Lovely mused loudly in triumph. The feline was stalking around by the edge of the forest - his nude, pink skin a brilliant contrast to the bleak and dark foliage. Unfortunately Cherub had heard the approach of his mistress and froze momentarily; head and eyes swivelling in the direction of the Forbidden Forest. Lovely's eyes widened and shrilly she called out to him, "Don't you dare go in there, mister!" Of course the cat's nature was just as rebellious as his master's and the feline, without so much as a second thought or hesitation, stole into the forest and was lost from sight in the thickets and ferns sprouting from the moist soil. Lovely jogged up to the border of the forest and grimaced as she studied the dim lighting and eerie mists swelling just inches above the terra floor. Cherub was no where in sight and he was definitely and easy target for any type of magical creature to prey on! A shiver ran down her spine at the thought of her only loved family member becoming kitty-chow to some snarly predator; she simply could not let that happen! Though Cherub needed a serious attitude adjustment at times there was no way she was going to leave him to the mercy of some beast! She loved him, she needed him... With a deep breath the slender girl stepped into the forbidden terrain; her wand now gripped in her hand as a precaution. She was sure that she had enough knowledge of spells, charms and hexes to protect herself if anything nasty decided to attack though she prayed it wouldn't have to come with it. Of all the stupid things she had done this was by far the stupidest; wandering into the Forbidden Forest alone to look for her rotten turd of a cat! She jumped when she heard a snap of a twig to her left; the sound not a result of her own foot crunching against the terrain. The dainty belle willed herself to take a calm, cleansing breath and exhaled slowly. Feeling a bit more at ease; or rather in control of her emotions; she tentatively stepped in the direction the sound had come from, her wand raised and ready to cast a spell if she needed to. "Cherub? My boo boo, is that you?" She whispered fiercely; her voice vehement with desperation. A film of perspiration had formed on her forehead; clearly out of stress. Lovely, being terrified of the dark, was not overly fond of the place her cat had chosen to hide in.... OOC: The first post is recycled just because it fit the nature of Cherub. lol. I'm SO original. LOL I just realized that I posted this in the entirely wrong board before so I had to delete it and repost it here![/ul][/blockquote]

He had to admit, domestic cats were good for something other than keeping mice out of hay barns. Of the last three students he'd fed from, two had been lured into the forest by their wayward pets. The arrival of this particular student was heralded my the bobbing light of a wand-tip. The rat-cat that was leading its owner closer and closer disappeared from his view, and as cats had an uncanny way of doing so, appeared at his feet.
Dacian gave a low growl, and the cat responded with a full-throated hiss. The vampire tried to shoo the cat, but typically it just leered and hissed again. The hairless feline was an ugly runt, but at least it had brought him dinner. Peering through the undergrowth, he spotted the girl searching for the cat, whispering encouragement. Dacian glanced at the cat. She should know better: cats had their own agenda, there was no loyalty between a cat and their chosen victim. You didn't own a cat, it owned you.
He shifted his feet, but the cat had decided to cause him some trouble and he had to adjust quickly not to stand on the thing. The last thing he needed was the cat to yowl and betray his position. His foot came down on a dry twig, the sound splitting the relative silence like a gunshot to his ears. He winced and stayed deathly still. The girl had some wits about her, she'd noticed the noise and was looking in his direction - fairly accurate he noted. He waited. Hopefully she would dismiss the crack and carry on her search. It wasn't as if he couldn't just waltz right up to her and take a bite, but he liked to keep in practice when it came to hunting. The less the victim saw of you, the better. The memory-altering agent in his saliva only worked so far. If the impression was too strong, the human might recall later what had happened, and then all hell broke loose. That hadn't happened in at least seventy years, it was unlikely to happen again soon but still, practice made perfect and practise maintained perfection.

OVELY KNIGHT The rustling grew louder and a surly hiss had confirmed her earlier suspicions of the culprit of the cracking branch being Cherub. That pesky feline had almost given her a heart attack! Why was it her cat had taken to running into the Forbidden Forest of all places he could have run off to? Words couldn't begin to fathom her hatred for all things dim and dreary; bring on the bright sunlight and forget darkness. Those who chose to dwell in the shadows were freaks! With a disgruntled sigh the girl pulled away at the brush but was shocked instead of finding her cat to find a man. Well this was just peachy... a man that had obviously been spying on her. Could you say deranged creepy stalker? The cotton candy haired girl's brows furrowed slightly as she gazed at him inquiringly; though curious there was a gut wrenching feeling that told her to back away from him. He looked dangerous; there was something hungry about his gaze that had her unnerved but the girl brilliantly kept her composure. "Why are you in the forest? Are you part of Hogwarts staff?" The girl asked him, her voice strong and rather demanding despite the shakiness she felt on the inside. She'd like nothing more than to quiver... but pride denied him of that. Cherub. He'd hissed from that general direction and it had obviously been at this stranger. Where was her cat and why didn't he like him? Especially when the feline was generally so affectionate to everyone; acting starved of affection half the time you'd of sworn that Lovely neglected him! Instinctively the girl had slowly allowed her hand to slip into the pocket of her coat; gripping her wand. She'd be ready if the stranger decided to suddenly lunge at her or cast a spell of his own... Lovely Knight would be ready for anything... X O X O [/ul][/blockquote]

That was the problem with confidant women, they tended to cause trouble. Dacian was quiet enamoured by their recent ploy for equal rights over men. It was a valiant attempt, though the fad wouldn't last long. This young lady seemed to be more trouble than she was worth, but he could never resist a tempest.
The fact he had given himself away smarted, but he could blame the damned rat-cat for that. As mortal being went, cats seemed to have the most power over supernatural creatures. It was if they had some uncanny sixth sense about these things. So standing up straight, evening out imaginary kinks in his coat, Dacian gave the girl a disparaging look down his nose. The lies began to generate in his mind; his capacity for shielding and warping the truth would be the envy of any cognitive dissonant.
"Yes, I'm here on the authority of the school, conducting risk assessment on this creature-ridden forest so close to a school." He performed it in a nasal tone, sounding far more like a risk-assessment field operative might, a boring and irritating fellow, "I have a right mind to order it turned into kindling. Its a liability. Do you have any idea what sort of ravenous creatures are out here!? I bet you didn't even give it a second thought when you came waltzing in here, ready to brag to your friends about how cool you are." He gestured toward the edge of the forest where she had entered. "Turn right around young lady, we're going to have a talk with your headmaster about this forest-rambling business."
Sometimes it was far too entertaining to dupe the lesser races. He ran a hand over his forehead, acting a fumble as he grasped from his hat which he at seemingly forgot about before his nervous gesture had pushed it from his brow. Hopefully the ruse would work; she would see him as a bumbling idiot wearing clothes that were against his nature to look mysterious and imposing, when in fact he was nothing more than a controlling imbecile with an ego bigger than he could handle. The idea was to be believable, so she would turn her back. As soon as that was done, she was his for the taking.

Knight in shining armour was a stretch. A huge stretch. Tenebrus was really more of a hideous, dim-witted sidekick that had somehow ended up a player in events he couldn’t even comprehend. Still, it couldn’t be denied his arrival was extremely well timed, considering Dacian’s future plans for Lovely. Taking a girl out to dinner was all well and good, but you had to draw a line at what was probably a seven hundred year age gap and the matter of who rather than what was the main course.
Enter the Deux Ex Machina!
Tenebrus was initially attracted by the sound of a student (omgfood), but the hissing and extra voices only ensured he made finding the source his first priority. Chaos for some reason always drew Tenebrus near, and right on cue when Dacian was busy emphasising the word “creatures” the thestral loomed up silently behind him like a ghost, head cocked to the side and staring at the vampires back with a look of curiosity.
Heeeey, he was that freezing cold man that wandered around the forest occasionally and smelled like human blood that one time. Dacian had found the herd once, and Tenebrus had grudgingly tolerated him because he technically wasn’t hurting anyone. Tene however, had never been fond of him. He didn’t have a normal human smell, he was cold like a dead cow, and it was hard to explain, but there was no real warmth, or kindness, or whatever you call it, in his movements. Call it an animal instinct if you will, but the thestral was suspicious, and he could feel a sense of dread growing.
Something was totally not right here.

OVELY KNIGHT Brag? She would brag about gallavanting in the Forbidden Forest? That was a laugh! Lovely Knight hated coming into the forest, probably more than anyone because of her irrational fear of the dark. If you scanned the area around you'd see that everywhere you look there's shadows - creeping and ensaring your imagination into believing they're anything else then what they really are. "I'm quite aware what lurks in here but I'm not here for bragging rights; as much as you'd like to think so. My cat ran off and I came to find him before something else did..." A hand raked through her pink hair as she momentarily took the time to peer into the brush from which the odd man had come from. She thought she'd heard a feline snarl coming from there... She was completely floored, aghast when she saw the skeletal horse stand behind Dacian, his expression curious (that much was certain even though he was a horse). A thestral? Lovely looked away quickly as the thought of how one could see such a creature entered her mind. Yes. Lovely had witnessed human death; a tragic accident at Christmas when she'd returned home for the holidays during her fifth year. Her nanny was carrying a bundle of presents up from the cellar; Lovely really should have helped her but hadn't because of her fear of the dark and that particular cellar; and the elderly woman had tripped and fell backwards down the stairs. Lovely Knight had never spent another Christmas at home again after that; instead leaving Serenity to be with their mom and dad all on her own. She knew she wasn't missed; she was more of a nuisance than anything to them. A stitch in their happy family charade. "Not without my cat..." There was something unsetting about this guy; he was a total creep show and looked at her like she was... something to eat rather than a person. Her heart was pounding a mile a minute; so fiercely she'd be surprised if she was the only one who could hear it. "Haven't seen him, have you?" She was of course, referring to her feline companion. On cue the pink, naked cat came leaping out of the bushes; hissing and spitting at Dacian with a tenacity that Lovely had never seen before. Usually Cherub was too lazy to be so ferocious but animals were intuitive... and if both a thestral and her cat had shown up upon the scene; this man definitely couldn't be trusted. "Who did you say you were again?" She interrogated, a harsh edge in her voice. X O X O [/ul][/blockquote]

Mistakes. A phenomenon Dacian was not familiar with these days. But he made one now. More than one.
The girl had been rabbiting on, but the vampire was tired of playing a role. Sometimes the monster instinct was too irresistible. His jaw ached for soft flesh to sink teeth into. His fingers curled, wanting to grab and restrain. Even his legs tensed, ready for the lunge. The rat-cat leaped out, hissing a spitting. The vampire ignored it, ignored all of the girl's drivel and sprung.
There was something to be said about magical creatures. Dacian was not naive, he'd seen his fair share of strange beings over the centuries, but he'd always under estimated them, classing them as just another animal. In the case of thestrals, yes they were improbable in a mortals word, but how exactly could they differ from a normal horse, aside from the giant wings and their penchant for meat? Dacian could discern none other than those obvious. He had petted them and fed one on occasion. The mares were finicky, the stallions unpredictable, but they were just horses. They couldn't sneak up on a vampire undetected, and they certainly wouldn't care if he made a meal out of a student.

||OoC|| Tigglety, lemmie know if I gotta change somethin’ || Heeeey, that wasn’t nice. Tenebrus wasn’t an idiot, he knew an attack when he saw one but the suddenness of it left him rather alarmed. Clearly the girl had come into the forest to offer him the giant, hairless rat as a meal and now this jerk was screwing things up!
With an indignant screech Tenebrus managed to prove without a doubt just how fast the reflexes of a predator with the body of a prey animal could be. His head darted forwards like a snake striking, his jaws closed like trap around the back of Dacian’s collar and suddenly started dragging him backwards and away from Lovely without warning.
After pulling him along the ground a few steps back Tenebrus went for the only thing he knew was going to keep the vampire away from his precious snack of hairless kitty for as long as he could. Hoping to death Dacian didn’t take the slight pause to try and gouge out his eyes or something, the thestral bit down harder to make sure his grip didn’t slip then attempted to take off running, dragging Dacian along next to him.
One beat of the wings didn’t let him take off, two, still nothing. Even though it was nearly impossible to see infront of him due to having to twist his head to keep a hold of the vampire and run at the same time without trampling him Tenebrus knew he didn’t have much room to either take to the air or smash into a tree. In desperation he jumped and beat his wings again, managing to take off for a moment only for the sudden, unexpected amount of weight he was carrying in front to nearly bring him back down.
It was hard. Dacian was heavy, very heavy, and although Tenebrus had carried a man’s weight in the air before it had been square on his back so as not to unbalance him. This guy was right in front tipping all of Tenebrus’s weight forward quite seriously. The takeoff was messy and rather than go right up to above the trees as he was hoping Dacian’s bulk did not allow him to pull up quickly. Try as he might to avoid flying right into some thick branches Tenebrus was getting fairly battered on the way up, and he figured Dacian was getting a similar treatment.
Finally he managed to break through the canopy. The thestral was beating his wings three times as fast as normal just to be able to stay up in the air and stabilise himself. It didn’t help the man was thrashing like a salmon and Tenebrus quickly got the hint if he didn’t let him go soon they were both going to crash very uncomfortably.
