Darn. She had been thinking about playing match-maker, but if Ash asked her not to then she wouldn't meddle in his affairs. Sometimes she disliked her friends telling her all these lovey-dovey stories about their recent encounters and dates, because Cal had never experienced it for herself. Almost seventeen and the girl hadn't so much as held hands with a boy, well besides her boys but she didn't love them romantically. That was just friendly hand-holding and being a good fag-hag. The thought made Cal smile and almost giggle, she loved being close with so many gay boys in the school. "Promise I won't try to play match-maker.." she said holding up one hand and putting the other over her heart before shaking her head a bit at Ash's comment about ruling himself out, but she smiled anyway.
Jake, and a Ravenclaw... Cal wasn't sure she knew who he was talking about, then it hit her. "Oh!" she bounced just slightly in her seat, "Is he the seventh year with those gorgeous blue eyes?" she asked, thinking that him and Ash were plain A-D-O-R-A-B-L-E together, and she hoped that Jake would come around in time if he was still hiding who he really was. Grinning a little at Ash's gushing about not wanting to make Jake into a rebound guy, and then his comment on kissing, all Cal could reply with was an "Awww..." How could Jake refuse the puppy-dog look from Ash? Especially with those brown eyes.. she knew she couldn't, but puppy looks killed her every time from anybody.

Ashley couldn’t hold back a chuckle when Callie realized just who he was talking about. Why couldn’t he have made that sound with Jake last night? Instead he had to giggle and squeak and act like the complete queer that he was. God. It just wasn’t fair. There should be some law that said people could only act mature and leave a positive impression on the one that they crushed on. But he really couldn’t dwell on that now, not when the other Hufflepuff was looking at him like that. Sometimes he wondered if she lived through them. Through her bunch of boys that she surrounded herself with.
Ash had a theory. It was called all straight boys are idiots. Every day, his theory seemed more credible. How could boys chase after the coldhearted bitches that walked around this school, drooling at the merest glance they got of their so-called love interest. They’d carry their books, make complete morons out of themselves just for a smile. Honestly. It was about time that they grew up and noticed sweet girls like Callie. Okay so maybe she wasn’t the thin stick that seemed to be in fashion right now, but Christ, what would it be like to bed someone who might break during sex? That was probably why he wasn’t straight. The thought of bedding a girl almost made him nauseous.
”He totally is. And he said that he doesn’t know if he’s gay or not...which I suppose is better than ewww, fag, get the hell away from me.” He grinned at her, running fingers through her curls in a tender motion. She was so good for whining to and confiding in. Ash really loved her.

"Of course that's better than saying ew and telling you to go away. I'd have to go find him and beat him up if he said that!" she said defiantly, no body messed with her boys if she could help it. That was something that probably annoyed her friends, but she wouldn't be able to live with herself if one of them got hurt and she just stood by. She never said anything really awful to a guy or girl to deter them from liking her friend, but she generally got her point across that they'd answer to her if they screwed them over.
She smiled back at him, leaning into his hand a bit. "Better stop being adorable, Sparkles or I'll have to squish you again" she teased, laughing softly. Even if she was probably one of the few girls her age to have a boyfriend, she didn't mind totally. One day it would happen, but the wait was the worst part about it. And by then all the skinny girls the boys were running after would have put on a few pounds no doubt or turn out to be total bitches. Serves the guys right to having blinders on all these years when they're young.
Changing the subject back to the confusing Ravenclaw, she looked at Ash and asked, "So after he told you that he wasn't sure, did he get all weirded out when he helped you out of the tub?" She hoped not, since Jake was always so polite to her. He'd helped her study once or twice for a test even, and the boy had manners galore! Pulling out her chair and everything. Cal hoped that Ash would be able to see more of that side as well as help him get through finding himself.

Ash was every bit as protective over his friends as Callie was, so he knew that she meant well when she wanted to help him out. It was why he was so fond of her. She was probably one of the few people he’d actually allow to mother over him and fuss with his hair and everything. When she did it, he didn’t feel like a little kid or a handicapped person at all. He knew that she wasn’t doing anything out of pity. Just like he didn’t pity her for not having a boyfriend. Sure, he felt bad about it sometimes, when he was sharing another of his stories, but he knew that she’d get there someday. And then, hopefully, it’d be the jackpot on the first try.
"So after he told you that he wasn't sure, did he get all weirded out when he helped you out of the tub?"
”No, he was the perfect gentleman. Never said a word about helping me. He seems like he’s just...one of those good guys, you know? I’m just hoping that he isn’t too shy to speak up. I kinda told him I liked him, and I don’t want him to feel...I don’t know. Like he has to help me, or something? Or has to be nice to me?” Ash ran fingers through his hair, shaking his head in frustration. He couldn’t even get his words out properly.
”I just hope that if something I do makes him uncomfortable, he’ll tell me. I don’t want him to think that just because I like him and he doesn’t see me like that...” He shrugged a shoulder, hoping that Callie would understand what he meant. The last thing he wanted was pity because some boy thought he couldn’t handle a rejection.

She grinned, squeeing quietly when Ash said that Jake was a gentleman. She really wanted to run into Jake again and somehow bring Ash up just to see what he'd say about the blond. "I'm glad he didn't freak out about it. Surprised he didn't try to cop a feel either" she winked teasingly at him before laughing softly.
"He might be a little shy to speak about his feelings..some, if not most guys are." she said smiling a little at Ash messing with his hair again, he seemed to be falling for this Jake character by just his actions and inability to get his words out. She doubted Jake felt that way otherwise he probably would have said it already. "If he's treated you normal so far, I doubt he'd just stick around to be nice to you out of feeling sorry for you or something crazy like that" she said softly.
Ash deserved a prince of his own, a guy who'd be there for him no matter what happened. August was good for Ash but with him being well...a bit prudish, it didn't seem like he was good for a long term thing. You can't blame a boy or girl for wanting a little more after a while when they're dating someone, right? That's just what happens and when Ash tried to insinuate that, August ran.

"I'm glad he didn't freak out about it. Surprised he didn't try to cop a feel either"
Ash chuckled softly at that, thoughts wandering back to the hand that had slipped to his ass, too casual to mean something. At least it hadn’t been anywhere more embarrassing or he would have flushed. Instead the both of them had acted like it had never even happened. When he told Callie this, his brown eyes dulled for a moment, but it was gone just as quickly as it had appeared. Maybe the girl thought that he deserved a prince, but his prince didn’t seem to be coming around anytime soon. He didn’t mind being single, but he sometimes wished that he would have someone for his very own. The blonde wasn’t used to being alone. Then again, he could hardly blame them for thinking he was too complicated.
The guys who wanted more than a kiss were reluctant because they figured – quite rightly so – that he wasn’t going to be able to enjoy sex. Then there were those who wanted nothing but kissing, but he had ruined that as well, asking too much, out of a desire to be normal, to be who he used to be. Not that he’d been promiscuous, he’d just been a healthy teenager, enjoying life, enjoying his boyfriend. ”I guess we’ll have to see. He’s been nothing but nice to me so far, but that’s it. He’s just been nice.” Ashley sighed a little, absently playing with his necklace.

This Jake seemed to be really confused about what he wanted..rightfully so like a lot of other "in the closet" boys. Families not being supportive and thoughts of their own accord can make everyone falter with something that seems right but has been beaten into ones head as morally WRONG. Cal had a fleeting thought of a muggle movie she'd seen where two friends promised that if they were both still single at a certain age, they'd marry each other and be happy. She was unable to suppress a giggle with thinking she should bring that idea up to Ash, jokingly of course.
"I hope that he'll come around for you.. because I'd really like to see you both happy.." she murmured, rubbing Ash's arm gently. She wanted to see Ash especially happy, he deserved some good solid happy times for a while after the bad that had happened to him in the past six months. She leaned over to give him another little cuddle, leaning her head against his for a moment.

Ashley cuddled her back, kissing her cheek as she wrapped arms around him from behind. He loved how she didn’t feel hesitant about showing him her affection. Some people were ridiculous, thinking that he would somehow infect them, like his being in a wheelchair was something that could be passed on to someone else. Even if it would be true, he’d never do something like that. There was no way that he’d be able to walk again except by hard Muggle work.
”Me too. And Jake...he’s a really great guy. Like, he’s sweet and smart and he hasn’t had a really easy life, y’know? I just want to make him smile.” He turned a little towards Callie, looking into her warm eyes. She would understand if he told her, and though he knew that the Ravenclaw wasn’t really too open about things, he knew that she’d keep a secret. ”His dad is...well he’s tough. He’s in the army and he wants Jake to join the moment he turns eighteen. And he’s horrible about being gay. Sometimes I feel guilty...like I’m just making things worse.”
He wouldn’t tell his friend that Jake was adopted, since that was something Ash guessed he had barely ever told anyone. The army thing, however serious, was a little less heavy to bring up in a conversation, and he hoped that Jake wouldn’t mind that he was telling someone else. Ashley just needed to talk about this, needed to share the way it made him feel.

Cal gave him a little nuzzle before just setting her chin on his shoulder to listen while he spoke. Aww.. he just wanted to make Jake smile. Ash was sweeter than some of the candies found in Honeydukes and Callie loved that about him. He really deserved some good. ”Guess it’s good he hasn’t had much of an easy life, those people tend to be such bores” she teased slightly since that wasn’t entirely true and she didn’t know too many people who had ‘easy lives’. If they did then they were probably rich snobby children like that Karma girl from Slytherin house. The only bad day she’d have would be if she broke a nail.
”Ohh..” she wrinkled her nose up a little ”Parents really need to stop pushing their kids into things to try and live through them. It gets them nowhere” she murmured, shaking her head and feeling bad for Jake. It sounded like he’d have an even tougher time with his father being thick headed but it also sounded like Ash might just be Jake’s savior, not making things worse. She decided to tell him this.
”I doubt that, Sparkles. You sound like Jake’s savior instead of a burden. Who’s better to help a lost boy find his way than you?” she said smiling warmly at him. She knew he’d been through the hard times with boyfriends before, since he’d told her about his boyfriend back home whom he was set to marry, then he just disappeared. Noah abandoning Ash when he needed him the most was one of the most spineless things Callie had heard of.

Ash leaned his head against Callie’s, closing his eyes for a few seconds. She always made him feel at ease, like there were no thoughts bothering him, at all. He just felt nice and at peace. One devious smile from her and he couldn’t stop himself from smiling. ”I’m just...I don’t know. Afraid to fall in love? I can’t stop thinking about Noah lately. Sometimes I just want to write to him...find out why he ditched me.” From what he remembered, they had been great.
Their relationship, when it had finally started, had been easy and wonderful. There wasn’t a day that went by that they didn’t meet up, sometimes doing homework, other nights just spent together in each others arms. Talking to Noah had always been easy, always made him feel better. He just didn’t understand what had changed. Noah had wanted to marry him...why would his being in a wheelchair change that? Was he really that superficial? Christ, he’d been willing to do anything for him...even if it meant letting Noah sleep with him, despite not feeling anything.
”I guess part of me is just waiting for the moment that Jake does the same thing...that he stops wanting to hang out with me because it’s too complicated. I’d really like to see whether or not this is going anywhere..but then I can’t help wondering if it would be fair...” He hoped that Callie would understand what he meant. She usually did.
