for herself or simply let an elf do it. Still, it might make them feel as if he was really willing to try.

Hazel made sure to tuck the tissue away before she gave her hand to Kris to let him help her to her feet. The last thing she wanted to do was smack that used gross tissue in his hand by accident. She took a moment to straighten out her clothes and smooth down her hair a little bit. If they were going to go out in public, she would at least like to make it appear like she hadn’t been sobbing her eyes out for the better part of the day.
”How about, after we pop into Hogsmeade, we can see if the elves have anything to help us out with”
“That’s a good idea. I myself am a terrible baker, and you should probably keep me away from the stove.” Hazel said with a grin. “I’m a decent cook, but I can’t bake worth anything. So I’d be learning with you. Classes are often more fun when there’s more than one person in it.” She agreed. Hazel knew that food was often a really good gift to give people.
”Maybe they’ll help us cook something absolutely delicious...I could see if I could help Mrs Weasley in the kitchen when we’re at Shell Cottage...that might impress her.”
“That’s a wonderful idea.” Hazel agreed. “My mum has a recipe she makes for company that is really fantastic, and anyone who offers to help her with it is good in her books.” She explained. She wasn’t sure if the Weasley’s of Shell Cottage did their own cooking or if they had house elves to do that, but she figured that either way, if Kris expressed interest in wanting to help, it would reflect back that he would take care of Louis.
