All of a sudden, seducing a nauseous woman seemed like a bad idea. Cassie had been bitten three times in a row and though he hadn’t taken much blood, the effect would be just as dizzying. With a sigh, he took his hands from her legs and with a firm touch, cupped her face. Now would be a useful time for chill hands, as it might sooth her some. Instead, he brushed her cheek with his thumbs, his expression of concern returning. She shouldn’t be sitting up; it was probably making her queasier.
He chuckled at the mention of his attire, or lack of. “This is your fault; you were supposed to be sleeping a little longer.” He cringed inwardly. Had he just admitted he had purposefully kept her sedated, or would that slip by her? He hoped the latter; he didn’t want to explain why he had bitten her more than once. Dacian stroked back some of her curled, tucking them behind her ears. “I’m glad to hear that: I don’t have any money on me. No pockets.” He winked, trying to distract her.
It seemed Cassie was unperturbed by her current condition and that look in her eye made something twinge warmly in his lower abdomen. He tried to keep his smile neutral, though he couldn’t help but meet her eyes with mutual attraction. She was impossible to resist, even when feeble. He shook his head in disbelief. She was impossible. The vampire felt the heat between them spike, and he closed his eyes briefly. Resisting Cassie Vimes was a task that was entirely too hard, and a temptation entirely too easy to give in to.
Her admission of missing him struck a chord, and he glanced away before he could cover his expression. It was a mixture of hurt and guilt. Dacian put on another smile, though it was hardly convincing. “Alright, you’re definitely delirious.” He leaned in and placed a chaste kiss on her brow before releasing his hands. Before she could protest, he slipped her boots from her feet. With firm hands, giving her no other choice, he turned her on the bench and made her lie back. He stood, sitting on the bench by her feet and sliding along so his lap supported her legs. He’d of elevated them some more, but it would have been a little indecent of him while she wore a skirt.
“When the nausea’s passed, I’ll let you sit up again but for now you just lay there. I guarantee you only imagined missing me.” His tone was jovial but he fell quiet afterward, looking at the opposite wall. “I missed you.” It was a mumble, and he glanced sideways to see if she had heard. It wasn't an easy admission to make, and probably not some he would have made had she not said it first.

The loss of his hand from her thigh was not appreciated and Cassie gave a little huff of frustration, wishing her head would stop being so woozy so she could go back enjoying getting close to Dacian. However his steadying touch on her face helped and she definitely wasn’t going to complain about the gentle stroke oh his thumbs over her cheeks. She leaned shamelessly into the touch, practically nuzzling into his hands. Next step; purring.
Luckily for Dacian Cassie had a very limited knowledge about the effects of a vampire bite, apart from the first hand experience that was making her stomach churn of course. ”Sorry,” She mumbled, not sounding remotely apologetic. She could live with ruining his plans if it came with this view. ”But I don’t mind at all.” Perhaps if she stared at the towel for long enough it would slip, a girl could hope right?
Cassie giggled at that, biting her lip to keep from laughing too much. Laughing caused movement and movement caused nausea. She was fairly certain a puddle of vomit would ruin the mood somewhat. ”I’m sure we could find some other way for you to pay me.” She responded playfully, her heart fluttering with delight as she took in the hunger in his eyes. The good kind of hunger, not the scary kind. That she even had to make the distinction was a testament to how messed up the situation really was, but she couldn’t bring herself to care.
Delirious? Cassie gave Dacian a befuddled look, distracted from denying it by the soft kiss he placed on her forehead. Woah, why was the world tipping like that? Before she could register protest at the way her stomach lurched, bile rising in her throat, she was on her back. The bench wasn’t exactly comfortable, but lying down felt infinitely better and so Cassie only managed a small huff. She wanted the warmth of being near him back though, it was a novelty and one she could quickly grow used to, but she’d have to settle for her legs in his lap. Now she was down sitting up again would be far too much effort.
”Let me?” She grumbled even though she had no intention of moving. ”Do you kidnap and manhandle every girl or am I just special?” There was no accusation in her tone, Cassie found that didn’t really mind, apart from the nausea part. Excuses for missing work didn’t get much more legitimate than being kidnapped by a vampire. Lost in her thoughts she almost missed his mumbled response. Maybe she was delirious after all, she was grinning like a loon anyway.

Hmm, legs. Not exactly the most interesting parts of the body but as Dacian had yet to see Cassie’s legs without some sort of trouser, he was inclined to admire them. Well shaped, most definitely long. She could do with a bit more roundness to them, but as with the rest of her, she wasn’t the curviest of women. Nonetheless, he approved, and she did compensate for the lack of curves with some interesting dexterity in those slender limbs. He loosely crossed his arms, resting his right hand on her right ankle and his left hand on her left knee.
The vampire glanced up her body, wondering what had her smiling like that. It seemed she hadn’t heard his little confession, for which he was grateful. Turning this into something involving anything but a verbal representation of physical attraction would make things far too difficult. Hopefully her good mood would persist when she recalled that he hadn’t been particularly civil on their last meeting. Manifesting emotional responses had already proved to be destructive.
“Yes, let you.” He chuckled under his breath, “You’re far too stubborn, you know. Women used to be much more… compliant.” The skin around her ankles was particularly soft and had distracted his thumb as it repeatedly moved over it. His hand at her knee curved around it to possess the upper muscle of her calf. Her legs were really quite nice. It was a pity he hadn’t discovered them before. To try and quell the urge to discover the rest that was hidden by the skirt, he focussed on talking.
“Manhandling women is something I do on a regular basis, yes, though I do believe you’re the only one to be kidnapped recently.” He smiled over at her, relieved that lying down seemed to have lessened the nausea.

Lying down and with Dacian’s hands on her legs, his touch slightly cool but still warmer than she’d grown accustomed to, Cassie could feel herself begin to truly relax, tension easing out of her shoulders. She was content and quite happy to let her eyes slip closed, shifting to get more comfortable on the bench. She’d much rather be snuggled up next to Dacian, using his chest as a pillow, but with her stomach finally settling down she wasn’t about to start making demands that would involve reshuffling.
”Oh really?” Cassie said, opening her eyes to look at him again, her nose wrinkling as she sniffed with mild irritation. ”And you’d be able to stop me if I decided I wanted something else?” She asked defiantly. She was only proving him right by letting her stubborn streak come to the forefront, but while she was willing to be reasonably forgiving about the whole biting thing she wasn’t going to just lie down and let Dacian control her without putting up at least a gesture of protest.
Cassie conveniently ignored the fact that that was exactly what she was doing. Lying down and literally putty in his hands as his fingers smoothed over the skin of her legs. Perhaps because she didn’t have Dacian’s unique (try archaic) perspective she just couldn’t help taking a modern stance. She was going to do what she wanted and Dacian and Ed could bitch and moan about it as much as they wanted. Complaint duly noted.
”I don’t mind so much.” Cassie said, distracted by the way his thumb was rubbing over her ankle, concentrating on suppressing the giggle that was threatening to burst free. Let on and tickling would become a distinct possibility. It was like a strange compulsion, every time she told a person she had tickly feet they suddenly felt the irresistibly urge to test that theory. It was bad enough that Ed knew that particular weakness of hers. ”I must have that, what do muggles call it? Stockholm Syndrome.” Cassie entire knowledge of psychology came from conversations in bars. Expert she was not.

Dacian raised a dubious brow at her attempt at defiance. “Girl, if I couldn’t convince you to do something, I’d make you.” He let a little fang slip into his smile. He was, after all, stronger than at least six mortal men. If Dacian wanted Cassie to do something, the most she could do was protest. In certain situations, he wasn’t above using his strength to prove a point.
As he looked over at her, he found it was a pity that sat like this, he couldn’t do much but keep his hands on her. He might be able to lift and nibble her ankles a bit if he was peckish enough, but really he wanted to take advantage of their being alone to do other things. Primarily pin her down and kiss her into submission. He wondered if that deal still stood, if Cassie was still in control of how close he was allowed to get. He could always test it, but not until her head had cleared a little.
He sighed glancing almost longingly at the rest of her. A week an a half was most definitely too long to be without seeing her, and her new attire didn’t help matters. She was entirely too enticing. Maybe he should just eat her anyway so he didn’t have to resist her any longer. “Stockholm syndrome, eh? I’m flattered. You wouldn’t like the actual Stockholm, its too cold for you.” Psychology was a little too unconventional for the vampire, but sometimes there were only certain materials available when you had nowhere to build your own library to keep you entertained during the day.
He had expected a bit more of a protest from the young woman at being stolen away from work but he wasn’t complaining. If she was enjoying his company, he was content to enjoy hers. If he knew much more of psychology, and believed enough in the soft science to use it, he might diagnose himself with Lima Syndrome. Dacian was glad this meeting was free of that social elephant that might have lurked in any other situation. He should drug women more often if it would mean they would neglect previously cruel conversations. It was as if it had never happened, of which Dacian would be quite happy if it weren’t for the fact that she had still returned to Edward. That he couldn’t ignore. But if she had temporarily forgotten Edward enough, then he was not averse to taking advantage of that.
“How are you feeling?” Too soon for there to be a marked improvement, but he was impatient to see just how forgiving she was. He wouldn’t mind discovering how sincere her offer to remove the rest of her clothes had been either. Cautious of spoiling her mood, he released her ankle and reached to rub his cool fingertips over the fading bite marks.

Cassie pouted, eyeing his smile with particular attention on the sharp pointy teeth that flashed ominously. It was a little harder to maintain blind faith that he wouldn’t hurt her while she was still recovering from the effects of a vampire bite. ”You wouldn’t.” She argued, sounding less certain than she’d been aiming for. Cassie pushed herself up so that she was propped on her elbows, ignoring the simultaneous protest of her head and gut to the sudden move.
The ball was in his court now. If he wanted her to lie down again he’d have to make her. Part of Cassie was hoping that he would and that he’d do it by kissing her. It wouldn’t be so bad that he was being an ass if he’d just kiss her for her troubles. There was little she could do to signal this hope though, she couldn’t reach him to pull him in and so short of literally asking for it she’d just have to settle for recovering mostly obediently. Perhaps if she pushed him enough he’d kiss her. That or bite her again.
The look he gave her made Cassie think perhaps he wasn’t too far off kissing her on his own accord and she was all too happy to return the stare. He was in a towel, it wasn’t like she was going to keep her gaze to herself, even nuns didn’t have that much self restraint. ”You should be flattered. I don’t get attached to everybody that kidnaps me from work and probably gets me fired.” Cassie said with a wink. “The towel helps.”
It seemed even the mention of cold made Cassie shiver and she made a small face of dislike. ”Scotland is too cold for me.” She grumbled, all that bloody snow and to think people chose to live here all year round. ”Luckily I can think of a few ways to keep me warm.” That sly grin was back. That reminded her, she was still curious about how Dacian had managed to make himself warm to the touch.
However there were more pressing matters on Cassie’s mind, like getting him to kiss her already. This whole waiting for her to recover business was all very chivalrous, but she couldn’t stay away from work indefinitely without getting fired for sure and Ed would start to worry if she was late too. Not to mention she wasn’t sure how long this honeymoon period of reunion would last between them. They hadn’t exactly parted on the best of terms last time. ”Better?” She tried hopefully as he asked, wondering if he would call her on the blatant lie.

That twinge of uncertainty in her voice hurt more than any insult she could throw at him. He’d worked hard not to hurt her, but he’d but a fault in the trust and if he didn’t fix it, it would crumble. He took his hand back quickly, rubbing his fingers together to ease the tingling feeling that accompanied touching her skin. The vampire tried not to look guilt ridden, though the kicked-puppy look was a reoccurring Cassie-induced affliction.
He gave her an unimpressed sideways look as she got up on her elbows, brow furrowing. The slight paling of her cheeks suggested she was not feeling well enough to be doing so. Was it her personal mission to drive him absolutely insane? He grumbled his protest, though it appeared she was not taking his minor objection to heart as she continued to be defiant. With a sigh, he began to shift, sliding out from under her legs and gripping the towel before he stood.
“You like it? I’ll be sure to wear it more often.” He deadpanned, raising a speculative brow at her innuendos. He should have been put off by her constant interest, but it seemed that Cassie’s certain ways ducked under his resistance. Somehow she was appealing rather than loutish. His eyes on hers, he prudently readjusted the towel to it was not in danger of slipping and came to stand beside her.
If convincing Cassie to avoid Scores was as easy as wearing a towel, he was inclined to use it to his advantage. With an easy movement, one that was apparently one he had used a lot in the last six centuries, he pushed his hair back from his face. Seeing as Cassie seemed to enjoy the view, he made sure to flex all the muscles in his arm. One of the few perks of vampirism, there was no such thing as an overweight vampire. Everything about Dacian was lean and subtly defined. In life, only Dacian’s height had made him imposing compared to other men but with the upper body strength to wield his weapon of choice, he certainly stood up to today’s standards.
The man knelt beside her, his lips in a tight line. “I’m afraid I have no other choice but to make you comply.” He said sternly. The slight hint of a smile suggested it was not a hardship he was loath to embark on. Taking each of her upper arms in his hands, he put them to her sides and lowered her back onto the bench. To make sure she obeyed this time, he casually slipped his hand under the lapel of her shirt and pressed it firmly over her heart. “Stay.”

Cassie pouted further as Dacian took his hands off her legs. This was all very confusing, he kept touching her and then withdrawing. It was enough to drive a girl mad, how was she supposed indulge if the experience was so fleeting? She didn’t know what he had to look so hurt about either, he wasn’t the one being teased so cruelly. That said the expression was adorable if a little ridiculous on him. Whatever the reason for it, it made her feel guilty anyway.
For a moment Cassie thought she’d really annoyed him by defying him. Especially when he grumbled and slid out from under her legs, keeping an unfortunately tight grip on his towel as he moved. Was he leaving? While she was willing to push her luck by propping herself up onto her elbows she didn’t think she could stand yet, let alone try to follow him. He couldn’t just kidnap her and then leave her all over again! Not least because she still didn’t know where she was. A changing room obviously. But where?
Then they were back to talking about the towel again, safe ground. Cassie grinned as much from relief as enjoyment of the verbal banter. ”You don’t have to.” She replied taking advantage of Dacian standing before her to run her eyes along the length of him. Cassie could think of at least one alternative to the towel that she’d prefer. That needy look in her eyes should be enough to let him know she wasn’t suggesting he get dressed again.
She was quite content to lie back and admire the view, especially when he pushed back his still damp hair like that, setting muscles rippling beneath skin. Cassie felt her breath hitch, her tongue slipping out to lick across her lips, a reaction that was only marginally more dignified than the one she was still contemplating giving: A combination of childishly demanding more and making grabby motions with her hands.
”Make me?” She asked still stuck on watching the flex of his muscles as he moved. Cassie let out the smallest of yelps as he lowered her back onto the bench, when it happened like that she couldn’t bring herself to protest at being manhandled. ”How about some incentive?” She responded, looking up at him. Cassie knew that with Dacian’s hand pressed to her chest that way she could no more sit up than she could stop the way her heart was starting to flutter with anticipation. That didn’t stop her from asking anyway.

Dacian shook his head with the barest of smiles. Bringing Cassie here had been an on the spot decision, and he hadn’t been entirely sure what he wanted to achieve other than getting her away from Silas Rosier. He had been expecting a bigger resistance than this, and had definitely not expected either of them to slip back into that easy attraction that had governed their actions for that first week. So now on the verge of melting back into her seduction, Dacian was mildly confused.
Luckily, his body knew how to respond even if his mind didn’t. As it seemed his hands were taking the initiative, Dacian gave in and let himself respond on instinct. “Incentive, hmm? What did you have in mind?” He knew exactly what he had in mind, but he was going to lead up to it slowly. If Cassie had this power over him, she was going to feel some of this impossible yearning too.
He began by rubbing the thumb of his right hand over her delicate collar bone, keeping his palm over her heart so he could feel every heartbeat as her pulse increased. With his left hand, he tucked back any wayward locks from her face then slipped his hand under her head to cup the back of her skull. Acting like a cool pillow, the fingers on his left hand were delighted to be buried in her hair once again. The man made a quiet sound in the back of his throat, slowly leaning his head down to hers.
Resisting the urge to fall straight into a kiss, he nuzzled the side of her neck, leaving a trail of kisses to the faint marks on the curve of her shoulder. He placed a few delicate kisses there before lapping over it with his tongue. He was deliberately slow, cautious that lingering on her neck might worry her some. He had no intention of biting her now, and he soon moved away, trailing his lips along her collarbone before investigating the little hollow at the bottom on her throat.
It took a fair effort not to move his right hand lower, but at least he had her neck to distract him for now. His left hand in her hair curled a little, anticipating holding her close when his rambling mouth would finally come to hers. Moving up her neck, he lingered around her ear, nibbling carefully at the lobe. The smell of her hair was utterly distracting, and he was glad it seemed she had showered since last seeing Edward. She still smelt of that dreadful strip club, but the overwhelming scent of her was able to drown it out as he inhaled deeply, his exhale a satisfied moan.
Reluctantly he moved away from her hair, kissing every part of her face but her lips. When he’d run out of places, he let his lips hover diagonally over hers. “Was that enough incentive?” He whispered against them, his dark gaze almost black from the sheer dilation of his pupils. The last time he had looked at her like this, he had been baying for her blood. This time, it was not her blood he was interested in. The thrum of her heart under his palm only encouraged his need for the rest of her. He was glad for her lack of clothes, it meant there was less to take off before he could just as thoroughly investigate the rest of her.

The tense knot of misery that had been plaguing her for days had all but melted away. With Dacian kneeling beside her, his hand over her heart and that smile on his lips Cassie found herself surprisingly content. She could get used to this. Part of her realised that she should feel guilty. Her relationship with Ed was barely patched up, let alone healed and she’d put enough strain on it in the last few days by moping about Dacian without the added guilt she’d feel from kissing the vampire again.
It was too hard to think about it, not with the after-effects of vampire saliva coursing through her blood and Dacian so close. He was a drug of a different kind, completely intoxicating and he made Cassie want to forget all about Edward Johns when he was near her. His thumb was brushing over her collar bone and she had to wonder how such a small movement could cause a tingle to spread across her entire body.
”I…” Dacian’s fingers slipped into her hair, the familiar feeling still made the hairs on the back of her neck rise, distracting her from brazenly announcing what she had in mind. Each delicious touch made her heart beat a little faster. He was teasing her, forcing her to wait through the slow build up. Cassie mirrored the sound Dacian had made with a needy one of her own. This was torture! When he leaned in she thought the wait was finally over, but she was wrong. She hadn’t even been waiting for that long and already she was a desperate mess.
”I was thi-” She tried again, this time cut off by an involuntary gasp that slipped out as his lips trailed over her neck. Cassie forgot that she should be frightened or at the very least concerned that there was a vampire with his very sharp fangs less than an inch from her neck. She gave a hum of pleasure instead, losing herself in the momentary brush of his tongue on her skin before he was exploring with his mouth again.
Cassie’s hand found it’s way to the back of his neck, her fingers burying into the soft hair at the nape of his neck as she tried to pull him closer. Everything about her screamed ‘More!’, even if she seemed to have lost the ability to say the words. Dacian peppered her face with kisses, covering every inch of skin, except of course for her lips. That would be too easy. ”Not sure,” She mumbled a little breathless. ”Run that one by me again and I’ll let you know.”
She tried again to pull him down towards her, close that last inch between their lips. There was no hope of overpowering him, he had the strength of a vampire on his side and she was still woozy, but she was banking on him not being that resistant. ”Please,” Cassie begged, there went that last shred of dignity. It would be so easy to lift her head, close the gap for him, but that would be cheating. Despite all her need she didn’t want to ruin the delightful game they were playing.
